Happy Holidroid Contest: Final Day and Christmas Edition

241

f you’re unsure what this whole “Holidroid Contest” thing is all about, be prepared to get excited. From November 24th through December 25th, Phandroid is giving away a Kindle Fire every single day along with other great prizes like the Galaxy Nexus Galaxy Tabs, JAMBOX, SmarTouch Gloves, Android Phones, Android T-Shirts, Seidio Vouchers and more. Read our announcement post for details.

Yesterday’s Winner

Yesterday was a random winner contest where we simply asked you guys to post what Christmas means to you. Damon M was the randomly selected winner. Congratulations!

We’re also announcing the winner for December 16th’s contest. We apologize that this took so long but complications on YouTube delayed our selection process. Our winner was YouTube user Superflyandcool because, simply put, having to take a tackle like that without football pads is rough even if it was staged. Congratulations!

As you might have known, today marks the last day of this great contest so you’ll want to get your game face on and turn it up to 11 as this is the last chance to win a Kindle Fire, a Galaxy Nexus and other great prizes. So what’s up for grabs today?

Amazon Kindle Fire

The Kindle Fire could be this holiday’s hottest product: at only $199 it’s not only one of the most  affordable Android tablets, it’s also one of the best. That’s a killer combination. With a beautiful UI, great battery life, carefully curated apps/games, and an amazing array of media options thanks to Amazon’s Digital Content Ecosystem… the Kindle Fire is a sure win. Good luck winning one in our contest, but at only $199 it’s probably worth buying one just in case!

Isotoner SmarTouch Gloves

Every single holiday season these SmarTouch smartphone gloves are consistently one of my favorite gift giving items. They eloquently solve one of the most fundamental problems a tech lover faces: using your device in cold weather. Wearing gloves usually prevents your touchscreen from working: take your phone out, take your glove off, use your phone, hand gets gold, shove phone in pocket, rush to get glove on. NO MORE! Isotoner’s SmarTouch gloves, designed in my colors and sizes for both men and women, has technology that passes the electrons your body gives off, through the gloves, onto the capacitive screen and allowing it to work. VOILA! Seriously. It works. Trust me. Try it… and you’ll love them forever.

Galaxy Nexus

HUGE props to Nikolay Ananiev, the developer of an app called Tiny Flashlight + LED, who donated 10 Samsung Galaxy Nexus for giveaway. His app has OVER 10 MILLION downloads and Nikolay contacted us asking for ways he could give back to the community as a way to say “thanks”. I’d say this is a success – gotta love that Android community spirit! Not to mention, Tiny Flashlight + LED is hands-down the best Flashlight app for Android. Download Tiny Flashlight, give it 5-stars of awesomeness, and check out Nikolay’s other great apps/games as well:Bebbled and Tiny Compass.

Seidio $30 Voucher

With so much smartphone use comes battery drain. Thankfully, Seidio makes some awesome extended batteries that fit many smartphones, allowing you to get longer battery life with the same device. No more toting around a charger everywhere you go: just snag a Seidio and call it a day! Seidio also makes cases, holsters, and other great accessories for your smartphones.Check them all out here.

ZeeMote Bluetooth Game Controller

The Zeemote Bluetooth Game Controller compacts things into one comfortable, ergonomically sound gaming package. You use one hand and the controller has an analog stick with four action buttons on it. It’s a bit reminiscent of a Nintendo Wiimote – makes you wonder where the name was inspired from. There are many games in the Android Market already compatible with the Zeemote, including the popular title R-Type, and you may even be able to use it with some of your emulators. It goes perfectly with many Android devices, from 3.2 inch phones to 10.1 inch tablets. And if you want the ultimate gaming experience, Zeemote + Phone/Tablet + TV + HDMI-out = awesome.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus

Everyone seems to be craving Samsung Android devices these days, and for good reason. Samsung makes some of the best hardware out there, coupled with great software integration, and the Galaxy Nexus (above) and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus are two great examples of Samsung’s industry leading products. These devices were sponsored directly by Samsung, thanking our readers and forum members for their excitement, interest, and support over the past year. With a 7-inch screen, 1.2GHz dual core processor, 1GB RAM, MicroSD slot, camera that records in 720p HD, and screen that displays in 1080p HD, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is a high end alternative to the Kindle Fire… and you can win BOTH in our contest!

