Samsung Galaxy S3: Specs |  Pictures | News | Forums!

Welp, it’s official: the phone we’ve all been waiting for has been officially announced in London today. The Samsung Galaxy S III (nope, not S3, or anything else) is being touted as the biggest launch of the year as it houses an 8 megapixel 1080p HD camera, a 1.9 megapixel front camera, 16-64GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, a 4.8 inch 720p AMOLED display, and more.

And though the press release doesn’t mention it, there should be a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos inside with 1GB of RAM to tag along. It has a 2,100 mAh battery to help keep it going all day (though we admittedly expected more). On the software side of things, we’re being introduced to TouchWiz 4.0 and Android 4.0, and Samsung’s focused on smart user interactions.

S-Voice will allow you to do more than the average Android can do in regards to voice action. You can say “snooze” to your alarm clock, for instance, and it’ll wake you up a bit later.

Siri-like commands can be given to bring up the weather, take a photo, send a text message, and more. It understands 8 different accents and languages so it won’t give many users many problems.

“Smart stay” will use the front-facing camera to track your eye movement. It’ll know if you’re reading a webpage or book, for instance, and will keep the display from turning off.

Finally, they have innovated the motion category. Last year, you could zoom and pan simply by holding the display and moving the phone. In addition to this, if you are messaging someone and you decide you want to call them, simply putting the phone up to your ear will automatically dial their number.

The phone will be coming out at the end of this month to European customers, and a global launch including North America (Summer) and Asia will follow shortly afterward (though I guess it’d depend on your definition of shortly).

Samsung Introduces the GALAXY S III, the Smartphone

Designed for Humans and Inspired by Nature

Effortlessly smart and intuitively simple,

Samsung GALAXY S III reveals a new concept of smartphone

London, UK—May 3, 2012—Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, announced today the third generation GALAXY S, the GALAXY S III. Designed for humans and inspired by nature, the GALAXY S III is a smartphone that recognizes your voice, understands your intention, and lets you share a moment instantly and easily.

This sleek and innovative smartphone has the enhanced intelligence to make everyday life easier. With Samsung GALAXY S III, you can view the content like never before on the device’s 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED display. An 8MP camera and a 1.9MP front camera offer users a variety of intelligent camera features and face recognition related options that ensure all moments are captured easily and instantly. Samsung GALAXY S III is powered by Android™ 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, with greatly enhanced usability and practicality to make life easier. Packed with intuitive technology, the GALAXY S III delivers a uniquely personalized mobile experience that refuses to be compromised.

“With the GALAXY S III, Samsung has maximized the consumer benefits by integrating superior hardware with enhanced smartphone usability,” said JK Shin, President and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung. “Designed to be both effortlessly smart and intuitively simple, the GALAXY S III has been created with our human needs and capabilities in mind. What makes me most proud is that it enables one of the most seamless, natural and human-centric mobile experiences, opening up a new horizon that allows you to live a life extraordinary.”

Introducing Natural Interaction

The GALAXY S III enhances the interaction experience between the device and user. Smart enough to detect your face, voice and motions, the GALAXY S III adapts to the individual user to provide a more convenient and natural experience. With the innovative ‘Smart stay’ feature, the GALAXY S III recognizes how you are using your phone – reading an e-book or browsing the web for instance – by having the front camera identify your eyes; the phone maintains a bright display for continued viewing pleasure.

The GALAXY S III features ‘S Voice,’ the advanced natural language user interface, to listen and respond to your words. In addition to allowing information search and basic device-user communication, S Voice presents powerful functions in regards to device control and commands. When your phone alarm goes off but you need a little extra rest, just tell the GALAXY S III “snooze.” You can also use S Voice to play your favorite songs, turn the volume up or down, send text messages and emails, organize your schedules, or automatically launch the camera and capture a photo.

In addition to recognizing your face and voice, the GALAXY S III understands your motions to offer maximized usability. If you are messaging someone but decide to call them instead, simply lift your phone to your ear and ‘Direct call’ will dial their number. With ‘Smart alert,’ the GALAXY S III will also save you from trouble by catching any missed messages or calls; your phone will vibrate to notify missed statuses when picked up after being idle.

