Sprint Announcing New Phone on February 24th; What is It? [Mysteries]

85

Sprint’s doing it again: they’re teasing us with a new phone announcement and haven’t given up anything but a date. They tweeted this not even an hour ago: “What do you think the next new Sprint phone will be? Find out Thursday! #comebackfeb24.”

So, once again, our interest is piqued. We thought Sprint really had something magical to show at their David Blaine event, but if you guys told the story, you’d wish he would have made that device disappear. Let’s hope it’s something really juicy come Thursday. [Thanks to all who sent this in.]

[Update]: Let’s not get ahead of ourselves: this could very well end up being a device that doesn’t run Android. We’ll be looking out regardless, but continue to make your guesses below.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  3. They also the only U.S. carrier that hasn’t said anything about a Honeycomb tablet. AT&T was rumored to be getting the Xoom.

  4. They specifically said phone though, so I think it rules any tablet announcements out.

  5. EVO II?

  6. well it is about time for an evo2

  7. Yeah I think it will be Evo 2 as well.

  8. Comment got ate, but I doubt it’ll be a new Evo because that would terribly overshadow the Evo Shift 4G. I’d expect an Evo 2 this summer to compete with the iPhone that is historically released at that time. What wouldn’t surprise me is a new WP7 phone that won’t sell. They seem determined to make them work when the market says otherwise.

  9. It’s going to be a Win 7 phone

  10. Better a date without a phone, than a phone without a date. I HOPE TO GOD this is the EVO2! I will be paying my Verizon ETF in pennies!

  11. They know what it better be…. HTC EVO 2 4G which they won’t show off to the world till CTIA IN MARCH.. They need this BADLY… But for a secondary device I would possibly roll with that SAMSUNG GALAXY S2… That’s looking great actually never thought I would say that about Sammy… But this device is much more than just about specs.. check out the Samsung unpacked videos #2 through 4 they are 15mins long each but you learn how much they put into the Galaxy S2 pretty impressive..

  12. the original Evo was announced late March, so it’s possible this could be it. i’m thinking it will get announced at CTIA though, which happens late March…

  13. I’m gonna say a Sanyo triple screened indestructible android device running gingerbread….in the library

  14. Jdog you dumbass. It said phones not fricken tabs….

  15. Epic 2?

  16. It’s probably a Windows Phone 7.

  17. Anything that the Netflix app will be on is quite fine by me. HTC makes awesome phones/products but I’d like to see a little variety. Either way, I’m still curious what’s up their sleeves this time.

  18. When I was on the phones a couple of weeks ago renewing a contract, and the lady I spoke with was telling me of a Blackberry 4g phone to be released soon. Bluck… No thank you.

  19. Well, I’m up for a new phone on the premier plan on March 1. Then they take it away on April 1 by establishing tiered Sprint Premier, where I won’t be eligible for phone upgrade for another year. So whatever it is, it better release in March, cause Sprint is seriously lacking on the exciting new phone front. Grrrrrr

  20. My second cousins, brothers sisters friend of a friend said it will be the iPhone coming to Sprint!!!!!

  21. My second cousins, brothers sisters friend of a friend said it will be the iPhone coming to Sprint!!!!!

  22. My guess is a three-screened Android phone introduced by Criss Angel.

  23. After that last abortion of an announcement from Sprint, I am not going to even read much into the speculation. This way maybe I won’t be let down so hard.

  24. EVO II or Epic II. I’m leaning towards Epic only because the Galaxy S II was just announced and I haven’t heard anything about an EVO II yet. Although Sprint did manage to keep their last announcement bottled up tightly so you never know.

  25. Lol if it is a Sprint iPhone, that would be a buzzkill. Watch it not have WiMax connectivity LOL.

  26. On second thought, I do not think that it will be an Android phone. I think it would be either a Sprint iPhone or Spring WP7 phone.

  27. If you got an “Evo” Sprint has just made you a second tier Premier customers unless you had their service 10 years or more. Meaning that in order to get the new phone you’ll have to pay FULL price. If its a dual core Android with a higher resolution screen, i’m gonna be pissed.

  28. Transform Froyo? xDDD

  29. I doubt an EVO 2.

  30. We’re overthinking this. Bank on it that it’s not going to be anything important.

  31. After Sprint created the hype for the really shitty dual screen phone, I don’t care about this phone.

Sprint needs to announce their shitty phones at conferences, such as MWC or CES, but not at their very own events.

