Samsung Moment Video and Pictures

18

In case you haven’t yet noticed the Samsung InstinctQ is no more. That’s because Sprint just announced it with a new name intact – the Samsung Moment – and published the following video to show it off:

The “first impression” reviews from around the web indicate a strong liking for the physical QWERTY keyboard and note an impressively colorful display with the AMOLED screen. The optical D-Pad and Home/Menu/Back button are a new twist for Android and we’ll see how they fare in due time.

The folks at MobileCrunch and Engadget got some great pictures of the Samsung Moment some of which we’re sharing below – hit up their respective sites for more!

I don’t know about you guys… but I can’t wait to get my hands on this thing!

  1. In the video I saw the old market. Does this come with 1.6?

  2. curse them and their theminess. except for the camera, im liking what i see here better than the sholes. i really want to know if this, or the STD is a world phone though.

    1) sholes, decent phone, skyhigh prices, reliable network with google now partnering

    2) moment, better looking hardware, faster processor, $50(aprox) for unlimited everything after the corporate discount from my job. uncertain network reliability.

i wish i could get the moment phone on the verizon network at the sprint price. curse them all.

  3. Why is that dude so cheesey?

It comes with ANdroid 1.5 .. apparently 1.6 will be available in 2010

  4. @John You do know that even though the sholes looks like it has a slower processor, it has a different processor than every android phone so far. It’s guessed that it will have double the performance of any android phone out.

Here’s some specs.(this should be taken with a grain of salt)

  5. i have android 1.6///got it OTA

  6. Looks great, BUT … Cupcake build? No OTA updates? No Donut until 2010? What year is this again? Ridiculous.

  7. The animatronic puppet showing off that phone is so life-like. Sprint must really be pulling out all the stops for the Moment.

  8. In one of the videos, I heard that its running 1.5 right now, but on release it will run 1.6.

  9. I got 1.6 OTA update in my myTouch phone couple of days back. So that should not be a problem.

  10. @ 2 john
    .
arm 1176 clocked at 800mhz or cortex a8 ? Would make little sense to include the latter with only a 3,2 inch 320×480 screen.
i will pass and wait for the moto STD.

  11. The more I learn, the less impressed I am about this phone. I think I’ll just go with the Hero, with all the hype surrounding it I’m sure there going to be plenty of mods available.

  12. @Tozlink

    haaaaahahaa

  13. What I think, they mean is that it will not be pre-loaded until 2010.
The first shipment of this device was built probably within the last 6 months, plenty of time for cupcake, but not quite enough for Donut to be done and pre-loaded.

  14. @ john
FYI i posted here the probable mips performances of both processors:

  15. The processor that the Sholes/Tao/Droid has is the same exact processor in the iPhone 3GS/OmniaHD/N900. It’s very powerful indeed. To me the Moment’s processor has no match to the Droid b/c it also has its own dedicated graphics chip. That phone is going to be a BEAST. The Hero is currently the best phone running Android but when that Droid comes out, it’s game over for the Hero. Unfortunately the Droid will run only on Verizon’s network. Great for them but sad for us. That phone is not exclusive to Verizon though, so that’s a good thing to know. Only the future knows what’ll happen with that phone. Hopefully it gets produced to the masses and Sprint gets it as well. It’ll be welcomed home with open arms.

  16. One more thing. Currently 1.6 isn’t downloadable via OTA. Sprint has said that they have a 10MB cap in their OTA downlink system. The reason they don’t offer a OTA for Donut is because supposedly its a 40-50MB download and the phone will be inoperable for 10+ minutes. The way Sprint sees it is that they do not want their customers to not have a phone that isn’t usable for more than 10 min. That’s their reason for not doing OTA for Donut.
Here’s a link to where i got my information from :

  17. Sprint blew it. They had an opportunity to sieze the moment and squandered it. Instead of leading the market with android and ala carte pricing they opted to be an Apple/AT&T follower instead. What they did is knife the consumer by offering the same stupid bundled pricing that Apple/AT&T have with no tethering. So if you are consumer would you buy an Android which is new and has less horsepower and apps for $10 less than an iPhone ?? NOT. Sprint should fire their marketing department and hire people to listen to their customers first.

  18. i have a samsung moment
i uploaded my old picture and videos
but i can only see the video not hear it can anyone help me??please thank you