Easy and Instant Sharing

The Samsung GALAXY S III is more than a personal device that can be enjoyed by one user – it wants you to share and experience smartphone benefits with family and friends, regardless of where you are. With the new ‘S Beam,’ the GALAXY S III expands upon Android™ Beam™, allowing a 1GB movie file to be shared within three minutes and a 10MB music file within two seconds by simply touching another GALAXY S III phone, even without a Wi-Fi or cellular signal. The ‘Buddy photo share’ function also allows photos to be easily and simultaneously shared with all your friends pictured in an image directly from the camera or the photo gallery.

With ‘AllShare Cast’, users can wirelessly connect their GALAXY S III to their television to immediately transfer smartphone content onto a larger display. ‘AllShare Play’ can be also used to instantly share any forms of files between GALAXY S III and your tablet, PC, and televisions regardless of the distance between the devices. Under AllShare Play is also the ‘Group Cast’ feature that allows you to share your screen among multiple friends on the same Wi-Fi network; you can make comments and draw changes at the same time with your co-workers, witnessing real-time sharing on your individual device.

Human-centric Design with Uncompromised Performance

The GALAXY S III not only presents features with enhanced usability, but also provides an ergonomic and comfortable experience through its human-centric design. Its comfortable grip, gentle curves, and organic form deliver a rich human-centric feel and design. Inspired by nature, its design concept is the flow and movement of nature. The elements of wind, water and light are all evoked in the physical construct of the GALAXY S III. In its essence, the minimal organic design identity is reflected in the smooth and non-linear lines of the device. Available in Pebble Blue and Marble White at launch, Samsung will introduce a variety of additional color options.

With a 4.8” HD Super AMOLED display, the GALAXY S III offers a large and vivid viewing experience. Samsung Mobile’s heritage Super AMOLED display even enhances to HD and 16:9 wider viewing angles. To ensure faster content sharing and connectivity, the GALAXY S III offers Wi-Fi Channel Bonding which doubles the Wi-Fi bandwidth.

The GALAXY S III also sports a range of additional features that boost performance and the overall user experience in entirely new ways. It introduces ‘Pop up play,’ a feature that allows you to play a video anywhere on your screen while simultaneously running other tasks, eliminating the need to close and restart videos when checking new emails or surfing the Web. Its 8MP camera features a zero-lag shutter speed that lets you capture moving objects easily without delay – the image you see is the picture you take. With the ‘Burst shot’ function that instantly captures twenty continuous shots, and the ‘Best photo’ feature that selects the best of eight photographs for you, the GALAXY S III ensures users a more enhanced and memorable camera experience. HD video can be recorded even with the 1.9MP front-facing camera, which you can use to capture a video of yourself. Improved backside illumination further helps to eliminate blur in photos that result from shaking, even under low lights.

Mobile payment is also accessible with the device through advanced Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. The gaming experience is enhanced through ‘Game Hub,’ providing access to numerous social games, while Video Hub brings users high quality TV and movies. Furthermore, Samsung Music Hub will offer a personal music streaming service. Game Hub, Video Hub and Music Hub will be introduced in select countries initially and soon rolled out to global markets.

The Samsung GALAXY S III will be available from the end of May in Europe before rolling out to other markets globally.

  1. I love it, my next phone!

  2. Looks pretty cool! Great job Samsung =)

  3. Fuck yeah

  4. Frst

    1. HAHAHAHA no you weren’t!

  5. the design…. look ugly.

as for 2100 battery… i still need to charge my GN 3 times per day with 2150 extended battery…..

    1. The Galaxy Nexus looks better IMO…..something about no hardware buttons really adds that WOW-factor.

But I might need a better look at the S3….the button might not be so bad

      1. If you’re in the US I’m sure it won’t have a button. Still think it’s ugly though.

        1. And where are you pulling this nugget from?

          1. The GSII and GSI

          2. I wouldn’t assume anything until it’s actually announced.

          3. like Lee explained I am blown away that people able to get paid $4222 in 1 month on the internet. have you read this site ==ಠ▃ಠ===>>> http://earnusdathome.weebly.com/

          4. the US version of the gs2 didnt have the middle button and the gs3 wont either

          5. I wouldn’t assume anything until it’s actually announced.

          6. I think we all know where he’s pulling everything from!

      2. Agreed. Samsung’s physical/capacitive buttons really look ugly there. At least HTC made them look almost like the software buttons, although I would’ve still preferred software buttons on the One X, too.

