LG G2 to get KitKat flavor in Q1 2014

We know that Edgar absolutely fell in love with the LG G2, and it offers a lot more than its little sibling, the Nexus 5. The important question, however, on most potential customers minds is when does the device get an Android 4.4 update? According to Court Elliot, a representative of the company who spoke with Mobile Syrup, the G2 should have the latest version of our favorite operating system by the end of Q1 2014, skipping Android 4.3 completely.

Count me a bit disappointed. With all carrier variants of the Moto X and the unlocked and developer editions of the HTC One already seeing an update, while the Galaxy S4 and the Note 3 having a target of January 2014, LG saying they potentially need four months more feels… slow. If it’s because of their horrendous skin, that only makes it worse for owners of the device.

  1. according to various sources online, the Korean G2 already has received the KitKat update

      2. I originally heard about it on GSMArena.

      1. why is this a question? of course. lol(imo)

  2. I don’t have the G2, but this doesn’t disappoint me at all. This is still much faster than things have been in the past. It seems to me that manufacturers across the boards have generally been quicker in the last year or so. The Moto X and the developer editions of phones don’t really count, in my opinion, being that they are kind of in a different hierarchy.

    1. Slower than my 3gs.

    2. I get that its better than the past, but I’m not talking about just the developer edition of the HTC One but also the unlocked version. Having said that, if the Koreans are already getting it, then maybe the statement was for the Canadian market.

  3. March 31st it is

  4. I think this is the schedule for carrier models, as the Korean is already getting it. And Samsung’s January estimate is probably for non carrier models. But we shall see.

  5. Fragmentation.

  6. Love my G2

  7. Never never gonna give nexus up, never never gonna give it up….. (Maybe for a GPe, or a Motorola)

  9. Running Gummy’s 4.4 ROM now. Couldn’t care less about the Nexus what?

  10. G2 skin is anything but horrendous. I find myself using the skin elements a lot, and liking how they are thought out. If it delays KK a few months, no big deal, this phone is a beast and runs like a champ with 4.2 on it.

One thing I would like to see changed, give us 180 degree rotation. If you’re going to put the earphone jack on the bottom, why only allow 90 degree screen rotation?

    1. Completely agree about the skin. I just went a solid 2 yrs with either CM or AOKP always on my device and I don’t find the G2 skin the slightest bit horrendous. I think it’s very well thought out and there’s a lot of customization built in. It also doesn’t bog down the phone at all. I was worried about timely updates when I first purchased the G2, but after using it a short while, I’m not in a hurry.

      1. My brother has the G2 and he’s always trying to compare it with my Note 3. I haven’t played with it much but it just seems like a bunch of ripped off features from the Galaxy line. Dat screen is gorgeous doe.

  11. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and I am waiting for a software update. I hope they will release a new one now. -http://www.skinboardpackaging.com/
