Motorola Razr to ship with Perplexity AI assistant built-in

0

Motorola’s new Razr phones are about to get a fresh AI twist. According to Bloomberg, Motorola has struck a partnership deal with Perplexity, and its assistant will be available as a built-in option next week. That makes it the latest AI player to land a spot on a mainstream Android phone, right alongside Google’s Gemini.

Galaxy S25 Ultra deal

This Perplexity Motorola partnership marks a big win for the startup. While Motorola isn’t exactly dominating globally, it’s still a major player in the US market. Having Perplexity baked directly into the Razr 60 Ultra and its 2025 siblings gives the company a shot at something most AI startups lack—scale.

As for Samsung, that’s still in negotiation. Bloomberg reports that talks are ongoing, with the terms possibly involving either preloading the app or even offering it as a default assistant option. But that’s tricky—Samsung and Google have a pretty tight relationship. The two companies co-developed Wear OS and are collaborating on Android XR. Not to mention that Samsung is already pushing Gemini Live to Galaxy S25 users as its go-to AI experience.

This isn’t Perplexity’s first phone partnership either. Earlier this year, Nothing teamed up with the startup to bring AI features to the Phone 2a as it expanded into the US.

Right now, Motorola’s Razr phones come with a mix of Google’s Gemini and their own in-house AI. Perplexity will join that list as a preloaded assistant. No word yet on whether older Razr models will get updated with the feature.