        1. personally i hate the onscreen buttons on the GN… always hitting home button when trying to type a space….

          1. How do you miss the space bar? Its the biggest button! And if the buttons are not on screen they are in the same spot and are almost always capacitive anyway.

    2. blame Verizon, CDMA, and the fact all their radios stay live all day for charging your GN 3 times a day… the One X has an 1800 mAh battery and lasts over a day on AT&T’s LTE network.

      1. ya my gsm GN lasts fine all day… only time its ever came close to dying was when i left gps nav on in my pocket for a few hours…

      2. my razr maxx lasts all day

        1. Your Razr Maxx needs a 3300 mah battery to accomplish that feat… The One X 1800 mah battery lasts just as long. What are you trying to point out? CDMA sucks?

    3.  Don’t really much for the appearance. I’m still likely going to go with the EVO LTE over SGS3.

    4. is it running non-stop all day?? how much do you use your phone…

    5. As with many phones, you can’t decide that until you hold it in your hand.  This phone is fantastic…I like the design especially if it’s not plastic…but really, all of the software features are what I’m interested in.  Love my GSII.

      1. nice review man. Were fed the same disign of a phone for so long we dont appreciate difference. Like the s3 is going for a pebble look

    6. I actually don’t know why everyone hates the look. I don’t think its GREAT but I don’t think its ugly either. I for one am tired of the masculine industrial look. Samsung is smart, imo, in trying to appeal to a broader audience than male techies.

      1. I TOTALLY agree with the battery comment, though. I’d MUCH rather have a slightly thicker phone with a big wide battery (think RAZR MAXX) that covers the entire back of the phone.

        1. i like what u say . i like that it has a removable battery. But I dont like what motorola did with the RAZR, they creted the MAXX like weeks later. When people already bought the RAZR.

    7. There must be something seriously wrong with your device (or you’re a liar which I certainly hope not lol..) as I too own a Galaxy Nexus and can very easily go for a day and a half with normal / average usage (I have the official 2000 mAh extended battery and even with the regular battery it lasts the day at least).

Try to amend your settings to disable unwanted background applications. Set the brightness to automatic for when needs be. I often change the brightness depending on the situation or what I’m doing on my device. For video / pics / games I usually set the brightness to the highest, for everything else either auto to mid.

If the above doesn’t work then seriously consider either replacing your handset OR buying the official Samsung battery for the Galaxy Nexus. Please remember that ALL samsung handsets are covered by a 2 year manufacturers warranty – MANY people forget about this!

In regards to your comment about the aesthetics for the Galaxy S3 I totally agree.. It looks like someone beat it with the ugly stick! Lol..

      1. I installed miui rom with Franco kernel. I use the Verizon extended battery with 40% brightness setting. The max screen time I got is usually around 2hrs. It might be the 4G that drinking the battery, i dont know. Or I might use my phone a lot. Shopping, gaming, and news.

        1. I dunno yo.. Something isn’t right – regardless of 4G! Try to get your hands on an official Samsung extended battery on eBay or something and always try to do a full charge overnight with the device powered off..

Also try to disable all background apps! Also Settings > Developer options> Under Apps – tick don’t keep activities & for background process limit select ‘No background processes’. Give that a whirl – if you still do not notice an improvement seek to get the device replaced via Samsung.

Also try to avoid using Apps with ads.. Free Apps with ads tend to drain battery..

          1. my 2150 is made by samsung and sell from Verizon store. real, 100%.

          2. ma de.. sorry yo.. maybe it’s your device which is faulty then OR 4g is really destroying the crap out of your battery!

  6. Not that aesthetically nice wow look I thought

  7. Not as good looking as the One X imo but it has a removable battery and a sdcard slot so this will be my next phone.

  8. HUGE LETDOWN. the biggest for me is the Pentile display

    1. What? It says AMOLED…

      1. Yea its superAMOLED with a pen tile matrix setup!!! Samsung why you pen tile?!?! You failed

        1. Lol most people here have never seen the display of galaxy nexus on a day to day basis and they talk shit like they know it’s bad. Tell you what the 4s colorslooks wash out next to hd superamoled and you can’t tell the display is pentile at all.

        2. Have you looked at the HD pentile displays?  They are much better than the old ones.  At HD resolution it’s pretty much unnoticeable.

