Sprint’s Google Voice Integration is LIVE!

Public service announcement to Sprint customers with Google Voice or who want to have Google Voice: Google just announced that Google Voice is now available to all Sprint customers! They announced this months ago and we knew it was imminent but now it should be accessible to everyone.

You’ve got two options in terms of setup:

Option 1: Keep your Sprint number: Your Sprint number becomes your Google Voice number so that when people call your Sprint mobile number, it rings all the phones you want.

Option 2: Replace your Sprint number with your Google Voice number: All calls made and texts sent from your Sprint phone will display your Google Voice number.

Head over to Google.com/voice/sprint if you want to read up before you make any erroneous mistakes that might lead to you accidentally losing your girlfriends sacred 443-TIFFANY vanity number for good.

  1. So my big question is will Sprint numbers that are converted to Google Voice support MMS? Obviously they won’t through Google voice, but will they still come be able to come to the phone through Sprint?

    1. Yes, MMS goes through the messaging app while SMS and Voicemail go through GV.

  2. honestly, I don’t see the utility of this being “more convenient”. I use a second google voice number to take care of all my other business and my sprint number as my primary line -> the GV goes to my Sprint phone, but no one else knows what my real number is. I don’t want the two crossing streams too frequently. I certainly don’t want my GV number going out to my friends or my Sprint number going out to my random people. I suppose I need to think about how this helps a bit harder. I like the GV options for custom messages, blah, blah. Then again, I’d like to be able to delete Sprint Voicemail then from my phone……

  3. Has anyone been able to successfully make this happen? I’ve been reading several posts about people getting the “Unfortunately this phone blah blah blah” and not being able to integrate the number. Several people have pointed to having a discount on your account as the culprit or a Corporate account or a delinquent bill. I fall in none of those categories but still get the error. Anyone else out there in the same boat?.

    1. I had mine activated for a couple weeks now, works fine. Not sure why certain accounts aren’t being activated. I have employee discounts on my bill as well.

    2. I have been getting an error while trying to activate as well. I think the problem, at least for me, is that this is not available to cooperate accounts. I have a Sprint employee discount (even though I don’t work for Sprint), and I think that labels my account as being cooperate.

    3. When I checked my phone the first time, I got that error. I tried again a few minutes later and it gave me the 2 options.

  4. I’m not sprint customer

  5. Can’t get it enabled. I was on the phone with tech support for quite awhile. He says he has instructions on his end of how to enable it on your account: apply a specific “code”. But he says when he searches for the code to apply it says “code not found”. We ended up deciding it must be a glitch with how new the service is and to try again in a few days. As for MMS, my understanding is that MMS messages will still send, but will come from your sprint number.

  6. It’s ok, I’ll keep my Google number and conditional call forwarding from the Sprint # because it works already…

    :)

  7. If I choose option 2, does that mean I need to update my credit card account to GV number?

  8. Activated it with no problem on my Sprint Touch Pro2 on 4/27. It’s the best, no longer have to call into v-mail, they’re transcribed right there on my Messages screen, really convenient.
