Final Fantasy now available from Google Play, relive the adventure ‘that started it all’

22

Whether you are a fan of the Final Fantasy series or just of old school RPG gaming in general, Square Enix is giving you every reason to head to the Google Play Store today. The original Final Fantasy, the 1987 RPG that kicked off the entire franchise, is now available for Android. It isn’t exactly cheap at $6.99, but it sure beats having to hunt down an original copy of the game. The game has been graphically enhanced and outfitted with the necessary touchscreen controls, but otherwise you will battle your way through the same dungeons and encounter classic enemies as part of that epic journey that spawned one of the biggest gaming franchises of all time.

  1. Tempting… I’m a newbie when it comes to the Final Fantasy series. Didn’t get into it until FF7 at which point my life changed forever.

This is so oldschool, I’m not sure if it’s aged well. I like that they updated the graphics but I dunno….. Tempting..

    1. wha, don’t forget the greatness that is FF6, that changed my life forever, and also somehow took my virginity :/

    2. I remember getting my guide from Nintendo for this game. I would stare at the cover every chance I got. Fond memories back then. Try it good sir you never know.

      1. I got that guide free with my Nintendo Power subscription. It was leafing through it’s pages that led me to purchase Final Fantasy and become the RPG junkie I have been since.

    3. dude, go for it, it is an amazing port

  2. So they’re porting the psp and ds remakes of the early Final Fantasies huh. Thats cool though I wish Square Enix would stop with this milking business and start remaking new Final Fantasy games.

    1. i think porting it to android sweet… besides android is the last place to port to other than that there really is nothing else to milk from.

  3. At least it isn’t 15 bucks like the other pos

  4. If you buy it one device can u use it others?

    1. Yes, yes you can as long as your hardware supports it.

    2. As long as they are compatible devices, yeah.

  5. I’d like to see some of the Game Boy FF’s come out (Legend, Legend II, Adventure). I remember FF Adventure being a pretty fun game … kinda Zelda-esque but a good story. I know I played that one through several times at least.

    1. Those are not part of the Final Fantasy Franchise those are part of a different one They just decided to slap the name Final Fantasy on them for the western market.

Its part of the SaGa series and is the beginning of it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SaGa_%28series%29

      1. Well, they’re still good games and I’d love to see them on Android. :P

  6. Looks like the game is Japanese only unless I am missing something there as the text seems to be in japanese and not english which sorta does suck for those people that have never played the original game.

    1. If this is like FF3, then they have both English and Japanese text depending on your locale settings, just change your phone language to English. This is one reason why I’m impressed by Squeenix… Square enix because they bothered to put both languages in.

  7. I haven’t played this before. I believe it may be time.

  8. I’ve actually just been playing this game on my phone with a GBA emulator. I think I may buy this now that it’s available. It should be a nicer experience, and I’d like to show them that Android is worth developing for.

  9. If the GBA tactics would be ported hours of my life would again be gone lol. I have been using emulators but would deff buy real deal
