Happy Holidroid Contest: Video Challenge

60

If you’re unsure what this whole “Holidroid Contest” thing is all about, be prepared to get excited. From November 24th through December 25th, Phandroid is giving away a Kindle Fire every single day along with other great prizes like the Galaxy Nexus Galaxy Tabs, JAMBOX, SmarTouch Gloves, Android Phones, Android T-Shirts, Seidio Vouchers and more. Read our announcement post for details.

Yesterday’s Winner

Yesterday was Galaxy Nexus day and to celebrate we had you guys submit captions for a photo of a nice-sized line outside of a Boston Verizon store.  Brad Myers was our winner with the following caption:

“Geeez.. everyone’s wearing black!” …
“Yeah.. this is not only the line for the Nexus, it’s also the line for the iPhone funeral”

Congrats to Brad for winning all of yesterday’s great prizes. What’s that, you say? What’s up for grabs today? Let’s take a look…

Amazon Kindle Fire

The Kindle Fire could be this holiday’s hottest product: at only $199 it’s not only one of the most  affordable Android tablets, it’s also one of the best. That’s a killer combination. With a beautiful UI, great battery life, carefully curated apps/games, and an amazing array of media options thanks to Amazon’s Digital Content Ecosystem… the Kindle Fire is a sure win. Good luck winning one in our contest, but at only $199 it’s probably worth buying one just in case!

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus

Everyone seems to be craving Samsung Android devices these days, and for good reason. Samsung makes some of the best hardware out there, coupled with great software integration, and the Galaxy Nexus (above) and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus are two great examples of Samsung’s industry leading products. These devices were sponsored directly by Samsung, thanking our readers and forum members for their excitement, interest, and support over the past year. With a 7-inch screen, 1.2GHz dual core processor, 1GB RAM, MicroSD slot, camera that records in 720p HD, and screen that displays in 1080p HD, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is a high end alternative to the Kindle Fire… and you can win BOTH in our contest!

Isotoner SmarTouch Gloves

Every single holiday season these SmarTouch smartphone gloves are consistently one of my favorite gift giving items. They eloquently solve one of the most fundamental problems a tech lover faces: using your device in cold weather. Wearing gloves usually prevents your touchscreen from working: take your phone out, take your glove off, use your phone, hand gets gold, shove phone in pocket, rush to get glove on. NO MORE! Isotoner’s SmarTouch gloves, designed in my colors and sizes for both men and women, has technology that passes the electrons your body gives off, through the gloves, onto the capacitive screen and allowing it to work. VOILA! Seriously. It works. Trust me. Try it… and you’ll love them forever.

Andy Robot T-Shirt

True Android enthusiasts and tech lovers enjoy expressing their Android attitude and there is no better way to do so then with an Android Robot T-Shirt from the brilliant folks at iSteamAndy. They’ve created a series of artistic, creative Android Robot themed T-shirts with fun, rich imagery. They sell like hotcakes and have limited production runs so get each design while you still can. Some of their top designs (and ones we’re giving away) include: Dark Night AndyiSteam Andy,Flying AndyExploded AndyAndy Verus, and Unstoppable Andy. Check out

Seidio $30 Voucher

With so much smartphone use comes battery drain. Thankfully, Seidio makes some awesome extended batteries that fit many smartphones, allowing you to get longer battery life with the same device. No more toting around a charger everywhere you go: just snag a Seidio and call it a day! Seidio also makes cases, holsters, and other great accessories for your smartphones.Check them all out here.

ZeeMote Bluetooth Game Controller

The Zeemote Bluetooth Game Controller compacts things into one comfortable, ergonomically sound gaming package. You use one hand and the controller has an analog stick with four action buttons on it. It’s a bit reminiscent of a Nintendo Wiimote – makes you wonder where the name was inspired from. There are many games in the Android Market already compatible with the Zeemote, including the popular title R-Type, and you may even be able to use it with some of your emulators. It goes perfectly with many Android devices, from 3.2 inch phones to 10.1 inch tablets. And if you want the ultimate gaming experience, Zeemote + Phone/Tablet + TV + HDMI-out = awesome.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Quentyn:
    Your glasses are crooked.

    1. I know, I need to get the right bar centered. Just haven’t had time to go get them fixed.

      1. could you accept the video replies so we can all see them :) thanks

    2. No no no…  his glasses are straight, his eyes are crooked.  :-P

      1. Lol I’d rather the glasses be crooked than my eyes =X

  2. Already got my Nexus. Dont need to win anymore :)

  3. Hey guys, one thing we need to remember is that just because you or I don’t think something is funny doesn’t mean we are right. Congrats to Brad on your win!!! I am jealous.

