The Meizu M9 is perhaps second to only the Notion Ink Adam as the piece of Android equipment we thought we may never see, but seeing as the Adam just went up for pre-order that should bump the M9 right up to the top spot. Not to be outdone, Meizu has just launched the website for the M9, providing us with a full look at the phone that gets CEO Jack Wong so excited.

Just as Meizu said, the phone rocks a 3.5-inch 960×640 display, a 1GHz S5PC110 processor (like the Samsung Galaxy S), and Android 2.2. Also present is Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, microSDHC support, and A-GPS all powered by a removable 1370mAH lithium-polymer battery. The M9 also features support for GSM, EDGE, GPRS, WCDMA, HSDPA, and HSUPA frequencies. How’s that for taking it to the house?

The phone is reportedly launching December 25th in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, and the rest of China in the following days. But just like we won’t bank on the Notion Ink Adam until we see units shipped, the same applies here for the Meizu M9.

  1. I guess it will not support the 850 and 1900 MHz UMTS frequency bands?

  2. Im getting horny o.o

  3. That is an iPhone clone if I’ve ever seen one…. And nothing really groundbreaking there (except the display), just a high end phone. But better specs than the Nexus S at least…

  4. I wish I could design phones… I really dislike how too many people are making them look like that other phone.

  5. the resolution will probably mess up most Android apps, no apps supports such a resolution

  6. Same exact screen specs as iPhone 4. That’s noteworthy. It’s nice to see an android device have the wider format (1.5 height/width, as opposed to the 1.8 ratio of Droid 1 for example).

The tall narrow displays make it hard to type on in portrait mode because the keys are all squashed together. Don’t be fooled by the “smaller” display size of 3.5″. I calculated that the iPhone 4 screen is 1.94 inches wide, while the Droid is 1.8″.

  7. 1. is 4 band GSM support
    2. the resolution not affected Android apps, the m9 will auto adjust resolution for apps accordingly

  8. @Dario, that’s just gross ;P

  9. How does this have better specs than the Nexus S??

    3.5in 960 x 640 vs a 4in SAMOLED 800 x 480 = SAMOLED

    both rock the Hummingbirds.

    both rock bluetooth 2.1

It has a MicroSD slot that may be where it betters?

    1370mAh vs 1500mAh = Obvious Nexus S win with 1500mAh

and Android 2.2 instead of 2.3 android.

Only place it beat the Nexus S is with the MoicroSD slot and a higher resolution screen bt that screen won’t match the beauty or angles of SAMOLED.

In short quit hating on Samsung and Nexus S.

Also what the hell makes this device look like an iphone? round edges??

  10. That’s what Galaxy S should’ve looked like. I want one right now.

  11. @2FR35H who said it’s better than Nexus S? Although i’d choose this over nexus s any day. Nexus s is so damn ugly.

  12. @Maj: That’s not true at all. The framework is made so that it supports any resolution.

  13. P.S. You are missing that it will sport a 5MP camera with 720p recording. Source: http://www.meizu.com/products/m9spec.html (500万 = 500 * 10000)

  14. Meizu has launched some nice little devices in the past and I have been looking forward to seeing this phone become a reality for a few years now. I really hope it finally comes out.

FYI: Give credit where it is due, all these phones look like a candy bar, which was invented in 1847 by Joseph Fry.

  15. hooray for joseph fry

  16. @buckets-o-bots

joedon3 did. I like the look of the Nexus S. Plus you just can’t beat the beauty of SAMOLED.

  17. How much available app storage memory? Seriously, with the hardware all getting similar, that’s the most important question that should be asked. It will be a great day when that’s no longer the case, but too many android phones out there with undersized app capacity, especially now that games have gone crazy in the market (’bout time!).

  18. if the CPU is clocked at 1 GHz then it is better than the iPhone.

  19. the iphone 4 has a 768mhz proccesser

  20. The only thing that impresses me about the iPhone 4 is it’s display…if the M9 comes to the states (not bloody likely but one can dream), I may have found a replacement for my Droid.

Anyone who’s tested a retina display knows how nice and crisp it is.

…and perhaps with the i4 and M9 sporting high-res screens, other companies will follow suit.

  21. PLease be more specific about which UMTS frequencies. Here in the US we keep getting new, non-standard freqs. and it just reduces the chances of us getting all the new products.
Yes, we do believe in standards, in fact every citizen should have one!

  22. I have personally spoken to Rohan (last night) the more you talk shit about NI the more you are going to look like an idiot on the 18th. Your making a big ruining someones credibility when you know very little about what’s going on.

  23. and the 1 most important point that all you guys miss is … it will be sold for 2500RMB ONLY … u do the math … a top end smartphone specs for half the price …

  24. I’m a bit late, but perhaps someone will still read this. Apparently there will be no 3G in the US.

@joedon3: I guess you haven’t seen all those iPhone clones that seem to be all over Asia. Like the iPhone (including interface), just made from cheaper materials, using crappy software without app support, etc. The M9 reminds me more of Samsung phones.