          1. They are much better, but I’d prefer a non pentile SLCD2

  9. Coming in 2014 the Galaxy S8 with a 7″ display!  There is a such thing as too big.

  10. Siri…? Siri? Siri?!

    Guys, I think she’s obsolete.

  11. What has got me sold and willing to fork up cash….64GB of memory…now im way excited about that…that is awesome

    1. Agreed…God willing it doesn’t cost a small fortune for that extra memory…and if it doesn’t, I hope it sets a precedent…64GB WITH sd card? Nice.

  12. I fucking just fell in love def a iphone shit anyother android killer

  13. WOW, what a let down.

    1.  When was the last time a highly anticipated phone lived up to the expectations?  EVO one?  No.   Bionic, No.  Thunderbolt? No.  Gnex? No.  iPhone 4s? No.  As sad as it is i think the last one was the iPhone4.

IMO most of us who check android blogs and the like will constantly be let down because we know whats around the corner.  I bet this phone will impress your average GS2 owner who never checks out the internet for phone news.

  14. Pfft, not available in the US till December? HTC will have a phone with a 1080p screen by then. Samsung fail…

    1. It’s coming to the US in June.

Not really sure where you got December from.

      1. Actually not sure where you got June from. The only thing samsung said is coming to the US “this summer”.

        1. It isn’t on the press release but it was stated during the presentation.

          http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/03/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-hspa-arriving-in-may-4g-version-hitting-n/

        2. Which, with the carriers getting their paws on it first, probably means early September.

        3. On the Lunar calendar, May 1st is the first day of summer… which is why the Summer Solstice is also called “Midsummer”…. clearly, this man is a Pagan Witch…. burn him.  ;-)

  15. That blue is really gross.

    1. did you lick it? how do you know its gross?

      1. Since when does gross just apply to taste?

  16. I still prefer the One X in every possible way

    1. So do I appart from the Tinny video recording sound.

    2. I prefer a removable battery and sd card slot any day, but that’s what’s great about Android, one size doesn’t fit all and with Android it doesn’t have to.

  17. So…. Yea…. The htc one x is the winner this year. I’ll be copping the EvoLTE knowing Samsung won’t have anything to top it

    1. love the sarcasm

  18. disappointed. S2 design better, this phone just has better hardware. I wudnt mind an S2+ phone with the same hardware config as this. The curved phone reminds me of some of the older samsung phones… nothing out of the ordinary. Apple boys will say S Voice is nothing but Siri…sadly …thats the truth.

  19. Summer?!?!  Bullsh#t!  I can’t wait that long.  Really, I have until next month.  This sucks.

  20. I’m tired of the plastic backing. It’s childish and cheap looking.

    1. Childish? lol

      1. Cheap toy-like?

    2.  good thing its not plastic then….

    3. childish?

    4. What do you expect from a phone with a REMOVABLE battery? Show me a phone with an amazing design, that has a removable battery.

      1. The HTC Inspire 4G (Desire HD) has a beautiful aluminum unibody structure with removable battery.

    5. Who cares…. most people put a phone condom on anyway.

  21. Can u ship me one?
    [email protected]

  22. Hey what’s my cliq xt doing in Samsung’s event.

    1. LMAO, what a letdown indeed. Ugly design, no a15 processor, 8 mp camera (yes, mp do matter to some extent), no on-screen buttons, and worse battery than the GNex

  23. If the camera cannot take Low light better photos the will have to wait for Sony’s new flagship phone in June/July

Love the HTC One X but the video sound quality is tinny like most HTC phone.

  24. I really hope someone realizes that a 4″ top of the line phone is something many people want. Remember how we all laughed at the 5″ Dell Phone?

    1. Its just me, but I didn’t laugh at the size…I laughed at Dell.

      1. That’s what she said? o.O

    2. ya I dont mind the size of the GN… but hoping the Sony hyabussa is a little better… screen sizes are getting ridiculous… thats why we all bout tablets..

  25. Am I the only one who thinks Siri and voice command is stupid? Where was the bigger battery? 2100 will last anyone maybe 3/4 a day. 8mp camera is weak. Giant disappointment. The only thing i wish my Galaxy note had compared to this is 64GB internal storage, THAT’S a nice surprise. Should’ve been 2750mah battery at least with a 12mp camera.

    1. The fact that you can wake it up with voice is nice, I’ve wanted that feature for a while; it’s going to make my interactions with my phone easier while I drive.

