Amazon Adds 25 Years’ Worth of Discovery Channel Content to Prime Instant Video

Amazon Prime Instant Video users can look forward to another huge addition to Amazon’s content library. They have reached an agreement with Discovery Communications to add 25 years’ worth of content to the service. Prior seasons and espisodes from shows airing on the Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery, Science and Military channels will all be added.

Of course, new content will have to come a bit later after airing (in the case of a seasonal show, most likely after the season has been made available on physical media). It really is a great treasure trove of content if you’re someone like me who enjoys watching documentaries and research shows.

All of the content should already be available for instant streaming so head to Amazon.com or your Amazon Video-capable device (Amazon Kindle Fire) to get started. Read on for full press details.

  2. I don’t think I could be happier. Now I’ll get to see all the shows Discovery had back when it was educational and not all about weddings, and rednecks fishing for shrimp, and guns.

    1. Discovery Channel doesn’t air any wedding or redneck fishing shows.

edit: Other channels owned by the company do, so you may have been referring to those.

  3. This is nothing new for those of us who already have Netflix and HuluPlus. Just another video service with duplicate content so far.

    1. Not true. Amazon funds lots of small independent film projects that they offer as Amazon Instant Video.

  4. Well until they add an iOS or Android app this doesn’t help.

    1. You can watch their content on Android in a web browser, unlike many web video services.
