DROID Turbo 2’s shatter-proof display and over 1,000 Moto Maker combinations confirmed

Some new marketing materials for Verizon’s forthcoming DROID phones have leaked out ahead of an expected October 27th announcement. Those phones are the Motorola DROID Turbo 2 and Motorola DROID MAXX 2.

The former is going to be advertised as having “the world’s first shatterproof screen.” That’s a detail we’ve heard before, so that isn’t surprising. We’re not sure how the display can tout such a feat just yet, but there’s no reason not to take Verizon and Motorola’s word for it (especially because we know flexible display technology exists).

The marketing materials also confirm that the DROID Turbo 2 can be customized through Moto Maker with over 1,000 possible combinations of colors and materials. We weren’t sure how expansive its Moto Maker support would be when we heard about it in previous rumors, but 1,000 combinations sounds pretty damn good to us.

As for the DROID MAXX 2, it’s everything we already know — it’s a rebranded Moto X Play with a massive 3,430mAh battery, enough for 48 hours of typical usage. It’ll also have swappable backplates for those who like that sort of stuff, though it doesn’t sound like it’ll get the same level of Moto Maker love as the DROID Turbo 2.

Oh, and one last cool detail: Verizon is offering up to $300 when trading in your old smartphone to grab one of these new DROID devices. There’s a chance you’ll get less, but if you have a top-line recent smartphone in good shape we reckon you’ll be close to getting that full $300, so be sure to take care of it between now and the time the device is available to purchase.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.