Battery life doesn’t lie only in the size of the battery, I’m sure they’ve made software advances that will add to the battery life.

Camera quality isn’t defined by the amount of megapixels.

I care about great hardware too, but don’t freak out over numbers when we don’t know anything about how it performs in the wild.

      1. Not freaking out bro, I’m very satisfied with my Galaxy Note. It still should have had a bigger battery than 2100 and everyone knows more MP doesn’t mean better quality. but with a larger screen, a higher MP count would be nice for the phone.

How is waking up the phone with your voice easier than tapping the hold button?

Not to mention a higher mah is the biggest factor for battery life. Example RAZR vs. RAZR maxx. I don’t care how great the software is, the RAZR’s smart actions were great but it still could barely last a day due to the lower mah rating.

  26. Game set and match HTC one x 128g. Potential damn that’s what we have been missing with a removable battery lmfao bye s2 helooo s3

  27. Don’t care for the design but do like some of the gimmicky features it has fir they are convenient sounding.

  28. Are you effin kidding me? Who seriously thought this presentation was showable? They keep speaking about organic this and emotional that… ARGH!!!

  29. So much for no bezzel design. This thing is gonna be huge. Almost as big as the note. Any dimensions specs yet?

    1. I have the Note and trust me this is nowhere near as big as the Note!  The GS3 phone size is very comparable to the Nexus.

    2. 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm – GSIII vs. 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.49mm – GSII

  30. Nexus still better. I would rather keep my S2 with a CM9 than using a slightly better and uglier S3 with crappy TW. (Considering the time untill CM is release for S3)

  31. I am under-impressed!!!

  32. Can we get a side view? So far the thing looks ugly.. and the rounded edges are too pronounced. One of the leaks with a similar looking button had a much better design, and it was provided in black:
    https://phandroid.com/2012/04/24/a-new-galaxy-s-iii-prototype-appears-shows-off-custom-virtual-menu-button/

  33. Looking on the bright side, it’s incredibly thin, the processor is possibly the fastest yet, the battery life sounds promising and 64gb is a huge amount of storage.

HTC have the better display and (arguably) win with design, but otherwise the specs aren’t far apart. And both crush any competition.
I’d be torn between this and the One X if I was buying now, but neither will tear me away from my Nexus.

    1. Just curious about how the HTC has a better screen, I’m not saying you’re wrong just would like to know more.

      1. It all depends on personal preference. I would much rather have an HD Super AMOLED with Pentile than an HD LCD that’s non pentile. I’m guessing his reasoning was Pentile vs non Pentile.

      2. Better white levels on the LCD, AMOLED over saturates and feels fake after a while.

And the One X has higher pixel density since it’s a tenth of an inch smaller.

        Plus pentile, but whatever.

        1. I could counter with amoled has better blacks, better viewing angles, is easier to read in direct light, and I highly doubt that .1″ really makes a noticeable difference in pixel density. In fact HTC switched to slcd displays when they were having a hard time getting amoled displays because of shortages. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. It’s all in the eye of the beholder.

  34. HTC one X is the 2012 king of android phone!

    1.  So far…..we haven’t hit the halfway point in the year yet. The manufacturers usually whip their best stuff out around the holidays

  35. Phones hot landfill looks wise

  36. A little trip around the Next Galaxy http://www.nextgalaxybirthday.com/

  37. Haha what a let down. Perfect for my girlfriend but ill keep the nexus

  38. Sense UI is far better than the cartoony touchwiz UI.

    1. I hate cartoonish touchwiz too!

      1. how about scooby dooish touchwiz? thats my favorite

        1. Or the brand new nature lovin touchwiz.

    2. It’s why I put Go Launcher on my Note the day after I bought it. Have since comes to my senses and bought an X with Sense.

  39. So Glad I pre ordered my HTC One X!!! Sure the battery on the GSIII is 300Mah larger, but it’ll eat up following your damn eyes with the front facing camera. Hahaha, so many people got let down.

    1. The GSIII battery is about 2400mah larger than the One X, when you include the spare you can carry in your wallet, and 4500mah larger if you carry two.  Shame on HTC for not giving us that option.

      1. I’m not desperate enough to need more than one battery. And android is about variety, you need batteries, get the GSIII.

