Bum bum buuuuummmmm. The universal sound for a dramatic twist or turn in a story. “The story,” you ask? Well I’m talking about rumors earlier today suggesting the Nexus Prime would have a set of spec to die for. Highlights were a 1GHz dual-core TI OMAP4 processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and more. Here’s the full list of alleged specs:
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
- 9mm thin
- 4.65-inch 1280 x 720-pixel Super AMOLED HD with curved glass
- TI OMAP 4460 dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.2GHz
- 1GB of RAM
- 32GB of built-in storage
- 5-megapixel camera on the back, 1.3-megapixel in the front
- 1080p HD video capture support
- LTE/HSPA depending on carrier
- Wi-Fi a/b/g/n
- NFC
- 1,750 mAh battery
Great, except there’s one little problem. Alongside suggestions that those specs were wrong, GSMArena hears it from their own anonymous trusted inside source who is familiar to the matter that those specs are “completely and utterly wrong.” With that, they provided their own list of the specs they’ve heard this thing will boast.
- 1.5GHz dual-core Exynos processor
- 8 megapixel camera with new improved sensor
- 1080p HD video reccording
- 2050 mAh battery rated for two days of moderate use without charging
- LTE with dual-mode CDMA/GSM radios
Common for both set of specs is the 4.6 inch display with its 720p HD resolution. Moral of this story – wait until next week. Samsung’s going to be taking the wraps off of this thing on October 11th – just 5 days from now – so there’s really no use in getting up in arms about these specs if they’re not what you expected or wanted.
Speculation is fun, but as with any rumor none of it is right or wrong until a press release is issued and the device is able to be touched by anyone whose name isn’t “Anonymous Source” or “Source ‘Familiar With’ the Matter.” Let’s move along now. [GSMArena]
EPIC beyond measures, take my money already!
The only thing I’m still bummed out about is the screen size…4.65 inch is a bit too big for my tastes, but certainly not a dealbreaker, just something I need to get used to/find a workaround for that doesn’t involve buying baggier pants
You’re loosing ~0.3″ of the front of the device that used to be used for buttons, and that space is going to the screen. The phone itself shouldn’t be significantly different in size from any phone out today.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… we’ll see…
I ask once again, where has this EVER been said? I mean it truly to where has this ever been said? or are you, and many other, just pulling “facts” out of their ass? Just because the tablets have screen buttons does not mean the phones will. I personally hope they don’t have screen buttons, but that is neither here nor there. Not saying they won’t, or some won’t at least, but saying for sure they will have on screen buttons is stupid when you have no proof.
ok sorry rant over x-x
This was the whole point of ICS. It is to bring the tablet(Honeycomb) and phone(Gingerbread) OSes together, so why the heck would they make their unified OS split on another area? It stands to reason that it will be on-screen navigation.
One OS doesn’t mean every feature on every device. it means there is one OS that has every feature, but not necessarily activated for any one device.
Either way, you still act like you know it going to happen. Which you don’t. Unless there is something you would like to tell us ;D. ( lol ) I feel like phones won’t have on-screen buttons. But i still know it is possible. But people stating that there is on-screen buttons with 100% certainty just bothers me especially when nothing has ever even been said about it.
Even if you had said it is a possibility of on-screen buttons so the phone wont be bigger yada yada yada. i probably wouldn’t have said anything. But to act like you know it will happen is just wrong and ignorant.
Turns out I, and everyone else that had done some research on what Google’s path was to be with ICS, was right.

Thank you, you are the first to give me any kinda proof. ( i missed the buttons when i first saw the picture i guess lol)
I will admit defect at this point. However, people were citing on-screen buttons as fact before this picture was released even. And that is what bothers me really. I even take this picture with a grain of salt, not because of the buttons though i take every “leaked” photo on the internet with a gain of salt. LOL
Well thanks again for teh proof. I am out now.
I got RSI from swyping on the Galaxy S II because it’s such a stretch, and that’s only 4.3″. May be a 2-handed job on this.
TBH though, with that resolution and screen size, it eradicates the need for a tablet for me, which I guess is what they’re going for.
GSM Arena’s claims are way off and contradict other reports. I highly doubt the Prime will be a global phone with an LTE radio running an Exynos processor.
The only reason I give it any thought whatsoever is that the galaxy s2 HD LTE has already been announced for korea and has almost exactly the specs that gsmarena is claiming with the 1.5exynos gsm/cdma and lte, 8mp camera, etc. Food for though anyway even though they haven’t said when that phone is coming out.

T-Mobile Please
cannot WAIT!
Keep in mind that there will be at least three different versions of the Nexus (one for VZW, one for Sprint, one for everyone else) that will have different specs.
Also, recall that TI has already flaunted their partnership with the Android team to be the ICS launch chipset supplier. The first set of specs will be indubitably found on the Galaxy Nexus.
Thats not how google works the most they change ever between nexus series is the screen tech and radios if one nexus has it the others will too. I still doubt verizon is getting a nexus though its gonna be a droid they get while it may be similar in many ways i doubt it will be backed by google.