JAMBOX

Ever wanted a small, portable speaker that plays music LOUD and CLEAR and isn’t a pain to setup? Let me introduce you to the Jawbone JAMBOX speaker. This bad boy packs a powerful bunch an extremely small frame, easily connects to your Android device via Bluetooth, and is an absolute pleasure to use. Bluetooth means you can stream not only music, but also games, apps, phone conversations, movies, and any other audio playing on your device! It also means no cords! Put it on your desk. Carry it to the kitchen. Bring it to the basketball court. Take it to your friend’s party. The Jawbone JAMBOX is a music lover’s dream device.

Andy Robot T-Shirts

True Android enthusiasts and tech lovers enjoy expressing their Android attitude and there is no better way to do so then with an Android Robot T-Shirt from the brilliant folks at iSteamAndy. They’ve created a series of artistic, creative Android Robot themed T-shirts with fun, rich imagery. They sell like hotcakes and have limited production runs so get each design while you still can. Some of their top designs (and ones we’re giving away) include:  Dark Night AndyiSteam Andy,  Flying AndyExploded Andy,  Andy Verus, and Unstoppable Andy.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  50. You have got to be f#$%ing kidding me!? That was the video that won the “why I should win” contest!? Phandroid, seriously, to lose to someone who actually put effort into their video is one thing but to wait a week to lose to this s#*t is ridiculous! On what planet was that the best video? Seriously!? The dude with the katana was better than that. The dude with the paper tablet was a million times better than that. Even the rap should have won over this. Mine was a heck of a lot better than that. I can’t believe I wasted my time participating in this contest and helping promote you guys. Seriously, I probably spent 2 hours a day on your site participating and crap like this gets the prize. I can honestly say that not a single one of your winning entries should have won other than the random draws (assuming that they were even random).

My guess for this contest is 7214 but it’s not like it will make an f#$%ing difference.

    1. I disagree 100% with their decision on this one, on a very serious note. But that being said, we don’t need to get dramatically heated over it. Effort and time doesn’t win, you catch the eye and you win.. at least we had the chance to participate. I’m upset but oh wells.

      1. I get what you’re saying but if time and effort wasn’t supposed to win then WTF was!? How at all did this video catch anyone’s eye??

        1. It was sarcasm and being literal at the same time based on how they judged and made their pick.

I put a lot of effort into my rap from producing the beat to writing and recording my lyrics.. The girl who went into the mall took a decent amount of time to do her entry as well.. It obviously wasn’t based on effort and time, just a quick pick. But there isn’t anything we can do.

          1. I’d wager that Phandroid lost a fair number of their long-time followers over decisions like this in the contest. So, I’d say that there is plenty that people can do about it. Phandroid’s success comes from whether they can maintain a dedicated following. There are tons of Android blogs out there. Judging by previous comments in other threads regarding the contest, I’m not the only one who feels gypped.

    2. Dude, cheer up. There were a lot of great video entries! I think it would have been a tough decision, and I’m sure everyone was looking for something different for what they thought was the best. I made a total ass of myself for mine, in a shopping mall, and THEN entered it for the wrong day. I was hella disappointed, but it was still a lot of fun. And it’s not like they HAVE to give away all this awesome shit. Sure it’s increasing their site traffic…but 31 days? They are going above and beyond for us. Good luck on tonight’s contest, tho. Oh, and you better go post that guess over in the Android Forum thread that they linked to FOR this contest, before it’s too late!

      1. That’s actually my point – there were a fair number of decent entries and they picked the crappiest one of the bunch. It seems really fishy to me that they pick pretty much the worst video out of them all (other than the kid who said he was going to give them to charity) and the account happens to have never been used before the contest. That seems pretty improbable. And I disagree with the fact that they were doing some sort of charity for their readers. The prizes were donated and it drove a ton of traffic their way. It is a nice thing for readers (assuming some actually won) but also a huge win for them. I love contests as much as the next guy and I appreciate websites that make them fair and achievable for everyone involved. I’m in the company of a ton of long-time readers who feel f#$%ed over in this contest.

I posted my number in the forum already. I was just making my point. Thanks for watching out for me tho.

BTW – I would have at least understood if yours won because you put some effort in to it.

    3. it was chosen randomly
      not as the best video

      1. That’s funny because that’s not at all what it says in either the contest rules for that day or in the description above. They chose it because “having to take a tackle like that is rough” or more likely because the kid is one of their little brothers…

        1. We don’t have to say — and usually don’t — when something is chosen randomly. You have no idea if it was or wasn’t but flipped out all the same.

