Happy Holidroid Contest: Evening Trivia

71

If you’re unsure what this whole “Holidroid Contest” thing is all about, be prepared to get excited. From November 24th through December 25th, Phandroid is giving away a Kindle Fire every single day along with other great prizes like the Galaxy Nexus Galaxy Tabs, JAMBOX, SmarTouch Gloves, Android Phones, Android T-Shirts, Seidio Vouchers and more. Read our announcement post for details.

Yesterday’s Winner

Yesterday we asked you to submit a 1-minute review for your favorite game or app. We’re still busy sorting through all the entries, but rest assured a winner will be announced shortly. In the mean time we have a few other prizes to sink your teeth into. You’re going to need an Android Forums account to enter today’s challenge, so it is suggested you head over and sign up for one of those right away. Here is a look at what could be stuffing your stocking this holiday:

Amazon Kindle Fire

The Kindle Fire could be this holiday’s hottest product: at only $199 it’s not only one of the most  affordable Android tablets, it’s also one of the best. That’s a killer combination. With a beautiful UI, great battery life, carefully curated apps/games, and an amazing array of media options thanks to Amazon’s Digital Content Ecosystem… the Kindle Fire is a sure win. Good luck winning one in our contest, but at only $199 it’s probably worth buying one just in case!

HTC EVO Design 4G

A stylish 4G smartphone, the HTC EVO Design 4G brings you the power of their popular line of EVO devices on Sprint’s WiMAX network. Sporting a 4-inch qHD display, a 1.2GHz processor, and HTC’s Sense UI the EVO Design is the complete package. A special shout out to Radio Shack for providing this great device for our giveaway. If you don’t take home the prize be sure to check out their great selection of smartphones online and in-store.

Isotoner SmarTouch Gloves

Every single holiday season these SmarTouch smartphone gloves are consistently one of my favorite gift giving items. They eloquently solve one of the most fundamental problems a tech lover faces: using your device in cold weather. Wearing gloves usually prevents your touchscreen from working: take your phone out, take your glove off, use your phone, hand gets gold, shove phone in pocket, rush to get glove on. NO MORE! Isotoner’s SmarTouch gloves, designed in my colors and sizes for both men and women, has technology that passes the electrons your body gives off, through the gloves, onto the capacitive screen and allowing it to work. VOILA! Seriously. It works. Trust me. Try it… and you’ll love them forever.

Seidio $30 Voucher

With so much smartphone use comes battery drain. Thankfully, Seidio makes some awesome extended batteries that fit many smartphones, allowing you to get longer battery life with the same device. No more toting around a charger everywhere you go: just snag a Seidio and call it a day! Seidio also makes cases, holsters, and other great accessories for your smartphones.Check them all out here.

Today’s Contest Rules/Regulations:

Can you answer the following Phandroid trivia question the fastest?

In my first post for Phandroid I detailed my then current favorite Android apps. Can you name all five?

Looking for a great gift? Don’t forget about our Holiday Gift Guide!

Tomorrow’s Contest:

We’ll be giving away a Kindle Fire, Smartouch Gloves, $30 Seidio Voucher, and a Samsung Infuse 4G! Tomorrow will be more normal, less wacky, but still require the use of your creative juices. You never know when we’ll make our contest post so check back early and often!

  21. I hate these “first to post” contests. Pretty much rules out anyone (me) who have other things to do with their day…

    1. Then again, the “first” contests reward those who are Phandroid-addicts or others who may not feel as comfortable with the other contests. I think Phandroid is doing an awesome thing in offering so many different types of contests. It’s really fun!

      1. Why do you have to be an “addict” to win? Phandroid is the only Android site I follow. Shouldn’t I be rewarded for my loyalty?

      2. I think it should be done more as a radom entry that qualifies like saying favorite app or preferred method of protecting your devices. That way it doesn’t require going through and doing silly pictures or odd reviews, but it’s equal chance spent to win for those who are not creative. Oh well, I will just have to keep hoping there wis be some way for me to win with all the people with fast computers and super fast internet.

    2. i’m with you

    3. agreed. these first to do anything contests are retarded. i work night shift, so i barely get a chance as it is.

      1. I feel you. I’m in medical school studying for finals. So these contests pretty much screw me over every time despite the fact that I’ve followed Phandroid since the beginning. With $250,000 in student loan debt, this is pretty much the only chance I’ll get in the next several years to own any of these yet they are given away to the people who are sitting around with nothing else to do. I appreciate the free stuff too but it’d be nice if it was distributed more fairly instead of to the people who refresh the site every 10 seconds throughout the day.

        1. If you have $250k in student loans then what’s $500 extra for a tablet.  Then again if you have a tablet will that get in the way of your school?  Maybe you should’t win a tablet, since you will be the kinda person who will try to blame Phandroid for not having high enough grades due to the lack of studying.

          1. Student loans pay for school, not tablets… Some of us don’t live in our mom’s house and actually have to do something for the things we have. But maybe I’ll follow your advice and have my kids not eat for a month so I can get a tablet. Awesome idea. If you got off your high horse you’d realize that I didn’t say anything about blaming Phandroid for anything. It’s wonderful that people are able to win stuff. I just said it’d be nice if the contests were more fair.

