VoLTE-Enabled Handset from HTC Coming to MetroPCS

6

Just as we caught word that the LG Revolution would be Verizon’s first 4G device to feature Voice over LTE calling, news comes that MetroPCS wants to join the party, too. And who will be bringing the functionality to the smaller-scale US network? HTC. Neither the manufacturer or carrier had anything to say on the matter, as it was the GSM Association technology director who blabbed off about it.

Engadget points out a pressing reason why Metro needs to move to VoLTE as quick as possible: their 4G LTE and 3G CDMA are operating over the same AWS bandwidth, meaning if they want to keep their network from choking out they need to divert strain in one way or another. Are we looking at a rebranded phone in the same vein as the Inspire 4G and Thunderbolt? Or something totally new?

  1. I love HTC =)

  2. They should not be calling them Cell phones anymore. There actually hand help computers that have cell phone access.
What i own and use is a LG VX5600. That is a cell phone, not a computer like Apple Iphone 4.

  3. If the iP4 was a computer, it would be a horrible one lol. No flash, crap browser, crap UI. After using an iPad on a couple of occasions, I can honestly say that it was one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever had.

  4. lol

  5. Metro is really starting to play with the big boys. However, I wonder if they’ll be able to keep their prices under $50/mo with all they’re doing to stay competitive.

  6. If Metro PCS had good phones instead of crappy ones than I may join there squad. They do have the best plans for the money. Unlimited everything. I am currently with Sprint and love there plans. Sprint has better plans than At&t and Verizon but they are lacking the phones right now. Being with Sprint over 10 years any right now I am undecided with a phone company.