  32. It’s not going to be anything exciting. Otherwise they would have hired Chris Angel to announce it.

  33. Echo 2, now with 3 screens.

  34. JITTERBUG PHONE

  35. is the VEER by hp.

  36. Please PLEASE! IPHONE , android sucks i havent tried wp7, but i heard it sucks. I HATE Apple but i must say, they make the best phone ever. Please, Sprint Iphone

  37. Lol jitterbug lol it comes with lifealert app

  38. Actually why would announce the Evo 2 4g now… There saving that for the summer release but ctia will see the evo2… This Thursday who know’s I would like to see Lg optimus 2x that would be kool… Sprint needs a 2011 device to compete with the current best announced devices… 1.Samsung Galaxy S2, 2.Lg optimus 2x, 3.Samsung Infuse 4g, 4.Lg optimus 3d, 5.Motorola Atrix 4g, 6.Htc Thunderbolt, These devices are the current best… We all should be on the look out for the UPCOMING.. Htc Pyramid, Droid X2, These devices WILL compete against the Evo2 this summer… Sprint BETTER MAKE A TRUE STATEMENT SOON cause alot of those announced devices at Ces and Mobile World Congress are making there way to TMOBILE… Not to mention they also have GOOGLE’S FLAGSHIP DEVICE THE NEXUS S… Looks like tmobile might just be a great place to be at this summer ESPICALLY if no EVO2 exist.

  39. Talking with someone at the Sprint store about the lackluster David Blayne event and what Sprint will have this summer leads me to believe it won’t be anything too exciting- most likely a WP7 phone :\\\\

  40. It’s Windows phn 7 or a web OS device. Duh. They already said they were going to offer it (wp7) q2… evo2 would be wicked but realistically they’ll hold off til march for ctia to announce that. Maybe it’ll be some crazyy nice new blackberry toy? Hmmmm..can’t wait though cuz I hate this hero!

  41. EVO 2, I doubt it. Samsung Galaxy S II, It’s supposed to be happening in the states sometime this year but who knows when? Windows Phone 7… Very likely as they are the only carrier without a release on this platform yet. I’ll keep hoping for that beautiful Galaxy S II but I don’t see it happening.

  42. It’s gonna be a crap phone either from RIM or PALM which both suck BIG right now.

Maybe a WP7 device will be a lil’ cooler, especially now that Nokia and MS have partner up, as Nokia was the #1 leading with Symbian, I can see a BIG growth for WP7 market/apps in late 2011/early 2012…..

  43. Please be EVO 2.

  44. Sprint IPhone

  45. They really need an EVO 2 to save them at the moment. Winmo sucks, iPhone(Bleh), Palm and Blackberry are both lame.

  46. Dual screen Android 1.6 Katana III flip phone by Sanyo. 2.5 inch screen when open on a TFT screen with T9 predictive keyboard, and a .5 inch screen when closed. 128mb on board memory no external. Single VGA camera (640×480) resolution. Runs on the Sprint NOW network with blazing fast 2G data connections. This ultra portable clamshell first of it’s kind Android device will blow you (cue fireworks) away!!! Coming 2 quarter 2011!

    Just kidding :-)

  47. The BB Bold Touch!!!

  48. It is a time machine phone- aim the front facing camera at yourself, select the century to go to, and click- off you go…

  49. we know its gonna be some sort of facebook phone

  50. peeple are really stupid..its a clam shell feature phone running 2g..going retro with looks too.

  51. “@sprint If you could design a brand new phone, what would it have? Ours will have a hub for gaming, music, pictures and video.”

This is WP7. Evo 2 or GS2 aren’t brand new

  52. Sprint just posted this to Facebook:”If you could design your own phone, what would it have? A hub for gaming, music, video and pics? Contacts from email to Facebook in one place? A simple way to streamline messages? Sprint’s next phone will have all that and more. Come back 2/24 for details.” Could pretty much be any phone on the market, thanks Sprint….

  53. If you could design a brand new phone, what would it have? Ours will have a hub for gaming, music, pictures and video #comebackfeb24

    Sounding like a win7 phone….

  54. but probably the Windows 7 pro phone

  55. I have sprint and evo and I am def. interested in any announcement android-wise. It just seems like they are acting like idiots with david blaine anouncing crap and then this saying, “Ours will have a hub for gaming, music, pictures and video”. Aren’t most current phones a hub like this??

