Samsung Bringing Dual Core Phones and Tablets at MWC 2011

19

You guys have been sick to your stomachs with Samsung’s apparent lack of interest in dual core processors – even if we know they’re whipping up one of their own. You had to guess Samsung wasn’t going to go too far into 2011 without a dual core announcement of their own: they’ve confirmed that they will be showing those particular wares off at Mobile World Congress going down in Barcelona, Spain February 14th-17th. Phandroid has already booked travel to Europe for that particular event so look forward to extensive coverage when the grand unveiling is made. [via Engadget]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. These phones will probably be what the Nexus S should have been.

I also hope and pray one goes to Sprint.

  2. It’s gonna be an interesting year.

  3. The only reason to buy a Samsung smartphone is when Google removes all their bumbling. The NS is actually a very good phone. Dual core no, but let’s be honest, is it necessary today? Not really. I agree, it would have been nice to have two cores but removing RFS, getting a working GPS and Gingerbread made it worth it for me. Coming from a POS vibrant. Only POS because of Samsungs complete ineptitude.

  4. i think samsung should get in contact with ATI and work in conjunction to create a cpu/gpu couple to compete against the NVidia Tegra2 chipset. these phones are becoming more and more like computers, so might as well bring the graphics card wars on over. nvidia already made the jump, i wonder how long it’ll take ATI to do the same.

  5. @Kevin:
Why would you go BACK to samsung after their poor support for the galaxy s line in the United States at least.

  6. Dual core year except for blackberry smartphone. Wait I said smartphone? No those blackberries are not smart anymore. Dual core year except for blackberry dummyphones.

  7. Samsung brings dual core blah blah blah. How about, Samsung brings froyo to its galaxy s phones in the US. I think that would be news worthy.

  8. @nemesys06

They have their own dual core chip. It’s called Orion.
Might use it on the Galaxy S2. I think they were working things out though an that’s why they have Tegra 2 themselves to hold for the moment. I hope something comes to sprint as well @Conrad

  9. No way would I buy a Samsung phone, especially if they use their own chip.

Here’s the reason why…. Samsung’s after sales support is the worst on the planet! They don’t update promptly and they won’t fix the GPS in their Galaxy S phones with broken GPS antennas! Shoot, they flat out lie … Remember the Behold II?

Now a reason Samsung might be having such a problem updating the OS in the Galaxy S might be because they are lazy and the Hummingbird CPU. Using their own ship, where no one else is might be causing them heartburn when it comes to programing around whatever funky extra codes it might use… Though I still think the real reason is Samsung is lazy and doesn’t care once the product is in the consumers hand.

  10. But will Samsung FINALLY put a vital piece or cheap but vital piece of hardware on there phones, LED Notification Light, PLEASE (but I doubt it, silly sammy)

  11. I hope they have some Orions out. Yea I know wishful thinking.
    .
Yea about Samsung and updating their software, I thought ppl were exaggerating about the no support thing. I did have an Omnia 1 on the Win Mo side. I didnt stick with it long enough to know if they ever updated it or not…lol.
    .
The Omnia 1 is the main reason I’m using Android now. (I should thank Samsung for that, cuz after 6 months with the Omnia 1 I ran to the Droid 1 with open arms.. yea my Omnia 1 didnt last 6 months….my Droid 1 is coming up on a year in April and still going strong)

  12. It will be hard for me to trust Samsung again.
So… I really hope HTC comes out with a 4.5″ screen superphone!

  13. I need your help to help me organize a consumer boycott of Samsung mobile products .until Samsung supports the mobile products that they presently have on the market we have to stop by their products . I’m enough talking about what you’re going to do and as long as we keep spending our money they’ll keep giving us the middle finger . The only thing Samsung understand are numbers and if we take those numbers away from them Ithey’ll know how upset we’ll . I will be posting this on every site that has any information about the Samsung products please help me to make them to stop not supporting their products

  14. well I think LG have won the race of dual core smartphones with Optimus 2X: http://www.jawal123.com/publicpages/details.aspx?id=1810199153&lang=en-us

but I belive that samsung have a grate things to show

  15. i can never go to a non super amoled screen again so till they start shipping them out to other companies i guess sammy will have to do thank god ofr the nexus S

  17. You would think that one of these companies would realize that there is a decent sized community that roots thier phones and/or wants a stock android experience. It would be amazing to have a stock android dual core instead of all these stupid skins. Performance and battery life wise stock makes so much more sense, they should put a launcher on it that alows you to load a custom skin like sense or motoblur if you want it but let it run stock if you dont.

  18. I’ll give WP7 one more chance if they impress at MWC 2011. I love the OS, but they really messed up on their hardware this year. If Sasmung can showcase a dual core phone that is similar to the Samsung Fascinate and Sasmung Omnia 7 in design, include a micro-SD card slot, and raise the RAM and include a larger battery, while still keeping it slim, I might get a WP7 phone. Also Microsoft needs to give an update to let us dissable 3G (data-plan) and just use Wifi. Especially with the recent reports of WP7 leaking data instead of using wi-fi. I rather just have a voice plan, and whenever I want data, I can use my own wi-fi for FREE. It’s faster and cheaper than a data plan ever will be. If not, and Microsoft, HTC, and Samsung Dissapoint again (like they just did at CES again), then Motorola Atrix here I come.