          2. Except the contests are fair. There are random contests for luck, creative contests for creative people, first post contest for those who are able to be online at home/work/etc., and other contests which have yet to be announced.

          3. Okay, maybe ‘fair’ isn’t the right word. Let me restate: It would be nice if the contests were designed so that everyone had an equal chance to win/participate.

    4. Then do the other contests they hold as well? They have random drawings, best caption, etc. There’s a contest for everyone. You think the creative contests are easy for people who just aren’t creative?

  30. MiKandi app market? J/K

  31. When is the winner from yesterday going to be announced?

  32. Yeah, You did detailed your apps but you never detailed the current favourite Android  app….

  33. c’mon, Phandroid, I like you guys but this “first” rule is flawed. Not every Phandroid reader has the luxury to follow your site 24/7. It’s not really fair for those of us who can’t be on the browser all day at work.

  34. Swype, Google Voice, Wapedia, SportsTap, and CardioTrainer.

    1. Ooops….I realized right after I submitted that this was the wrong place to post…

  35. Ya even though the speed contests bug me personally I think they’re doing a FANTASTIC job in keeping the contests mixed up and different. Something for everyone just not everytime. :)

  36. Eh its the weekend. Do you like working on the weekend? This contest is short and sweet for them.

  37. Swype, Google Voice, Wapedia, SportsTap, CardioTrainer…http://phandroid.com/2010/04/07/kevin-signing-in-with-top-5-android-apps/

    1. how did you find it so quick?

      1. Just went back to the past of phandroid xP but I think I wasnt fast enough to be the 1st one :/ But I think I WAS the 1st one to link to the post ;)

  38. Swype, Google Voice, Wapedia, SportsTap, and CardioTrainer.

  39. Did you not read the rules? You don’t post the answer here you have to post it on the thread link in the instructions all of these comments don’t count you all fail. Read the instructions folks.

  40. You guys have got to read the instructions….

  41. chrisfsullivan @ g-lov’in mail….ugh… try to be fast and post in the wrong place… oh well, It would have helped if I saw it when it first posted…

    Swype
One thing I cannot stand is software keyboards. I’ve yet to come across one software tap-to-type keyboard I consider usable, and sadly I have the same feeling’s towards my Droid’s slide-out hardware version. Swype’s innovative method of entering text through the use of swiping across words rather than typing is so genius partly due to the fact that it is the obvious solution to the shortcomings of other touch screen input methods. Quick, accurate, efficient. What’s not to love?
    Google Voice
Finally, I can check my voicemail in places where I really shouldn’t be using a phone — like movie theaters — without even having to be conspicuous about it. Google’s speech to text translation is far from perfect, but it usually gets the job done. Having all of my messages organized visually with much of the same functionality as GMail? Heaven sent.

    Wapedia
I’m a Wikipedia junkie, and Wapedia just might be my crack. It allows me to untether myself from my computer and take my addiction to impulse research everywhere I go. It’s great for those moments when I just can’t go on without knowing Malawi’s gross income from exports or the habitat range of the Iberian ibex. The simple, clean interface and access to all of the top wiki sites aren’t making this habit any easier to quit.
    SportsTap
Baseball season has commenced, and with 30 teams each playing 162 games you’d have to be Rain Man to keep up. Or you could simply have SportsTap, an awesome app for tracking game scores in real time. You can even set up notifications for your favorite teams, and all major sports and leagues are covered. Pretty nifty stuff.
CardioTrainerTraining for long distance runs can be a real hassle. Tracking routes and pace, keeping time, and calculating mileage can start to become a daunting task, but CardioTrainer makes it pretty simple. While the GPS tracking can be hit or miss at times, it has become an essential tool in monitoring my progress over time as I work up to my first marathon.

  42. Swype, Google Voice, Wapedia, SportsTap, and CardioTrainer!!

  43. Swype, Google Voice, Wapedia, SportsTap, CardioTrainer.

  44. For those of you complaining about the rules, take a nerd break and relax. everything doesn’t have to be so structered and “fair”. This is their site, their contest, their rules. None of you are entitled to anything. They represent more than your timezone. this is fun, erratic and spontaneous…enjoy it

    1. Of course they don’t HAVE to do anything. But, if they want to keep their readers happy, they might want to consider doing things that benefit more than the handful of people who stay on the site 24/7.

    2. It’s crazy how some people complain about a chance to win free items.  the same people will complain about free food they recieve, it’s not hot enough or why did you get this instead of that.

  45. I’m guessing I’m not the first response.

  46. this isn’t so much “trivia” as “research” … trivia would be if the post were no longer available anywhere and someone actually remembered what you posted… just sayin’

  47. So How do I claim my prize?

  48. How do I claim my prize

  49. Soooo….. who won the app review challenge from Friday? Hmmmm?

  50. I think they are doing a good job with this contest. Some days it’s hard since they have the 1st person to do something wins and then some days they choose a random winner. Most of us have a life and we work or go to school fulltime. It’s nice haveing the andriod app, it gives us the chance to check in a few times a day to see what is going on. Phandroid you guys are doing a great job, thank you.

  51. I <3 Phandroid for everything Android!!
