Samsung leads smartphone sales in Q1 2016

0

Samsung is one of the most popular smartphones in the world, and the latest report from IC Insights backs that claim up, big time. For the first quarter of 2016, Samsung led in smartphone sales by almost 30 million.

Samsung took the top spot with 81.5 million units sold, with Apple in a distant second with “only” 51.6 million sales. As for who else ranked in the top 12, we saw Huawei, Oppo and Xiaomi round out the top 5.

Obviously, Samsung saw a spike in sales due to its release of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, but the bulk of those sales won’t factor into Q1, instead falling in the realm of Q2.

This report comprises sales numbers between January and March of 2016, and gives manufacturers an idea as to what to expect going from year to year.
