iEmu Open Source iOS Emulator For Android Has Officially Been Cancelled – RIP

29

It was only about 2 weeks ago we told you guys about an ambitious Kickstarter project aimed at emulating iOS apps on Android. There were more than a few hurdles the iEmu team were facing to get this accomplished but after gaining 100% of their $20,000 funding, iEmu is officially dead in the water. Guess, it wasn’t as easy as it sounded. The developer of the project has yet to provide any info or reasons why the whole project was cancelled regardless — we can say this is a sad, sad day. RIP iEmu.

Thanks, Molo!

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. Cancelling “…after gaining 100% of their $20,000 funding…,” sounds like a nice little boost to someone’s allowance. Just kidding, that’s the cynic in me.

    1. They don’t get any of the money if they cancel…

  2. Who wants iOS on Android anyways. Android is so much better.

    1. I wouldn’t mind playing some iOS games on my Android device… o_O

      1. Sir, are you not on G+ for some reason?

    2. Nobody wants iOS on Android, but iOS apps on Android sounds like a good idea.

    3. I still have my iPod 2G because of some of the apps. They run way smoother than some of the same apps on my G2.

      1. heh.. it’s a G2, homie.

    4. Are you kidding? I’d pay cash, just to make some of the iFanbois cry.

  3. My bet is they got hit with a giant C&D from Apple.

    1. No way, they wouldn’t C&D that but I guarantee they went a step further and told him he might “disappear” if he continues with the project.

  4. I’d imagine it has something to do with a cease and desist letter with a gag order.

  5. It’s a bit too early for a Chris post =)

    1. HAHA! Working the early shift today and all next week xD

  6. Sounds like they got the money they needed… no need to write the program.

  7. Yeah I have to wonder what is going to come of the $20k they raised?

    1. Refunded to the original accounts/cards…

  8. Yup. Almost certainly a C&D order from crApple.

  9. Don’t worry….i’m devoloping a similar project….but i need 100000$….

  11. Update from iEmu:

    Update #1: why i canceled :)

“Firstly I would like to say that I have been overwhelmed with the amount of support that I received for iEmu. I deeply appreciate all the support emails and pledges. After spending time discussing iEmu with various legal experts in the industry. I came to the conclusion that accepting funding for it would only make me more of a target for certain companies. I currently am not in a position to fight anything and have decided to take a different approach. This is by no means the end of iEmu! Stay tuned….”

    1. I hate when people say firstly.

      1. or when people point it out.

  12. As I understand it, Objective C (the language that all iOS apps are coded in) is copyright to Apple. It might be that creating that emulator would incite Apple’s lawyer army.

  13. In an unrelated story … the Apple // emulator for Windows machines project has also been cancelled. The project sponsors were unavailable for comment, since it’s senior citizens day at the casino….:-)

  14. The minute I heard they were trying to emulate iOS, I knew they would be shut down.
