AccuWeather for Android Updated for Push-Enabled Severe Weather Alerts

5

While some of us living in the old ages are still relying on our weather radios for severe weather updates, AccuWeather is steadily aiming to help modernize severe weather alerts. They’ve upgraded their Android application to add push alerts for severe weather updates. With the recent wave of tornadoes sweeping the country, it would be an understatement to say that this is one highly desirable update.

Above that biggie, there’s now a lifestyle section “to help you make better decisions (tells you which activities are feasible for the day), an option to exit, the ability to upgrade to the premium version of the app using in-app purchases, and some design changes to make it look more like other Android applications. I urge you to grab this update ASAP if AccuWeather is your weather app of choice. [Android Market]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Accuweather is the most dependable weather info for my area. The fancy thing that Chris recommended recently, 1weather or something – is !@#$ in nice wrapping.

    1. Shrug…I use weatherbug. It is true that severe weather warnings are a bit more important than seeing on your phone that it’s currently raining outside.

  2. Weatherbug has had updates, I get alerts all the time to my phone.

  3. Accuweather is the most inaccurate in areas i am in or have traveled to
1weather from one louder has been more accurate to the degree
Then most weather apps i have tried and yes it looks nice to
Just happens to be what I’m using. I have had troubles with accuweather before
Telling me 95 when it was 103. Or 85 when it was 81. Not even a continuous difference
    Just my experience.

  4. Accuweather asks for far too many intrusive permissions. Instead of updating, I uninstalled it.

Why does a weather app need the ability to:
    – Send SMS messages in my name
    – Directly call phone numbers
    – Modify my calendar and send emails
    – Read my calendar
    – Read my sensitive log data
    – Read and write to my USB and SD Card
    ?

Apps that ask for too many permissions are spam. Accuweather is no longer a brand or name that is trustworthy because of this.
