RealPlayer for Android exits beta with both free and paid versions

18

RealPlayer is rolling their Android app, which has been out for a while now, out of beta today, offering both a free and an enhanced paid version of the app to those eager to relive the nostalgia of using RealPlayer’s bloated software on their PCs in the late 90s and early 2000s. To be fair, RealPlayer has done a lot better with their Android app. The free version offers users all the basics such as playlists, lockscreen controls, and a playback widget, while a $5 in-app upgrade unlocks a visual EQ, cross fading, and extended metadata features. If you want to give the classic media player a spin in it’s updated mobile version, head over to Google Play now.

  1. I was wondering what the point of the software was after reading the headline, then saw that the writer agreed:
“…those eager to relive the nostalgia of using RealPlayer’s bloated software on their PCs in the late 90s and early 2000s.”

  2. KILL IT WITH FIRE.

    1. Then bury it deep

  3. This was impossible to uninstall off a computer a decade ago, why would I put it on my phone?!

  4. Ugh, no thank you. I have enough bad memories of this on my PC from back in the day. RealPlayer needs to die already.

  5. lol, RealPlayer is still a thing?

  6. This sounds terrible lol, I do not know much about this media player but the few experiences I have are not good.

Does anyone know of a decent media player? I’m interested in loading all sort of video/audio files from my computer onto my phone for mobile use. Problem is that they are many different formats and VLC player for android is now out yet.

One of the key things I need is to be able to play many different type of formats.

    1. For all things audio, I use PowerAmp. For video, VLC because it is out if you look around. Check XDA my friend. Or use XBMC. Or DicePlayer. Or….

    2. MX Player will play most formats no problems I have honestly not ran into any formats that it can not play but6 I have run into files that lag on my dualcore nook tablet tho lol. mainly high profile 720p and 1080p videos are what lag on my dualcore device. I mainly stream videos over my network at home via dlna server on my pc.

      1. hp 720p and 1080p require hardware decoding or quadcore to run smooth.
though you can get close if you can overclock your cpu(1080p almost runs smooth on my LG O2X at 1.4ghz)

        1. lol I am well aware that they dont run all that well on my dualcore device that is why I stay clear of making them I normally go for mp or lp 720p or lower if I am dealing with dvd only anime.

    3. I use Dice Player. It’s the only one that plays subtitled mkv through my bt headset with zero audio syncing issues.

  7. I hear the paid version of this app comes with a free AOL CD and also plays a dial-up tone when starting. I guess these kids call a 56K dial-up sound “dumb-step” or something like that!

    1. Lol good one

  8. If you want malware on your Android – this is the app to install.

  9. Bad memories, won’t give it any chance now.

  10. Someone is trying to make a comeback from beyond the grave, how original! Stay dead, Realplayer…

  11. these guys still around??!
