Samsung Galaxy S21 packaging leak confirms what we’ve all feared

0

What’s in the box? If the latest Samsung Galaxy S21 leak is to be believed, the new smartphone lineup will include a Quick Start Guide, USB Type-C data cable and a SIM ejection pin. We’re assuming the phone will be bundled in there as well, but there’s no mention of a wall charger.

This isn’t the first time that a leak has suggested that Samsung will be removing the wall charger for the box for its Galaxy S21 series and it’s certainly not the first manufacturer to do so. Apple caused quite a stir when it announced that its iPhone 12 lineup would not be bundled with a charger and Xiaomi followed in its footsteps in late December by excluding the charger from its retail packaging for the Xiaomi Mi 11.

Companies are spinning the exclusion of the wall charger as a way to help the environment. The general premise is that by not including a charger, fewer of them will end up in landfills across the globe. This move also allows for the packaging of new smartphones to be significantly smaller, reducing their overall footprint by up to 50%, allowing more boxes to be crammed into a single shipping container as they may their way across the oceans. As you can see in the leaked images, the Galaxy S21 box is quite a bit smaller than what we’re typically used to.

The silver lining here is that quite a few Galaxy S21 rumors have indicated that the prices for the upcoming smartphones will be $100 to $150 less than what Samsung charged last year for its Galaxy S20 devices. Unlike Apple, if Samsung does decide to exclude the wall charger from it 2021 flagship smartphones, it will at least be passing on some of the cost savings to consumers.