        1. Translation: I’m bummed I didn’t wait for the SIII, but I’ll be buggered if I’ll admit it!

          1. You’re an idiot. I hate touchwiz, and this looks uglier than the galaxy nexus. You’re just a butthurt sammy fanboy

    2. That’s a feature you can turn on/off so it’s up to you.  The One X is a pretty nice phone but the non-removable battery and no sd card slot were killers for me on that model.  Plus the reports of problems with the finish, I’m pretty anal about the appearance of my phone.

      1. The finish problem was the One S. And yeah, you can turn it off, but then what’s the point of having it? I want to use my phone. And this new exynos chip runs on A9 architecture so it may be less efficient.

        1. You are correct but I was replying to your comment where you said this stuff would run all the time which it only does if you want it to.  You can’t have your cake and eat it too.  It may be less efficient but we don’t know any of that yet, just assumptions.  Besides with a removable battery it’s not a huge deal.  My Captivate lasts about 34hrs on a charge now days but it was much less when I first got it.  Now that I’ve upgraded to CM9 from CM7 the battery life is fantastic, but i still have extra batteries just in case.  Before the improved battery life I would change the battery once a day and it wasn’t a big deal.  Different strokes for different folks.

  40. itty bitty battery

  41. So, the US seems to have gotten the big shit sandwich as far as information today.  We only found out that our product will launch in summer (no month specified as far as I can tell).  Also, the mobile press site shows the caveat of LTE enabled devices may have different stats, so we get to watch more speculation on which processor(s) are going into the US market phone.  The phone looks great, as presented in London.  I hate having to wait until God knows when to actually find out what will actually ship in the US version, without more bullshit “leaks” and speculation.

  42. Looks sweet.  Ppl that are not impressed need to realize you cant re-invent the wheel every 12 months, when the wheel works perfect already.  Software additions look sweet…hoping they carry over to Galaxy Nexus or devs port em over :D

    go AOKP

    1. Yes i agree you cant reinvent the wheel but you don’t have to shit on it. The aesthetics of this device are just FUBAR. Great specs or not it looks HORRIBLE. Sammy should know by now the majority of ppl could give a damn about specs. we here on this blog sure as hell do but for the average joe they want it to look cool and be able to take pictures, call, facebook. thats it. if it looks like shit its not gonna appeal to ppl

  43. what a big ass let down

  44. Anyone know if it includes a notification LED or possibly if that big ugly button lights up as one?

  45. What the hell are all of you negative Nancies expecting? This phone will blow away everything else on the market by a large margin.

    1. that would depend on what you are looking for in a phone.
The RazrMAxx kicks its battery A**.
The OneX has a better display, and feels better in hand. The only new awesome thing i saw was the eye movement following camera, but i hear that is hit or miss if it works.

      1. The same RazrMaxx running 2.3? Apples and oranges.
        Better display? According to who?
Feels better in hand? 100% opinion. I find the cold metal of HTC phones to feel terrible. I much prefer high quality smooth plastic on my phones over brittle metal.

        1. RazrMaxx 3300 vs  2100 I don’t care what android. If it had a bigger battery it would last longer.
Better display in that it isn’t pentile, and produces more real life colors. but some people like oversaturtation.
feels better in hand. 100% opinion.
That was my whole point, your statement was “blows everything out of the water,” to which i responded “it depends what you are looking for.” Isn’t that he same as saying your opinion.

      2. I have the GSM Galaxy Nexus with a 1750mAH battery and the battery life is great. It seems like LTE is the real issue here. It’s quite possible that the US LTE version will be larger with a bigger battery. Hopefully though, they just figure out how to make LTE radios that don’t destroy your battery life.

        1. Agreed, LTE is the problem, but since no one wants to give that up they need to make batteries that will keep up. I’m justy puzzeled because i though batteries were figured out with the RazrMaxx, and assumed all future phones would have a similar size battery. Sadly that hasn’t been the case, as no one has even come close to that battery capacity.

  46. no black. lame. has some nice features, but touchwiz, a plastic body, and pentile matrix will keep me looking towards the future.
Was disappointed in the OneX non-removeable battery, and no SD expansion. My Rezound with ICS is top notch, so I’ll keep looking. Here’s looking at you Huawei Ascend Quad D XL, or whatever it is called today.

