Is This The Android-Powered Walkman Phone?

4

Another leak made its way out of Chinese tech forum IT168 today. This time, we seemingly get a first look at the Walkman phone that was rumored to be in the works a few days ago. In the picture, it looks something like an Xperia X10 Mini – same interface and all – with the two obvious differentiating factors being the Walkman logo on the upper-right and lower-right corners of the device.

The phone is being codenamed TeaCake, but its official name is said to be the Sony Ericsson W150i. It currently runs Android 2.1, but we’re likely a few months outside of launch if this thing is real so that could always change. Early specs include a 2.6-inch QVGA touchscreen display and a 5-megapixel camera.

I saw some of guys hoping for Sony Ericsson to make a comeback with their Walkman brand. Will this phone do anything for you?

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Another X10, OMG, SE is not thinkin to release real phones. I mean diference styles.

  2. Nope, it’s not an Android phone. I know, and I think you shoulda seen it as well.

First: compare the screenshot with the screenshot of the X10 Mini (and other Androids): the carrier is never on the left (because that’s for notifications, like mail, sms or app notifications). Besides, on the far right of the X10 notification bar there’s not the battery but the time :)

Second: the type number indicates it’s a very low end device. The X10 Mini costs about 300 euros, but a device by the name of W150 should cost half of that.

Third: the ua profile doesn’t mention anything about Android: it’s basically the same profile as the W100i, which is also not an Android phone. You can find the profile here: http://tweakimg.net/files/upload/W150i.xml

I believe the Shakira is real though and will be the fourth X10 device :)

  3. Hope to see the much awaited customizable EQ on an android phone.

  4. I’d love to see an Android Walkman phone, they were some of the best phones I’ve ever owned (before my Droid). 2.6″ is a lil small for my liking (I think 3.2″ to 3.5″ is the sweet spot), but I can’t complain about pocketability. It’s not enough to make me stray from my Droid and whatever successor will be available next November, but I know there will be many happy Android/Walkman owners.
