Amazon wants to ship 4 million tablets by the end of the year, but supply problems might get in the way of their goal. The retail giant has ordered up tablet touch panels in excess of 1.5 million, according to DigiTimes, but competing orders from Apple have manufacturers of the displays hesitant to commit. Several foundries including TPK Holdings and Wintek have expressed concern. Amazon is hoping to receive its first shipment of panels in September, but tight production schedules could cause a reduction in production numbers or possible delays.

Amazon is rumored to be producing two tablet models for launch this Holiday season, both of which should be Android devices sporting multi-core processors. The more expensive model could possible see NVIDIA’s latest quad-core CPU design.