  47. Samsung galaxy s one.

  48. I called it. galaxy nexus with improved processor and touch wiz & sd slot.
and they still got hardware buttons…LMAO.
    Global release? lol.
Pentile Screen (tho not as bad as every makes it) LMAO
    GNexus… FTW…

  49. Why can’t we get a device with all the goodies in it? Where’s the stock ICS from the G-Nex? The sensor from the One X? The massive battery on the Razr Maxx? You would think a manufacture would release this device knowing that it would be the go to device for Android. Where are the 2nd gen LTE device that jive closer to 3G device battery life?

    1. Here, here. and add an awesome camera as well. doesn’t seem like we are asking for that much. its all out there. someone just need to put it together in one package. Possibly Huawei?

  50. It seems like a lot of the upgrades compared to my Note are software. Is it possible that those upgrades could come to my note as well? Since they seem like they would be cool to have. The voice wake up is nice and would be convient while driving.

  51. Battery life is gonna suck.  With this always listening and camera watching you stuff.

    1. Plus the exynos chip has a9 architecture. It may be even less efficient than the Tegra 3

      1. very true.

      2. Tegra 3 is A9 architecture as well with 40nm die size vs this Exynos
that is built on 32nm die. So if I had to bet, I’d say Exynos>Tegra
        when it comes to efficiency.

I know the Tegra has the 5th low power core, but that really isn’t
working out too well, it’s not delivering the promised battery savings
        at all.

        1. Well with the exynos chip not even having the power saving core it makes me wonder. Nothing to do but speculate for now.

  52. Android OEMs really need to start employing some imagination when it comes to design. The One X and the SIII are *ugly* phones. I don’t care what the processor clocks – if it’s an ugly phone, I won’t buy it. I could design something sexier in 5 minutes flat. I’m now really stuck – what’s my next phone gonna be? Razr Maxx perhaps…

    1. One X uglier than the Razr Maxx? You are joking, right?
To each their own, I suppose!

  53. *sigh*
apparently HTC wins this round. i like the GS3 better than the ONE X, but the EVO LTE beats them both.

I was really hoping for a unicorn, but the still-froyo touchwiz, the hardkeys, and the pentile screen all together altogether make it a letdown. .

so, my choice of phone, (once my contract ends in september)  is, as of now, the EVO LTE. I’m looking forwards to someone one-upping it tho :)

  54. Gotta admit it has good specs and some good features, but it’s not as impressive as the SGS2 was a year ago. And it’s pretty fugly, even the baby blue Lumia 900 looks better.

  55. It’s ugly.

  56. I like it.  Have to see it in person first but if I could get out of my contract with the Note I would definitely be tempted by this.

  57. What revolutionary design features does this really bring to me compared to my I9000? I can’t see any I’d actually want. I can see a load of bloatware that will be removed when I root and install MiUi or CM9, but innovations, definitely not. As for design, I like the curves kind of. But I still believe the I9000 looks better. I wasn’t impressed with the SII when it came out either, I just can’t see enough of a jump. Now the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, that could have my money any day purely for the design. If I get a new phone, I hope it to be the Google official version of this with what I hope will be touch buttons!

  58. I’m gonna cry…. I waited so long and this is ho law it turns out ? …..

  59. Damn… looks like Chris isn’t eating underwear….

  60. Some really cool software improvements, and I hope they come to my GNote, But, the hardware improvements are minor(except 64gb internal memory) , and nothing that would cause me to even consider changing.

The AT&T version will have the S4 Krait chip, which actually outperforms the Exynos, in most tests, and definitely gets better battery life. The HTC One XL, is gorgeous (IMO), but the lack of expandable storage, is a non starter for me. TW vs Sense, doesn’t matter to me at all, as EVERY phone I get is rooted, and either Go Launcher, ADW, or APEX(my favorite for ICS), installed.

As of now, it looks like I will be waiting for the GNote 2, before I consider a new phone.

  61. Meh, I’m gonna keep my SGS2 and wait for the SGS4, or maybe the next Galaxy phone.

  62. amazing topic

  63. I swear Phandroid readers are never pleased. I think it looks great!

  64. This makes my decision easy. Monday morning I preorder the Sprint EVO 4G LTE.

  65. I’ll be happy with ice cream sandwich on my Note I was hoping this phone would be something worth getting but it looks like I’ll be waiting for the Samsung galaxy note 2

  66. As nice as this is not much of a step up, ill stick with my note, which will get ICS goodness soon which will make it already quicker than it is

  67. For some reason I’m seeing more black than I am blue. Is it really dark blue? Poor lighting?

  68. meh.

