There were so many submissions and we really had to dig deep for the one we liked the most, but Michael S. ended up being the winner with the following:

To stay within the fun “Google Music” theme we went with yesterday, we have a nice music-related challenge for today’s contest. We want to hear what kind of Android song you can come up with! This one will be tough.
- Create a 2-4 minute song and video about Android. Its focus can be the OS itself, a certain phone, app or anything related to Android.
- The genre can be whatever you see fit. Be creative, but also be courteous – no foul language or obscene imagery will go a long way toward your winning chances.
- In the song, within the first 10-20 seconds, you must mention Phandroid.com and/or AndroidForums.com by name.
- To enter your song/video, you must upload it as a video response to the YouTube video you see above (it’s Rob’s original Android Rap song from 2008 – you might want to give it a listen just for fun if you haven’t heard it!)
- Entries will be accepted until 11:59pm Eastern time today. Anything after that will not be considered.
- ONLY ONE ENTRY PER PERSON IS ALLOWED.

Holy cow I am now convinced you guys have no sense of humor. I read so many funny captions and the winner was not one of them. There is no doubt you guys know phones, you know Android, you know technology, but humor is not something you know or recognize.
With over 900 entries and only three of us to judge them, there’s always going to be a lot of differences in opinions.
But you really felt with over 900 entries this was the funniest one? Or the most clever? I probably read at least 75% of the entries and the one that won would not have even been in consideration. I thank you guys for your contests. It is really a cool thing and I thank you for the website. I enjoy it everyday. But I have to say you guys are 2 for 2 in choosing the wrong captions.
Completely agree. Even if I didn’t win, I feel that the one they chose was not funny/witty/smart in any sort of way.

Maybe contests should be given a more specific set of rules so that a “conflict” doesn’t exist between what people expect their submissions to be chosen for and how they really are chosen .

I know that but I would rather be honest and speak my mind then hope I may get chosen to win. Plus I am not dull enough to come up with a caption that could possibly win anyhow.

Maybe ask someone outside of Phandroid to judge a contest where humor comes into play. Or pick the top 5 and let the readers choose from the top 5. Is it a perfect system? No but I am 100% sure the results can only get better. Anyone but the panel that has picked the last two caption winners.
Quentyn, I agree. But not for the reason others might think (getting friends to vote, multiple accounts, etc). The problem is simple logistics with the page. With the volume of postings, earlier postings get pushed off the front page, which defaults to display “Sort by best rating”, therefore the earliest postings rarely get read and have little or no opportunity to get “liked.”
Thank you for the contest and I totally back you guys on the droid-x balancing on a penny. That did take a lot of skill. I’m not trying to be rude but in both caption contests the winner was supposed to be the one that was considered the funniest most whitty caption. On both occasions they just weren’t funny and I think the majority of your readers would agree. There were so many better captions. Perhaps you guys are over worked and should ask some people outside of phandorid that can be completely impartial to be judges. Happy Holidays!

Less than 24 hours to write and record a 2-4 minute song? You guys are nuts :) There’s no way I can accomplish this (I couldn’t even manage to take a pic of my phone balanced on something on time), but I’m curious to see what people come up with.
Lol. I really need a new phone so I worked on my song while at work and finished at home then spent a few hours on the video and even edited pictures. It took me about 7-10 hours to complete.

Wow, people are really bitter about not winning here. Maybe Quentyn should’ve said it was randomly picked from the judges’ top picks instead of it was their favorite. So if one judge thought it was funny, then he totally had a chance at winning.
Not only that, but the winner actually bothered to directly answer the question that was ask, which many of us didn’t. “Busta Rhymes was on hand for the launch of Google Music and took the time to pose for a few photos. How did he feel about his new gig?”
Yeah, it sucks we didn’t win. And of course we think we’re better than the next guy. But just say “That sucks, I didn’t win” instead of complaining about the person that did win.
I don’t think it is so much that people are bitter and everyone appreciates the chance to win the prize packs. I would have loved to have one but didn’t and I’m ok with that. I think everyone is disappointed because the winners of both caption contests captions were not funny or whitty! I think everyone just feels that out of 900 entries there were much better captions in both contests and that is why they suggest new judges.

I personally found this last winner to be very unfunny/witty/creative, at least not in 2011 in the United States. I could see it being dry humor funny back in the late 90s in the UK, but definitely not here.
I can see why the first caption from the first contest won, though. It was crude humor, but I can appreciate that some folks are into that.
Maybe these one day contest result turnarounds are too demanding on you phandroid staff? I know people bitch and moan, but if you took an extra day or two or three to really go over the submissions I don’t think anyone would complain. I mean hell, it’s nearing the holidays and things are just getting hectic. We would understand.

Hey Chris. I thank Phandroid for these contests. Like I said in an earlier post. It is a very cool thing to do. I also love your website. I enjoy it on a daily basis. It is by far the best Android site on the net. But can you honestly say this caption was the funniest or the most clever or entertaining in any way? I read most of the 900 + and there were so many captions so much funnier. Your giveaways are fantastic but your comedy skills are not. I am surprised though. I checked out your Google+ page. You seem like a pretty hip guy. I really find it hard to believe you found this caption the funniest out of all the contestants who entered. None the less I thank you for all your hard work and I will always be a daily reader of your website.
0o0, Just thought of something else. If you guys are planning on doing one of those hidden phrase things, would it be possible to include pictures in the posts, instead of words (so that they’re not searchable by scripts/bots?) Maybe hidden picture puzzles.
Ex; the pictures of an eye, a heart, and some sort of goat-looking animal, placed into a random post of the day. Then we’d be responsible for finding the post that contains the pic and then to decipher the puzzle (ex above = I love you). Bot free, right?
Maybe negative feedback can be a way to weed out entries for future contests. Obviously they don’t appreciate the opportunities you are providing us.

I think people were happier with just pure random contests. When skill has been involved in it, majority of the community feels that the entry that had the most skill wasn’t chosen.

I think that the staff here at phandroid is doing a great job with the contest so far. Ideas for each contest are very novel, although some cater to certain people more than others. But that’s how it should be. Give everyone a fair chance.

The production on this is really good, but it looks like you had a “D’oh!” moment with the running time.
It is spot on at 4mins. The last 7 seconds are just an echo so the song actually does end at 4mins and thus I *HOPE* it is still eligible. I so badly want to win one of these prize packs. I am still in college so money is hard to come by and my HTC Desire is almost about dead :(

I have no talent and less skill at video making. But I enjoy the contest and hope for the pity vote. It took me more time to figure out how to “video respond” on youtube than for the entire production of my video. We who are technologically challenged are at a real disadvantage.

I’m really surprised at how many people put together quality entries only to have them get DQ’d due to the video’s running time. It’s a shame, cause there were some really good ones in here! I won’t complain, though, since it helps my chances. :)
