Android 4.4 KitKat will be released in October according to Nestle’s Kit Kat page

Android KitKat

We’ve seen the Nexus 5 in so many leaks, it’s becoming hard to keep count. From Google accidentally capturing the device in their KitKat reveal video, to uncovered FCC filings, and even the device getting pictured in a bar — where hasn’t the Nexus 5 popped up is probably a better question.

As far as release date and timing, there’s been rumors floating around the ‘nets that Google could be planning to unveil the Nexus 5 as early as October and with that, the next version of Android 4.4 KitKat in the process. Adding a little more fuel to this rumor is Nestle — who we all know has partnered with the Google for the naming of their next Android release — and according to their German Facebook page, they seem to be under the impression that Android 4.4 KitKat will be released in October.

Now, normally we wouldn’t place much clout in a confectionery maker’s claims to things technology in nature (especially a social media employee), but given Nestle’s new close relationship with Google, we’re definitely scratching our chins on this. Given that October is just around the corner, we imagine Google is getting prepared to send their press invites in which they’ll want to give attendees ample time to plan for the trip. Should be confirmed any day now.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. Gotta have my kit kat bar… I mean android phone!

    1. Kit Kat phone works, too:-)

  2. I like how they took a bite out of the Nexus 7 2nd Gen. Is it alright to call it 2nd Gen instead of 2013?

    1. It makes sense. That’s how appol does it for iPods and iPads

  3. Hmmmm, should I get the Note 3 or should I go with the new Nexus :-/

      1. Note 3 or Nexus 2013?… That is not even close to being a problem! It’s Nexus or nothing!

    1. If the new Nexus comes with the rumored SD 800, and it keeps it sub $400 price tag, it’s a no brainer… Nexus yo!

    2. I’ll break it down for you: more unique features, some of which you could want or some you won’t want(more potential for better features), better hardware, bigger screen, Note III.

Nexus 5 if you want the latest update, good hardware, the ability to go to many carriers, less features like Samsung, a weaker battery, experience of the pure android, and you are on a budget.

I would go Note III based off hardware. Software can always be replaced with AOSP roms or Cyanogenmod. I already have a Nexus 7 (2013) and the HTC One, so I am good with my devices for awhile.

      1. I’d argue against the better hardware part, especially if the Nexus 5 gets the SD 800. Just a better battery life and a bigger screen with S-Pen

        1. 3GB of RAM says hello.

      2. I believe you have answered my question. I am constantly modding and putting ROMs on my phone. And I can always go with cm aosp aokp or possibly paranoid and PACMan plus I have the option of touchwiz and all it’s features. Plus a 5.7in screen and large battery etc. Note 3 it is ;)

    3. Easy note 3…I’m on Verizon…

  4. Do we even know anything about what KitKat is bringing to the table?

    1. lol nope!! increased security, higher API levels…thats about it thus far

    2. Wafer and chocolate, good enough for me.

  5. Each nexus phone should come with a coupon for free KitKats

    1. Kit Kat bars should come with many silver tickets and a few hundred gold tickets like Willy Wonka. The silver tickets would be redeemable on Google Play for apps, music, videos, and whatnot. The gold tickets get you a Nexus 5 (and 7 and 10, maybe . . .)

  6. Uh, Kit Kat is made by Hershey not Nestlé.

    1. KitKats are definitely made by Nestlé.

      1. ie the picture at the top of the page…

      2. Unless you live in the USA. Then, Hershey makes them.

    2. Hershey distributes Kit Kat’s in the us for Nestle…

    3. I thought the same thing, posted on another thing about this, and got flamed to oblivion.

      1. As you should have. If people would just do a quick google before spouting off “the truth” they’d get made fun of much less.

        ;-)

    4. -_-

    5. In the US Hershey does KitKat in other places around the world it’s Nestle.

    6. Depends where you are in the world thanks to legalities.

    7. Herschey license the rights to the Kit Kat name from Nestlé in the US, but it’s Nestlé that owns the product.

  7. I hope they tie it in somehow with the Halloween candy rush…. I’ll be giving out kit kats this year

  8. To many leaks for it not to be announced in October. Most likely a late October or early/mi

  9. To many leaks for it not to be announced in Oct. Maybe a ear mid November release.

  10. For reference, the Nexus 4 LG-E960 hit FCC on October 5, 2012 and was officially announced October 29, 2012. The LG-D820 hit FCC on September 5, 2013, coincidentally exactly 1 month earlier? I wouldn’t be surprised if the Nexus 5 is announced by the end of this month…

    1. here’s to hoping this is true

      1. Not to add fuel to the fire or anything, but the LG-E960 got WiFi Alliance certification on October 29, 2012 whereas the LG-D820 got it September 16, 2013. Finally, the LG-E960 hit the Bluetooth SIG on September 21, 2012 whereas the LG-D821 hit September 5, 2013. Not all the timeframes are the same obviously, but they’re all significantly earlier this time…

        1. Yeah I am hoping it gets released sooner this year.

    2. Ok just did some math.

      October 5, 2012 to October 29, 2012 is 25 days and the 25th was a Monday.