  69. Right now, I’m still leaning towards the EVO LTE. Samsung could sway me if the Sprint version has software keys and a small possibility they change screens. Also, release both colors simultaneously for once Sprint. My money just got funny, so I’m not pre-ordering the EVO. Maybe that will buy some time for that info to surface. I don’t see Sprint getting this until the end of June possibly early July though.

  70. I wanted to consider selling my gnex and getting this on verizon but I needed two features to actually do it. One is better radios (which we won’t know until reviews come in) and the other was hd amoled plus, which it won’t have. I don’t like pentile on my gnex. Yes I can tell

  71. and what’s the deal about pentile and non pentile thing? LOL.. seriously?
    uggh

  72. Still don’t think it will sway me from my rezound if it comes to Verizon. Guess ill keep hoping the iPhone 5 will have a decent size screen.

  73. my only disappointment is the back, it’s too plain.. the rest of the hardware is fine with me.. hopefully they keep the exynos for the US carriers

  74. Looks fine. Broke my GNex screen and it’s way too expensive to repair. Also much disappointed with the updates for the Google phones. I have Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus: GNex meets most of my requirements and is a fantastic tool but will move because of the screen and disappointing missing updates: Most of the hi end Android phones have the newest ICS but none of my Google phones. I’ll give Samsung and bloody Touch Wiz a shot and maybe root it.
Couldn’t care about form factor. All phones look the same. Do like Cowons phone a like mp3 players design though.
Hate the heavy HTC and Apple feel. Like the plastic :-)

    1. Woah, dude. What’s heavy about a One X? O_o

      1. Sorry, haven’t tried/seen it. Have the old Hero and Desire and felt a bit tired of HTC so moved to Google phones. One X looks really fantastic and is surely a good pick (great phone). Can’t say anything bad about One X but really like the Samsung build Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus and looked forward to the new Galaxy. Will always consider HTC seriously though :-)

  75. I know it’s supposed to be available in the US in June but is there any info on what carriers it will be on? This phone WILL be in my hands as soon as it touches down on US soil! Take my money!!

  76. initially I was disappointed, but after reading and watching some impressions, I’ve changed my mind. this phone rocks. best android phone no doubt.

  77. How did you know i was tired of this!?

  78. Htc one x looks better design wise and the battery is comparable considering the s3 super amoled will consume more 2100 isnt enoufh fotmr an amoled screen thats why the razr maxx was upped to 3300mah

  79. Unfortunately, the rumor that the S3 would just be an incremental upgrade over the S2 came true. I expected far better specs, like a 12 megapixel camera, 2GB ram, 2GHz dualcore Exynos processor with A15 architecture, 1080p screen and a battery of at least 2500 mAh. Maybe this is a bit demanding and the S3 was a bit overhyped, but it is just really disappointing that not a single one of my expectations came true… Also, the design is ugly, I thought there would be almost no bezel?

  80. Look familiar..?

  81. I’m loving that live wallpaper though!

  82. After seeing it in action in a few videos, I’ve changed my mind. The phone is gorgeous, minus the the back of the phone. I’ll be getting the HTC One X.. then this when it comes out. Best of both worlds :)

  83. Looks like Verizon may get it after all…sure hope so.

  84. This new “nature inspired” device looks cheap, and i can already see that ugly home button being a problem for people.

  85. Galaxy Nexus w/extended battery (2,100mh). I’m on LTE and get 18-24 hours of use before needing a charge. The difference for me is Juice Defender Ultimate which automatically toggles my data on/off all day. Have it check email and sync my apps every two hours. Phone calls and text messages still come through instantly. It’s the $4.99 solution never mentioned on these boards.

  86. I don’t lyk that curved design. It looks lyk the Tmo GS2. I’m crack-addicted to squares. LoL!!

I hope Sprint squares it up. One thing that scares me is rooting. With all these features, if I root, will I lose them all? Will it be hard to integrate those features into a ROM? That IDK.

  87. It shoulda been a 4.0″ screen and made of metal.

  88. No thanks Samsung, I’m not interested in a tablet sized phone made of cheap plastic.

Let me know when you have a 4.0″ device with build quality on par with the HTC One S.

  89. I am inspired by nature. Touch me.
