Plan B – Apps that help you locate your phone are great and all, but only if you had the foresight to install one on your handset before you have lost it. That’s not a problem with Plan B, a new app from Lookout that takes advantage of the Android Market website’s ability to push app installs to your Android device. Simple click install and the app will be sent to your lost phone, launch automatically, and fire off an email reporting its whereabouts. You can track it further by sending a text message to the handset. Really smart app with a clever name, and it won’t cost you a dime. [Market]
Brick Bow – Through a combination of quirky, Minecraft-like graphics and simple “brick shooting puzzle mechanics,” Brick Bow creates an addictive and fun gameplay experience. As the name implies, using your bow you shoot arrows at bricks, creating combos that reward you with power-ups and coinage. A variety of play modes include Brick A Mole and Coin Wave, as well as an endless mode to test your survival skills. Bonus points for the catchy chiptunes soundtrack. [Market]
Defense Craft – What do you get when you mix together tower defense gameplay, flavor it with some real time strategy, and sprinkle in a taste of RPG elements? Defense Craft, a game that will surely fill the fantasies of any player with a fondness of the aforementioned genres. Large maps and numerous monsters up the ante when it comes to building and defending your units. Defense Craft is not without its faults, but it shows promise for the large challenge it takes on. does plan b turn on gps as well just in case it is turned off? i often have it off. and what if you can’t get a gps fix? sounds like an excellent app in theory
Well, you would have network triangulation as well I’d assume. The accuracy would be less, within 200 meters as opposed to the average within 5-10 of GPS. But really, if you can get it that close, you can probably run it down pretty close to where you either lost it or it was stolen. In the case of it being stolen I would just assume to remote wipe and shut down the sim. Filing a police report won’t do much good in my opinion unless you absolutely know who stole it and can prove it. The cops don’t stress themselves over a stolen smartphone.
just install seekdroid. its seems like it would be cooler. it will show your location on a map, approximate it if gps is off..
99cent but the best evarrrrr
I know this girl who gets Plan B every weekend….. and I’m not talking about the app o_O
Call me dense, but I did just have brain surgery. lol Plan B wouldn’t be an app you install before losing your phone but after? Essentially, from the web marketplace?
my brother lost his phone without any phone locating apps installed on it (he has no foresight) so we tried plan b. worked great! pushed the app to his lost phone, didnt have to have anything installed before hand. it turned on his gps, sent emails to his gmail every 5 minutes, each with increasingly accurate locations. finally, we got the phone pinpointed to within 2 meters, no joke. and the best part is, if your phone doesnt have gps, or plan b cant turn it on, the app will essentially ping your phone with SMS repeatedly to help triangulate where it is based on the cell towers. way cool app and definitely recommended in a pinch.
