LilyPad HD brings a floating instant messenger to Android tablets

4

Those of you looking for a new instant messaging client may want to consider what LilyPad is offering. It’s a floating instant messaging client that you can use on top of any other app. It’s not unlike Samsung’s mini apps they implement on TouchWiz ROMs for tablet.

The application shows a ton of promise, but we should note that it is in beta. You may run into issues, and Google Talk is the only protocol supported at this time.

We’re perplexed at the thought that users should have to pay for a beta, but you’ll have to fork up $1.50 to use it. At the least, be sure to keep your eye on the project as the team makes future developments, and let’s hope floating apps become all the rage in the very near future. [Google Play Store]

    1.  A lot us use more then just that single im protocol I use at least 3 different ones myself. Hopefully this allows us to sign into multiple accounts on a single protocol.

      1. it already does, check out the changlog on GPlay

  2. Great, a window on top of another window? For me, the novelty of this wore off soon after Windows 3.1 was released but each to their own.

Seriously, wasn’t it the intention of Android (and Windows Phone and iOS) to not have overlapping windows? This should not be a big deal, it should either be an established design principal or something that goes directly against design principals. The notification area is made for this sort of thing.
