Sprint Goes Live With 4G in Orlando

16

Sprint’s moving a bit slower on 4G launches than they were just a few weeks ago, but they’re moving nevertheless. Today sees Orlando, Florida – home of Universal’s flashy paradise and Walt Disney’s own kingdom – helping themselves to a nice serving of hearty 4G. If you have an Epic 4G or an EVO 4G and live in Orlando, then be sure to turn that 4G radio on and take it for a spin. For those in other cities? You can expect Sprint’s 4G rollout to continue throughout 2010 and heading into 2011, but there’s no word on which cities will get it, and when. At least you know there’ll be at least two 4G phones waiting for you when that time does come.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Even though I don’t have Sprint and hate it, I’m glad it finally came to Orlando. Now my friend will finally have something to show off when he gets a 4G-capable phone. It’s ok though, I’ll be a T-Mobile customer once more (Been disconnected forever cuz of money issues) and I’ll have the G2, so eventually, I win. HSPA+ FTW.

  2. Ah, beautiful Lake Eola :) The gays sure know what they’re doing haha

  3. Amen to that, especially since I live there (or would it be “here”?) and I’m a “gay”. We always pick the nicest areas to make our nests.

  4. Nashville also went live today fyi

  5. I’m glad 4G is finally in Orlando, that’s my second home when I’m not in Daytona.

  6. @redandblack1287 – Nashville has been live for a while. They officially added the 4G coverage map on the Sprint.com site sometime before last week.

    Keep up the great work Sprint! I am pulling 2-4Mbps about everywhere and time I test now. Would really like to see some of the numbers that the people around Chicago and a few places in Texas are getting.

    Also, Tampa should officially go live soon…

    Yeah I’ve been using it for a while, and they said in the store that it went live a few days ago, but the email just came out today which is what I figured they based this story off of, so I just kinda threw it out there >.>

    But seriously, 800kb/sec downloads? Yes please, 4G wins the prize

  8. I guess this is cool even though I’m on Verizon and quite happy with my android service here in Orlando. My friend manages a corporate account on sprint for his company up in Charlotte – which has teh 4gees and he says its so over subscribed that he actually gets faster speeds just using the 3g.

  9. They need to go live in sf. Getting impatient.

  10. Sprint doesnt have 4G, it doesn’t meet the 4G spec and is slower than T-Mobile’s 3G. Sprint 4G fail!

  11. erk? what “4G spec”? the only 2 “4G” specs I know of are LTE+ (which there are no devices for) and WiMAX aka 802.16 (which is what sprint uses!)
    BTW I’ve peaked at a bit over 4Gb/s using Sprint’s myfi-like device.
    and before you ask, that is verified with speedtest and my own copy of a 1GB file. I also did an upload test with the same file which scored 1.5Gb/s.
    FYI
    Gb=gigaBIT
    GB=gigaBYTE (8x larger than a gigaBIT)

  12. It’s been working for many sprint users for a while already.

  14. I moved from Orlando to New York earlier this year, which as of yet does not have 4G. Sigh :(

  15. Sprint’s WiMAX is not 4G, it doesn’t meet the specification for 4G. It’s marketing smoke and mirrors. T-Mobile’s 3G is faster than Sprint’s 4G. This has been tested by many people. Here’s just one test:

  16. You people are all stupid, Orlando does not have 4g and will not for years, Get a f’ing life people and do some f’ing research about things before you go online and post stuff like an ignorant asshole!