  56. Its going to be HTC Echo. Remember the add a few weeks back with that crappy Kyocera phone and the ECHO….

  57. i don’t care what it is. at least this time they didn’t give a 2 month build up to disappointment.

  58. HTC 7 Pro

  59. It is the windows phone 7 phone :) so happy to see windows phone 7 spreading around to cdma carriers

  60. WP7 phones are even slower than the blackberry torch, which uses a dinky Marvell cpu. No thanks.

  61. I am thinking either Evo 2 or a new Tablet… It may even be the BB Tablet… That would stink but no I think there is a chance that they will have an Evo 2 I think this because Sprint has had the best Android device for a long time running now and with Verizon launching Thunderbolt which is a phone a little better than the Evo then I think Sprint would want to launch an even better device as they do not want to lose the title as the provider that has best Android device but we shall see…

  62. ps-think it’s going to be phone(since the word “device” was not used) and Play book 4g is out since Sprint website already has “officially” announced it. I hope it is a Nvidia tegra-based phone but that seems too big of an announcement. If they mentioned “facebook contacts” it might be Facebook phone. Probably the HTC one with small screen. LOL

    http://www.dynamicbusiness.com.au/news/htc-facebook-phones-android-phones-for-social-media-2222011.html

  63. if there a evo 2 dual core im deff getting that shit!!!

  64. WP7 has hubs… It’s without a doubt a WP7 phone.

  65. Samsung Galaxy S2?

    This:

”If you could design your own phone, what would it have? A hub for gaming, music, video and pics? Contacts from email to Facebook in one place? A simple way to streamline messages? Sprint’s next phone will have all that and more. Come back 2/24 for details.”

    Brings this to mind:

“We’re still not huge fans of the TouchWiz interface, but here it is updated to version 4.0 and rests upon Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It brings in more customization options and the introduction of four separate “hubs” taking the place of Samsung Media Hub. Books, music, games, and social are all featured”

  66. Yeah, I was thinking of the whole media hub thing too. If you search media hub @Sprint, it’s all about the Samsung Hub. Hey, this would be an improvements as far as “Android” announcements go. Finally, a sprint dual core.

  67. more than likely a new Samsung android phone. bet on it >__<

  68. I say its a basic phone. For basic phone calls and basic phone texts!:D

  69. Kyocera Echo

  70. Haha… gonna get some big magician make the Thunderbolt appear for Sprint and the Echo disappear to Verizon…lol

  71. It’s going to be the blackberry Playbook people! Guarantee it! :D

  72. Most likely Windows Phone 7. The six hubs featured in WP7 are: People, Pictures, Games, Music + Video, Marketplace, and Office.

    http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2010/feb10/02-15mwc10pr.mspx

  73. jojo ah that’s right…the Samsung Media Hub. We’ll see.

  74. I think that WP7 is the only o/s that is seriously pushing the gaming aspect. sigh…Guess you have to save the best for last.

  75. People are so freaking retarded, it is clearly stating it will be a PHONE!!!! Why are some of you mentioning tablets of any kind just shows how slow some of you can be.

  76. Would love if it was an LG Optimus Black or x2, Galaxy S2, EVO 2 or even iPhone. Windows really?!! Only if it was a cool Motorola Brick WP7. Yeah, way cool!

  77. Am I the only one that’s really hoping it’s NOT a Window’s Phone? I mean you guys are pushing the whole “gaming aspect” of it but when it all boils down, the OS absolutely sucks, and while it’s growing, is no match for Android right now.

  78. Am I the only one that’s really hoping it’s NOT a Window’s Phone? I mean you guys are pushing the whole “gaming aspect” of it but when it all boils down, the OS absolutely sucks, and while it’s growing, is no match for Android right now.

  79. I hope for iphone or Pre3

  80. Was being sarcastic about Windows. lol

  81. its the 25th what was the announcement?

  82. So I am currently a T-Mobile customer with a MyTouch4G and am pissed about throttling after 5 gigs… I want a phone that is faster than the EVO if I sign a contract with Sprint but with no Tegra 2 or Tegra 2-3D handsets announced I am frustrated and am twiddling my thumbs until the summer lineup is here. I have some hope after seeing the wiki page for the tegra processor but I dont know which phones will come to Sprint. Maybe the carriers are waiting for “Icecream” or “Gingerbread” final development… I hate waiting… and paying T-Mobile for limited Unlimited Data!!
