Netflix for Android Gets Updated to Add DROID X (Gingerbread Only) Support

Our inbox is chock full of excited little DROID X owners who, upon checking the Android market, were surprised to see that Netflix is now officially available for their devices. The caveat is that you must be on Android 2.3, but that shouldn’t be much of a problem these days, should it? Go on, catch it if you can in the Android market. Fuck Netflix. Just release it for all phones you assholes!

Amen! I pay a monthly charge and i should be able to get it on everything!

      • TalkingMoose

Waves the Netflix fairy wand impressively.

        Did that work?

Mmmm.  I guess getting it to function on all platforms will require actual work, which takes time.

        • HalfwayCrook

Except it works on almost all android phones. For example,  I have a mytouch 4g, which isnt a “supported device”, yet if I download the apk and change the prop on my phone to that of an htc thunderbolt which is a “suppoted device”, Netflix works flawlessly…… I partially blame verizon.

          • TalkingMoose

There’s “works” and there’s works.  It may look ok to you, but you’re not the one taking the angry emails when it’s doing nasty unexpected things.  Pros don’t just hack and ship; they test, sometimes exhaustively.  Netflix appears to be trying to certify that it works on a per-device basis.  Patience is a good trait to have.

I know what you are trying to say… but that is kinda like saying I bought  this horse and I want to ride it everywhere. but you cant use it inside most buildings.

Or owning a phone on Verizon and expecting it to work where there is GSM coverage and not CDMA coverage.
I agree it should work and I don’t know why it doesn’t. but just because you pay for a service doesn’t mean they are required to support every device there is.

          Thank you Netflix PR ;)

        EXACTLY Angel!

Were you stamping your feet and having a tantrum when you wrote that? Someone needs to grow up and have patience.

  • Chrisrj8084

Is it working for Evo yet?

    • sjava

Nope. I’ll cancel Netflix at the end of the month if I still does not support Evo.

      • Droid2Life

You can’t watch Netflix at home?!

  • Brutalsnowman

App and Video streaming works on
Phone: Droid XROM: ApeX 1.4.1 Android Version: 2.2.1System Version: 2.3.340

  • SirSpammenot

It is in the market for me, which is new! (Captivate, CM7 = v2.3.4). but it balks when contacting their server to actually stream a movie. It says “couldn’t connect to the server”.  See how easy it is not to whinge about it?

Besides they really need it to drive tablets, so Honeycomb first please. :)

  • Christian Bennett

Loll. Had netflix since the first app came out and device check was disabled. Nice to hear that its official now…

  • wchudson

I’ve been using the Netflix app on my Droid X since they removed the device check, before the gingerbread update. I had pretty well assumed all of us DXers were already on the Netflix band wagon, but happy days for those who weren’t! I must say, it’s been nice watching episodes of “Better Off Ted” on the go.

  • Poopcrew

Didnt show up in my market (evo) im still using the one i had backed up with TB. Yea netflix has been really shady with androd.

  • InspectorGadget80

YET STILL NO GINGER BREAD FOR MY ATRIX AND NO NETFLIX. Motorola is really ticking me off right now. all their older devices gets Ginger Bread except my Atrix 4G and the newer ones also gets Ginger Bread. YOU’RE A RIP OFF MOTOROLA. This will be my last phone If i DON’T RECEIVE GINGER BREAD WITH NETFLIX ON IT or I’ll never buy your phones again

  • socalrailroader

I’m STLL waiting on it to work on my Samsung Droid Captivate, HTC Inspire 4G and Asus Transformer, I love Netflix but this device by device thing is getting RIDICULOUS!

i have android 2.2.1 on my droid x and its rooted but somehow netflix shows up on my market and it install, but i don’t how that is possible if it requires android 2.3???

  • Dterrazas

I am really waiting for it to work on my Xoom tablet. I have both an iPad 1 and a Xoom and they both are two pieces of impressive technology. I find them to be equal in functionality as well as flaws. But the marketing people behind the android products need to learn something from Apple. Don’t Launch Until It’s Ready. I still prefer my Xoom over Apple iPad because of the Flash support and the fact that I don’t have to deal with Apple ID and the intrusive app store plus being connected to I tune for just about everything.

I do however watch Netflix on my iPad daily and I wish it would work on my xoom instead of just my droidx. Watching a movie on a little screen like a phone just does not cut it when I have a tablet.

It doesn’t work on my phone….of course…Droid X with Ginger

  • JRomeo

When will Android 3.1 tablets be able to use this?