    1. But Chad it is not just one or two that think these captions are not funny it is the majority. So I say we are right. I also think this comment will be deleted shortly.

      1. I thought it was a great caption…..so do some of the people I’ve talked to…..so what makes you think the majority don’t like it?  Quit whining!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        1. Daniel you have chimed in after all the comments were deleted that did not find it funny. And please tell me the people you have talked to and how many would that be? You do not have to agree with me but I have a right to my opinion.

          1. While I think there were probably funnier captions, the winner was humorous in his own right; congrats Brad.
The reason it seems like the majority didn’t find the comment funny is because those are the only people who are likely to post.  Most people
will just read and laugh, not post a comment indicating they thought it
was funny.  Losers on the other hand, want to whine and complain that it
isn’t funny and how the contests suck.
Phandroid doesn’t have to do the contest, be happy we even have a
chance to win some of the awesome prizes they are offering.
            Thanks Phandroid team!

          2. Hey! I’m not a professional writer after all.. Just a geek trying to win.  There were a lot of really good comments left!

          3. You did a fine job sir. Again, congrats on your victory!!!!

      2. Nope. Your comment is still here. =p

  4. Does anyone else notice missing comments?

    1. Yes they are censoring us.

      1. Was what I said so damaging that it warranted being deleted? I’m fascinated…

        1. Hi Jon, I’ve responded to your email. Thanks!

          -Quentyn

          1. Thanks Quentyn! Totally understood!

  5. Ive disagreed with ones in the past but I think they finally chose a good one… just my 2c

    1. Thanks Bryan.. Appreciate that!

  6. Not trying anymore…..

  7. Damn school -_-

  8. Congratz Brad .. I found it amusing. And legit enough to find printed in any magazine/newspaper imho.

      1. yours stood out to me, and another about the guy practicing his screen unlock face.  both were good.  congrats Brad.

  9. This picture sums up a silly video I would have made.

  10. No Richard Marx fans at Phandroid, huh?

    1. Where ever you go.. whatever you do…….

      1. Did you miss it in the contest comments, Chris?

So much better than the silly iPhone funeral comments! Especially since there were nine or ten of them.

As Gob would say… “Come on!!!”

  11. “You know a sense of humor is exactly that — a sense. Not a fact,
not etched in stone, not an empirical math equation, but just what
the word intones — a sense of what you find funny.”

    —-Dennis Miller

I’m not sure what was deleted but whatever it was probably deserved to be deleted. Ungrateful pissants.

    1. …Dennis Miller isn’t funny.

  12. Video Is up

  13. This is retarded and by far the dumbest contest yet. We are suppose to make a video explaining why we think we should win? How do you expect people to expand on that? “I think I should win because, uh, I really want the prizes.” No shit.

This contest lacks basis. All previous contest were actually based on Android. This is based on what, who can beg the prettiest?

    1. Creativity. It’s simple. =)

      1. So again, who can beg the prettiest.

    2. I prefer these over the “first to post” ones. At least everyone has a chance to win.

    3. Maybe you should make a video of yourself whining about the contest.  Then take off your diaper and put it on your head, and do a little dance.  That might just win!

      1. Whining contestants never win. Are you a fool perhaps?

  14. How do we know if our video response worked on Youtube? It showed me a page that said it was successful but I could see anywhere in my video that says it is a video response to yours… help!? Here’s the link: http://youtu.be/Ss71jI-dUUI

    1. Cute, except for the dancing at the end – not cool dude. :P

      1. Luckily my wife married me for my good looks, not my dance skills ;)

  15. Hopefully it went through properly i did the create a video response and uploaded it there and it said it uploaded but i dont see any video responses just incase it uploaded for some reason wrong heres the video again…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riX2VMpXC70&feature=youtu.be

  16. Just entered!  It’s short and to the point.  Guess we’ll see.

  17. Had mouth ulcer can’t speak much :( Decided using papers to express my thoughts…

      1. :) thanks

        (fingers crossed)

  22. My video is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCJcukqPdRU. Good luck to all applicants!

  23. I posted the video into the response and had an issue with before the time limit, I don’t know if you can check my video time before it was in the response area, but I don’t know if that will affect my submission.

  24. Okay I think I posted on the wrong section, but I just want to clarify on my submission, it had a issue with video response action, but I did have the video uploaded before the competition was over, so I don’t know if that will affect my submission.

  25. Any update on the winner if this?

  26. Whos the winner

  27. I’d love to know a winner on this…
