Rumor: Motorola DROID 4 Audio Clips Prove Verizon Likely Had Marketing Campaign Ready to Go for December Launch

7

The DROID 4 was rumored to be in stores right around the same time that the white DROID RAZR and the DROID Xyboard tablets were, but that obviously never happened. We all know that the first 4G LTE slider from Motorola exists but we still have no idea when we’ll be seeing it.

More evidence may suggest Verizon’s marketing campaign was already up and ready to go for a December launch. Aside from past leaks giving us glimpses of the device’s presence on the DROID Does site, we now apparently have audio clips that will be (or were going to be) used to present the device’s specs and features in a DROID-like way.

There are a number of reasons why Verizon could have delayed this device beyond its expected December launch. Software or hardware issues are always expected culprits, though with them having prepared so heavily for the launch already we can’t say we believe that to be the case. Perhaps the December lineup was just far too crowded.

You have four different configurations of the Xyboard tablets, a new white edition of the DROID RAZR and the long-awaited Galaxy Nexus that seems to be doing well. I’d say that’s enough to have alongside other recent devices such as the HTC Rezound.

Not to mention, it’s only been half a year since its predecessor – the DROID 3 – has launched. We’d say they could afford a bit of a delay. Of course, the phone hasn’t even officially been announced so the notion of it ever being “delayed” is a bit sillier than the Galaxy Nexus debacle. In any case, we’ll be patiently awaiting the beast’s arrival on Big Red shelves. Find the clips at the source link ahead. [Droid Life]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Wow… It seems amazing to me that Verizon has enough clout to stop the worldwide release of this phone.  I can understand them controlling the US release date but it shows how hosed the US cellphone system is when one US carrier can hold both a major manufacturer and the world’s consumers hostage.

  2. Just speculation, but I can imagine Google and Verizon duking it out behind the scenes about the release dates of the droid 4 and the nexus. For a while there it looked like the droid 4 would come first. To me, Verizon didn’t handle it all too well…but kinda upset with them anyhow with the google wallet stonewall on the nexus and the locked boot-loaders on the razr, etc.

  3. Yeah , yeah , will believe it when I see it .
Got a new battery for my OG Droid 1 and it is working great , so no hurry .
The GNex to me was a waste , 5mp camera , come on .
The Razor , meh , nice but not my style .
Rezound , a possible , but as the rest to expensive .

    1. MP Does not = Quality of camera, if anything a smaller MP size means a better camera. Well unless your blowing up your pictures to poster size. Tired of people hating on the Gnex camera because of the MP size when it has nothing to do with the quality of the pictures it takes..

      1. I’m a photographer and sorry your very wrong, and the Gnex was junk I sent mine back also, I’ll wait for the D4

  4. I’m really looking forward to the D4 replacing my D2G.  :)

  5. Motorola should go back to the drawing board with Droid 4 and put in a replaceable battery
