Report suggests Samsung is going ahead with iOS support for Gear S2

0

Earlier this year Samsung confirmed they were looking at the possibility of opening their Tizen-based Gear S2 smartwatch to iOS users, though they didn’t do much more than think about it. A new report suggests they have greenlit those plans, though, and are currently drawing up a plan to bring the support at some point in the near future.

The report comes from Vietnamese outlet SamsungViet, who says the company will create an iOS setup app and enable most of the same features Android users enjoy right now. The  only limitation would be the inability to use Samsung Pay, which requires a Samsung phone for security reasons.

Samsung showed they weren’t interested in continuing with their walled garden approach earlier in the year by allowing non-Samsung device owners to use the Gear S2, so adding an even bigger potential consumer base makes sense.
