Sorting through all of the Android tablets showcased at CES can be a chore. Many are the attempts of smaller companies to break into an emerging market while others are the output of big-name manufacturers such as Samsung and Motorola. The former category has typically been characterized by sub-par performance and quality, but perhaps things are shifting slightly this year. LePan, a company whose name I would be surprised if any recognized, is offering a lineup of new Android slates that don’t look half bad on paper.
The LePan III is their flagship device with a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU and 1GB of RAM powering a build of Android 4.0. A 5MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing camera are coupled with 8GB of storage and plenty of connectivity including 1080p output, USB, and ethernet. A second Ice Cream Sandwich slate drops the processor back to 1GHz of dual-core action and ditches the rear camera while retaining the 2MP front-facing shooter. A third option, the LePan II runs Android 3.2 and features a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU. All look to feature a 9.7-inch, 1024 x 768 display. As far as pricing and availability, the LePan II is already up for pre-order and sells for $299.99. As far as the LePan III variants go, information should be forthcoming shortly.

1024 x 768 was great for Windows XP. These days it makes more sense to use an aspect ratio around 16:9.
Try telling that to Apple ;o)
The only reason Android tabs are 16:9 ratio is because that’s what the LCD panel manufacturers are pushing, it’s cheaper for them to produce 16:9 than 16:10 or 4:3. Same story with laptops, which is why it’s next to impossible to buy a laptop with a useful aspect ratio for actual work these days :-/

Can’t speak to their new ones, but my school bought several lepan tabs for Android development. They were crap, with resistive touchscreens, Android 2.2, and no adb support (no, seriously, you could not connect adb from any OS). The company seems to charge extra for a driver capable of giving adb support, and I would be surprised if this “driver” works on anything but windows.