We appreciate everyone participating and the point of these contests (especially when it comes to challenges) is just a fun way to get everyone involved.
We still had plenty of random challenges to keep everyone happy and we’re sorry you didn’t win but the nature of contests is that there can only be 1 winner (each day). Pretty slim odds..

And even though I didn’t even want to to respond to your comments on the contest being “rigged” I’ll say this. There’s no way ANYONE, on ANY SITE, EVER, can guarantee you that whatever contest they throw is not “rigged.”

I can tell you that the ecstatic emails we received from the grateful winners more than makes up for the sore losers.

          1. Actually…. you are wrong on plenty of counts here, Chris. First of all, you ARE required to tell us HOW and when a winner is chosen. There are laws regarding exactly that.

Second, 1 out of 19 entries in a contest isn’t bad odds at all, especially when most of the entries made very little, if any, effort.
Thirdly, it isn’t at all unreasonable for readers to expect to know whether a contest is rigged. Another Android website does random drawings which are live over webcast and each entrant had their own official ticket numbers. Random numbers are chosen by random number generators (which can be found all over the internet) live for all to see.
You can say that I’m a sore loser all you want, but the fact of the matter is you guys used a poorly thought up promotion to generate traffic (and income) to your site which was in no way fair to your readers.

          2. Your anger is misplaced and based off of nothing more than assumptions that are completely unfounded.

I can name 4 other sites off the top of my head that have thrown similar contests and were not done “live on air.”

The contest was completely legitimate and just because you don’t share the same opinion as us for the winners, doesn’t mean it was a scam. I’ve said this before — I honestly wish everyone could win but that’s the nature of a contest. There can only be 1. Sorry, sir.

          3. The only thing i know Chris is that the two kids on the video don look 18 years old. The full official rules clearly say you must be 18 or older to enter. But then again i don’t think the Phandroid team cares much about the rules. So here the team is at it again bending them at will. Happy Holidays and next year please try to abide by the rules you create and not bend them at will just because the team feels like it.

      1. lol…that was so funny…great reply…lol…damn it I cant stop laughing…thx for this…

  121. Anybody know who won the video challenge on the 16th?

  122. 693

  123. 65535

  124. You people are fucking dumbasses, you have to post your answer in the androidforums.com thread that was linked in the article, along with the instructions that say nothing about posting it here. Fucking morons.

    1. Yeah, but it wont help you much. You wont win. For SURE.

      1. FOR SURE because I didn’t bother entering the contest.

  125. I’m seriously amazed that phandroid selected that video to win. I just can’t believe it. It was an AWFUL, terrible, amateur, weak, lame, stupid fucking video. I’m glad that I did not waste my time submitting a video and feel really bad for those that did. There were SO many great submissions too. I like phandroid, but I can’t hold this back when I say you guys are complete fucking dumbasses. Seriously, did you just decide to select the worst video instead of the best video? This really pissed me off, and it shows the stupidity, immaturity, and unprofessionalism of phandroid.com. Like another commenter said, there are other android sites out there, so I’ll visit them instead. You guys should redo that contest and make it judged by the readers to determine who had the best video. Totally unacceptable.

    1. I agree 100%.

    2. Butt hurt much?

  126. 1225

  127. 7777

  128. 7777

  129. 1 it has to be one, its the first number, please God let me win. So I can donate some of these wonderful gifts to a.family in need.

  130. Why none of you dumbasses read the rules? The contest ended at 11:59pm yesterday and you’re supposed to post the answer in the forums :P

  131. 8213

  132. my guess 12,345

  133. 5,780 worth a shot :)

  134. A lot of sore losers here. Unfortunate that you guys can’t just have fun with it and be happy for the folks that win. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you Phandroid for giving me a chance at all those awesome prizes.

  135. 4765

  136. Who won? The answer was 11, because in the post it said “get your game faces on and turn it up to 11” so we just need a confirmed winner now..or if all the people who guessed right get it?! #PLEASE ;)

    1. i’ll be shocked if that was the winning number. Turn it up to 11 is a cliche. Started with the movie Spinal Tap.

  137. Like Chris Chavez said there can only be one winner so congratulations to all 30 winners of the Phandroid Holidroid Contest my guess for yesterday was 30 I posted it on android forumsi wonder who won & how close my guess was

  138. 7,253  :)

  145. DId i miss this anouncement of who the winner was to this one?

  146. Yea, who won and what was the number. I really wanna know how close I was (even though I posted too late) :)
