Samsung Sells 63.8 Million Handsets in Q2; Galaxy S Successor Due Next Year

6

Samsung posted their Q2 financial results this morning. They shipped some 63.8 million handsets to users around the world, with 19 million of those being touchscreen devices. Unfortunately we can’t pull an accurate number for Android handsets from this considering Samsung has touchscreen phones running their own Bada OS as well as other proprietary operating systems.

One decent thing we could take away from their Q2 earnings call today is that Samsung’s definitely working on a Galaxy S Two (or whatever they’ll be calling it). We should be expecting the successor to the original Galaxy S “next year” – hopefully by that time technology’s advanced far enough for them to push the bar that they’ve already set even further (Dual-core 2GHz Hummingbird with a more powerful graphics chip?)

One can only dream.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. can we assume 20 percent of those touch screen devices are android. That gives a cool number of 3.8 million android devices from samsung. And that is even before Galaxy S is appearing on all carriers worldwide. I predict Samsung Android phones alone will beat Iphone sales this quarter.

  2. Dual core 2ghz hummingbird with front facing camera, 4″ SAMOLED screen and LTE will finally make me upgrade my Droid. Can’t wait.

  3. Samsung also needs to drop Touchwiz as it already separates itself with SAMOLED screens and Hummingbird CPUs

  4. I think the only way im going to give up my Vibrant is for a successor to it. Samsung got me hooked with this one. Cant wait to see what the future holds :-)

  5. My son has the Vibrant and loves it, however I bet their sales would have went through the roof if they had better timing, as HTC, Motorola and Iphone4 ate up a lot of potential sales prior to the Galaxy S hitting the market…sure hope they figure this out and make it to the Xmas rush, as I will be looking to upgrade at that time from my Nexus One

  6. on top of hopefully having the dual core 2GHz processor, it would be awesome if samsung released the unbreakable AMOLED screen too.