2 days with moderate use is the best thing I’ve heard since wireless
battery storage capacity hasnt advanced as fast as other tech, if you want a longer lasting phone you must be willing to cut back on cpu, gpu, ram, display size, LTE…
Three radios AND that big of a battery in a phone that slim? No way.
Wow…I was wondering if I was going to get through this entire thread without someone noticing that.
Seriously, lets look at just the battery alone. Take a peek at the Incredible battery for example, 1300 mah. To get 1050 that’s OVER 50% bigger. I don’t see any room in that image for a battery that size…and if they had a new battery tech to get something like a 50% boost, you woulda heard about it. I could see a bit, heck, maybe even up to 1/3 increase ( that’d at least hit the 1750 ), but a 50% increase in battery charge while fitting inside something that tiny?
Color me skeptical.
Good to see this on the site glad to help spread the rumor mill :D
Also just read phandroid that there will be a notification light that can change colors at the bottom of screen lets see if this is true 5 more days XD
DroidLife is claiming that they are two seperate phones. A shitty one for for Verizon, and much better one months later for everyone else.
I can only pray that this isnt the case…..
This seems likely given all of the confusion. I hope it’s not true, but I bet it will be.
It wouldn’t make sense tho…they claim is is based off ti so if thats true wouldn’t both phones use a ti processor…something has to give and I hope we have the exynos chipset
Yes it does seem likely, but I like what Phandroid is reporting better.
I read the article and its only there thoughts no proof at all..
OOOH MY GOD!!!
You had me at the title! :D
I trust GSM Arena about as far as I can throw a Buick.
For what reason? They regularly have unreleased devices to preview before they are released, way before most other sites. They even had the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 for a full preview ready on their site the day it was announced, so they got it before it was announced and were trusted by Samsung to keep quiet until they got the go ahead. This happens all the time. They do have a lot of very close ties with many manufacturers and insiders.
I’d trust them more than I trust BGR, that’s for sure.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS
Perhaps both specs are correct? Different specs for different carriers. Galaxy II S already did this with a different CPU for the T-Mobile version.
But only because it was necessary.
This became my theory as the time exclusive launch became more popular.. I’m thinking Verizon version will launch with a TI 4460 and hope the CDMA variant (Sprint) will launch Q1 2012 with a Samsing 4212 @ 1.5GHz. Besides Sprint while building their LTE network has not brought any of it online yet. I think the halo Google phone combined with taking the LTE network live would make for a nice event.
Wow, I posted in GSMarena’s blog to stop “creating things out of thin air” and the comment was not approved! I even said, “Don’t lower yourself to BGR status by faking info”.. amazing!
I NEVER TRUST BGR…. ALL THIS HYPE BETTER BE RIGHT DONT WANT IT TO TURN OUT LIKE THEM iLOSERS!!!
i hope it comes to at&t!
a better look… http://nexusprimer.tumblr.com/
zomg
Well shit just call me Lil john….skeet, skeet, skeet!
that looks PIMP!!!
fuckkkkk!!!!!!!
Goddamn that is sexyyy!
i can”t believe i’m still looking at it….
know what you mean, i saved it as my pc wallpaper..
sweet mother of Zeus that thing looks good
the profile of the phone is upside down. idk, this seems fake. it’s smexy though so i want it to be real.
EDIT: looks like someone caught the error and fixed it.
EDIT 2: here’s the original: http://i56.tinypic.com/wbvts0.jpg
if they just flipped it, it has to be Photoshop right?
its not even fixed on tumblir
Wha.. how.. WANT!
wait. i thought the hump was for the camera and the power button was bottom left. that would mean the side view is upside down?
no. it’s like the nexus s. the hump is at the bottom of the phone and the power button is on the top right. the slight notch that you see by the power button is where the camera is
much too curvey, it that is REAL
I’ll see on Tue, but I’m really not enamored with this curve nonsense. I keep my phone in my pocket, why do I want it to be curved? For putting it up to my face? A flat phone works just fine for that. It seems like glare just gets worse when it can magnify a bit. And anything that increases production cost for no good reason except style is not the style I’m looking for. But I do want a Nexus over any non-vanilla phone, so I guess I’m stuck with whatever they give me. That’s why I wish there were multiple Nexus phones available (at least one from each manufacturer).
No to sit comfortably in your hand if its like the Nexus S the curve won’t even be that noticeable.
I’m so mad you posted this man.. honestly that shxt is sexy as fxckk i can’t even hold my tounge back… but mannnnnnn if it doesn’t look that good imma be disappointed… omg this is would be a dream come true!
As long as there is a Nexus on Verizon then I am happy. I am pleased with both sets of specs.
Agree just dont make us wait months to get it. Announce it tues with preorders thur like how apple does it
I just pre’d
I hate Samsung but this phone sounds amazing!
