ADW EX Updated In The Android Market – Adds ICS UI But Don’t Download (Yet)

30

He’s one of the few developers in Android I have a crush on. Maybe it’s his Spanish accent or that beautiful bald head — but I think it has more to do with his launcher. Mr. Anderwebs updated his fan favorite launcher, ADW EX, to version 1.3.3.5 today — now with more Ice Cream! That’s right, he’s spruced up ADW EX with some Ice Cream Sandwich UI elements, adding things like a new dockbar (with reflections), the ability to drag an icon over another to create folders, tablet compatibility and promises even more to come.

ADW EX normally runs about $3.32 and if you were thinking about rushing to the Android Market to download it right now — DON’T. Mr. Webs made mention today that his app will be one of Google’s features “10 cent apps” in the coming days, making ADW EX an even better value than it was before. Until then, you can check out the full list of changes in version 1.3.3.5 below.

  1. New Dockbar:
  2. Unlimited icons with paginated scrolling
  3. Options stretch,scale,reflections,etc…
  4. Double tapp dock icons to edit
  5. Better folders:
  6. Drag icon over another one to auto create a folder
  7. Visual representation of folder contents with theming support
  8. Options to choose how the folder contents scroll and behave like you do with the app drawers
  9. Single/multi row auto fitting support
  10. Easier visualization of desktop and drag operations
  11. New desktop indicator inspired by ICS
  12. More to come!!

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. Thanks for the tip. I was contemplating actually buying it for full price since I use it as my primary launcher for my tablet.

    1. If I were you, I would. Honestly, I’m a LauncherPro guy myself, but ADW is great. Even though it’s about to be $.10, I’d still buy it full price because the developer deserves it, like Stephen Klinger said!

  2. I’ll jump right on this one when it’s $0.10 Student life.

    1. Amen to that. I’m all for supporting developers, but I gotta be real about my budget.

      1. $3 really breaks the budget, I know.

        1. At $3 an app, yeah. I know you’re just trolling, but I’m not about to spend another $3 on a launcher with CM9 around the corner. Especially when the last launcher I spent money on (looking at you Frederico Carnales) hasn’t updated in a very long time.

You can spend your money however you see fit. As a 2nd degree student, though, I’m going to wait for deals more often than not. Thanks for caring!

          1. I’ve been waiting and praying for Launcher Pro to be updated since May. I know your pain Chris.

  3. The guy deserves full price if you’re feeling charitable.  Most used app on my Android phone.

    1. Google probably makes up the difference to the developer, so you wouldn’t be cheating the developer.

      1. they do… google pays the difference

  4. so the question is… do i buy this for 10 cents tomorrow or thursday on my o.g. droid and use it for a day or two until the vzw galaxy nexus comes out?

    or just wait.

    1. buy it when its 10 cents, ADWex even on stock android is pretty good, so if you get it you can try it on Gnex and if you like it you like it, if not dont use it, it was only 10 cents

    2. Get it. ADW EX no matter the platform will always bring something new to your experiance.

  5. Looks like I’ll be jumping ship from LauncherPro Plus. Nevermind that the rewrite never happened, there hasn’t been an update for like six months.

Thanks for the heads up Chris.

  6. 10 cents for ADW EX is an absolute steal!  And I would think Google would make up the difference, highly doubt they would leave devs in the dust like that, especially by giving these top notch apps practically for free. Definitely d/l this when its 10 cents.

  7. Thanks for the update. Bought this along time ago. Imma go update now. ;)

  8. I just bought it earlier today. Fudge!! I wished I would have checked here before. -_-

Oh well. It’s money going towards a good developer.

  9. Can’t wait to download it. I’ve always been a LauncherPro Plus user but the lack of updates is pathetic. Not to mention some minor bugs that should be fixed. Not even a, “Hey guys, the rewrite is making goof progress. In the meantime, here is a small update to fix some bugs”.
I’ve tried ADW before and I liked it.

  10. Thanks for the heads up. Def going to get it if it drops to 10c. Paid for LauncherPro and been just disappointed with the lack of further updates and interest.

  11. I use Zeam because it’s free fast & lightweight. That is a beautiful screenshot though! I think I’m looking at the future of Cyanogen?

  12. i’m not too happy with this update.
i can no longer turn off the dockbar.

it’s possible to hide it with gestures, but i don’t like gestures and it will come back whenever the launcher is killed(reboot/low RAM)

  13. which theme are they using in the screenshot. The icons and dock bar look really nice

  14. Go Launcher EX is better.

    1. and free.

    2. I was a die hard ADW fan but lately Go has been my launcher of choice.  The only thing I wish it had was the page turn option that Live Home has, coolest screen transition I’ve ever seen.

  15. how do i get the theme in the screenshot!

  16. Hi does anyone now if the icons shown in the screen shot are part of ADW EX or separate.  I cant seem to find them in the launcher???

  17. Previous versions you were able to hide the dock bar and expand the desktop. This version “broke” that…and it sucks! I figured out how to hide the dock bar by reducing it’s size to 1 icon, but I’m unable to expand the desktop to fill in the space made by the dock bar. I emailed Anderweb….no reply yet.

    1. Go to swipe gestures and enable one gesture to hide the dock bar