Now add 25 days to September 5, 2013 and that makes it September 30th which is again a Monday.

      1. A teeny bit off… But here’s hoping it launches mid October tying to the original math.

        1. Oops I typed that too fast.

          October 29th 2012 was a Monday.
          September 30th 2013 is a Monday.

      2. Half-Life 3 confirmed?

    3. I’m hoping so. I want it for Christmas this year. Not new year’s eve. And without the crazy fight to get one.

    4. Yes, and the Nexus 4 went up for sale (i.e. crashed Google’s servers) on November 13th.

  12. that whole “leak” in the kitkat video was more than likely a carefully crafted marketing plot. lol

  13. I won a nexus 7 on the 9th via a multi pack of kitkats and will be delivered to me within 28 days , will it come with 4.4 i wonder ? Won £5 play credit the next day as well :-)

    1. Where did you find these fabled Kit Kat’s?!

      1. Supermarket in the UK :-)

        1. Haha, should have guessed when I saw £ but I was too excited to ask. I’m beginning to think we don’t have them anywhere here in the States. Good job on the winnings!

        2. Which supermarket mate? Haven’t spotted them myself yet.

          1. Sainsbury’s :-)

        3. I haven’t seen any in The States yet. :'(

  14. Who cares, Ill have iOS7 on my 5s!

    1. Bravo

    2. You’re pretty late because it dropped yesterday.

    3. And why are you here again?

      1. Just spreading the joy of a perfect platform

        1. Apple makes a nice product as I write this on my MBP (that my job purchased for me), I just loathe iTunes…..loathe….anyway, Android makes a nice platform and some devices are outstanding. Stop posting here just to be a hater, unless you’re in 2nd grade in which case I give you a free pass.

          1. Lol. I’m one of the biggest anti Apple Android fans. I agree, Apple makes nice devices and iTunes? *shrugs*. They are not for me.

-Sent from my Nexus 7 and Xperia ZR.

          2. I’m an authorized Apple service technician, and I’m not sure I’d agree that they “make a nice product”. Some of their design choices are infuriating, senseless, and anti-consumer. Making the keyboard part of the top-case and non-replaceable? Permanently-gluing the battery into the laptop so it can’t be replaced either? Making the mic and its delicate cable part of the main chassis in an iMac so if anything happens to it or the cable, you need to replace the entire chassis? Forcing all work on an iMac to involve an annoying process of removing the screen? It’s like having to remove your windshield to change the oil in your car.

          3. Not as bad as replacing the drive in a first gen white g3 macbook. What was it, 20-something screws before you could see the damn drive!

          4. Most of these apple trolls are just kids with iCrap that their parents bought them and just use it piss people off.

        2. It’s so perfect that mainly just catches up the competition nowadays, lol glad you’re happy with your Fisher price phone

    4. lol this guy

    5. WHO CARES YOU HAVE THE SAME shitty design

  15. Get on with it, my Samsung Exhibit II is getting slower and slower every freaking day! Can you believe I admit that on a public forum with my real name? Have I no shame?

    1. You are a brave man, my friend.

  16. If I start to see chocolate bars advertised on my device as a result of this hookup with nestle I’ll be buying a windows phone.

    1. That makes sense. Just go already.

  17. The photo of that Kit-Kat bar says “Nestle”. Last I checked Kit-Kat was made by Hershey’s –> http://www.hersheys.com/kitkat.aspx

    1. In America Hershey makes KitKat but in other countries Nestle does. I think Nestle owns them though and just let’s Hershey make them in America.

      1. Thanks Terry, I seriously had no idea! :-)

        1. Neither did I until all this KitKat stuff started – lol

      2. Essentially, Nestle bought the British company that created the KitKat, but it had already been licensed to Hershey in North America. Kind of like how Disney can’t make a Spider-Man or X-Men movie despite the fact that they own Marvel.

  18. Weird that google would support nestle. The owner of nestle is like the tea party leader and google’s owners as liberal as one can get.

  19. Time to move $350 to my debit card from saving brb

  20. Sweet ALMOST TIME and perfect for HALLOWEEN. time to start saving the the KITKAT BAR

  21. The question is when will the specially marked packages of kitkat be released? Has anyone found them, anywhere? I heard the UK has them but I haven’t found any here in the states.

    1. Yea they been showing up now

    2. Same here been up and down the East Coast recently and haven’t seen a single one, if they are in the US they are hiding.

  22. In 1969, Hershey received a license from Rowntree’s to manufacture and market Kit Kat and Rolo in the United States. As of September 2013, Hershey continued to make and market these brands in the U.S. under license from Nestlé, owners of the Rowntree brand.

  23. *slurps*

    “KitKat”…

  24. *dreams of chocolate* *sees “KitKat”* *opens packaging* *bites “KitKat* *munch* *munch*

  25. I want a nexus 5 in my candy bag XD
