Revolutionary Brings S-Off and Recovery to the HTC Sensation, EVO 3D, and More

33

Thanks to the folks behind Unrevoked and AlphaRev the HTC Sensation and EVO 3D now have permanent S-Off and NAND write access, a feat some felt might never be accomplished due to a locked bootloader. The tool called Revolutionary will do the same for most modern HTC handsets including the Desire, Desire S, Incredible S (and Droid Incredible 2), and Flyer tablet. Support is in the works for the HTC Thunderbolt.

Revolutionary is currently in developer preview, so it isn’t 100 percent ready for deployment (you may experience some bugs), but for those Sensation and EVO 3D owners tired of waiting it just might be worth it.

  2. Awesome, congrats on the victory and thank you! I’m in no rush to root my evo 3d, but it is nice to know that when I want too, it will be there waiting for me.

  3. In before…”Where’s EVO 4G?!?!?!?!”

  4. Awesome! Now I just need an Android phone… :|

    1. o_O

    2. LOL

  5. Now I have a reason to switch to the Sensation! Can’t wait for CM7 to support it.

  6. Awesome. But HTC should be unlocking the bootloader next week / month (august) as well, so doubly awesome for HTC!!!

    1. HTC has said the Evo 3D would be addressed sometime in September. Other, older, devices will begin rolling out in August.

      1. I’ve seen so many people put their own spin on what HTC said they would be doing. No where did it say that the EVO 3D wouldn’t be addressed until sometime in September. Simply said it would start with the Sensation in August and then the EVO 3D, and everything after that should be finished by September.

        1. Actually, you made me reread their statement, and I discovered something in the wording that I had overlooked.

“…software updates to support bootloader unlocking will begin rolling out in August for the global HTC Sensation, followed by the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA and the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. We’re in the testing phase for the unlocking capability now, and we expect it to be fully operational by early September for devices that have received the software updates.”

There is simply no other way to interpret this, other than HTC will be releasing a software update in August that will support an unlocking service which will only be available in September. They’re very clear with their wording…the updates might be in August, but there will be no way to apply them until the other half of the service is “expected” to be ready in September.

Many (including me) wondered why they didn’t just immediately release a simple OTA with the bootloader set to S-OFF – easy as cake, no chance of bricking, everyone is happy. But apparently it’s taking so long because they have to develop a whole system of tracking/applying S-OFF on an individual basis. I just hope it doesn’t take a sinister turn.

  7. I smell a video coming soon….. :D

    1. I hope so, every phone I rooted I followed a video. I’m not a fan of words.

Hey does this mean you’re gonna do it?

      1. Sad

      2. I’m not a fan of the things I use to communicate with other people. If only we could grunt instead of talk, it would be so much easier to hack phones.

  8. Not working on t-mobile usa sensation problem found waiting on a fix :(

  9. this was already out a long time ago, you still can’t flash custom roms

    1. it was not, temp root was but this is perm full s-off and root with SU zip flash…….roms will be coming very soon now!!!

  10. I’m ready to make my sensation 4g sense-less :)

    1. Then why buy it? Stock or custom roms don’t require dual-core to run quickly, do they?
