I’m hiking the Inca Trail to see Machu Picchu: what tech should I take along?

0

On Tuesday night I’ll embark on a journey to Peru with my brother and sister to hike the Inca Trail and see the wondrous Machu Picchu. The temptation to seek temporary mental freedom by completely unplugging is strong, but there is plenty of tech that takes this sentiment into consideration. When that careful balance is struck, technology can play a vital role in improving the overall enjoyment of any trip.

Here is my question to you: what tech should I take along?

  • I don’t want to influence the responses, so I won’t share my current packing list.
  • I fully intend to buy a number of items suggested on the list (if they’re good!)
  • I plan to report back with a full review

I’m looking for suggestions from all walks of the tech world. Any gear, accessories, gadgets, apps, smart clothing: anything really. This is an Android site so obviously I’m expecting some Android compatible suggestions, but I’m open to all your ideas. Absolutely anything.

Drones are now banned from Machu Picchu, which sucks for me, but all-in-all that’s probably a brilliant decision. Going to such a majestic place only to see mini helicopters traffic buzzing all around the sky would be a real… buzz kill.

Another question: would you enjoy more of these “personal” style posts on Phandroid that discuss or illustrate how our bloggers and editors are using technology in our daily lives, for better or worse?

Let us know in the comments! And stay tuned!

I'm an Android and Tech lover, but first and foremost I consider myself a creative thinker and entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for ideas of all sizes. I'm a sports lover who cheers for the Orange (College), Ravens (NFL), (Orioles), and Yankees (long story). I live in Baltimore and wear it on my sleeve, with an Under Armour logo. I also love traveling... where do you want to go?