This sounds way better but no thanks, no way Verizon
Sprint Please!
i really do think that VZW will get the GSII LTE version and the rest of the carriers will get the new nexus. i ma be wrong.but hey….we will find out tuesday.
Please please please Samsung/Google don’t let it be a stupid, horrible Pentile display!!!
I hated the Galaxy S1 for that (and the GPS issues). Nexus Prime could be the ultimate phone if it comes with full RGB pixels.
Then again maybe at the very much increased resolution even someone with good close-range-sight (like me) won’t be able see the stupid horrible pentile checkerboard pattern in pure reds and blues, and the smaller fonts blured…
NOOOO
PLEASE NOT THE MALI 400!!!!
Im gonna be pretty pissed if there’s no Micro SD slot…
Is 32gb’s really not enough for you?? do you put all of your porn on your phone?
i don’t think Google will do something like this…. the Nexus is a brand of Google and it is a developers phone….. T-mobile has had the 1st two Nexus devices… now Sprint, AT&T has the Nexus…. it will only make sense if the 3rd Nexus comes to all Carriers at the same time……. but to make the Nexus3 a Verizon exclusive doesn’t sound like Google at all……………that’s more Apple-ing if you ask me! Google wants Android everywhere…. so just wait and see until Google and Google only make this thing official………………………………………………………………………………….
Verizon should be getting their own version if I recall correctly an article on here showed it on the roadmap for a DROID prime on verizon not a Nexus
I can’t even see that unless I really try.
Yeeeeeeah, now these specs are MORE LIKE IT.
And when this comes out there will be the new htc that everyone wants. And after that the new google motorola that everyone wants. When i say after that i mean like 2 weeks top before something better comes out. That is why it really sucks to be an android user. Which is why i am now an apple user! IPHONE FTW
Is it really better to get stuck with one phone every year or so with specs you wither love, hate, or are meh about? To me the best thing about android is the options. Don’t like Motorola, there are plenty of other phones with similar specs. need a dual core Snapdragon processor, there are a couple of phones with those with many other options for you to choose from. I does suck that there might be something “better” out in two week, but if you wait and decide what you want and what you need, there is bound to be at least one phone you’ll want… unless of course you just want the absolute newest phone, all the time.
Why so serious zerocool? Get a sense of humor i only was sounding fanboyish to piss everyone off. Yes android is very open and specs wise they are ahead of apple. I am a fan of both platforms and i am not a fanboy of either of them. I think both have alot of good/bad things about them.
Lol yes, because restricting yourself to one set of hardware is better than having too many choices. Of all the fanboi(or fangirl whichever you prefer) arguments I’ve heard on the subject, from both sides, this might be the stupidest yet.
enjoy your 3G and tiny screen
i’ve never been so excited :D
Todays earlier specs rumors made me go: meh, its not bad, ill still get it.
THESE new Rumors (1.5GHz dual-core Exynos processor, 8MP cam, etc) make me go: OMFGYESSPLXZ0R!!!
So, just sign me up, im an auto buy guaranteed customer, and so is my wifey
Looks Razor ish ….noone caught that huh? Well with the rumors of the Droid Razor and all …kind of makes sense…no?
If it has 32 GB built in than do you really need Micro SD card. Or may be some people do….
I’m never going to BGR.com again!
Google stated it would have a Texas Instruments CPU didn’t they? Why would they have the Exynos? That’s totally backwards, wait until next week, this is getting annoying.
Actually they didn’t a leak was released before about them working together on ice creamsandwich that could mean anything.
I bet everyone at google, verizon, and samsung are laughing at how these sites go back and forth over specs. Have patience, we will all find out tuesday.
If those new specs are accurate I will pay anything Verizon asks for this phone.
damnnnn!!! way more powerful than I thought it would be in 1 year!
Quentyn and Phandroid, you need to stop confusing the Galaxy Nexus with the Nexus Prime. They are two different phones with different specs. The Galaxy Nexus is a Verizon exclusive and coming out months before the Nexus Prime comes out next year.
I’m going to go on a limb here and say the GSMArena specs are complete BS… if it’s too good to be true is usually is.
Plus both LTE and dual GSM radios, pfff dead give away. The specs by BGR seem reasonable and fit with some earlier rumors.
James …thats deep man. ..so deep you should have kept it to your self…
What a crazy day for rumors. Trying to keep my expectations reasonable until Tuesday is almost impossible. But…
I don’t trust BGR. At ALL. (They were even wrong about their beloved i*hone 5)
GSMArena? Not sure.. those specs sound too good to be true, so probably are (for VZW’s model anyway).
BUT, betting the only new technologies that Samsung will add to their phone since the SGS2 are an HD screen and LTE? No, I don’t think I’ll take that bet.. I think they have something up their sleeves.
Something doesn’t add up. Google made a big deal about the omap now its the Samsung chip?
It better have Exynos…This OMAP is weak…has the powerVR 540 which the 1st Galaxy S had…and it better have a microSD card..or else I am getting either the Note or Galaxy HD LTE
This would be the BEST case scenario.
