Finally! The number one complaint I’ve had with the web version of the Android market was that they tried to create a “like/dislike” system for user reviews. This was great, except for one major flaw – users would often see reviews not relevant to the current version of the app they’re looking at.
An app that was updated two days ago will have comments about problems from 6 months or even years ago that might have already been addressed simply because enough people “liked” it. Google enabled the feature on and off on both phones and on the web, seemingly not sure which direction they wanted to go.
We imagine someone came up with this brilliant idea – “why not let people choose what they want?” And that they did. You can now search Android market reviews by “Newest,” “Helpfulness,” or by “Rating.” That’s all there needs to be said. Simple, yet so many will be appreciative of it. Did they just kill AppBrain? Naw, AppBrain still has the big RECOMMENDED APPS button based upon your current app selection (instead of having to go app by app on the Market).
And also, there is sorting by “Hot apps today, this week,” or “Popular apps in the X country,” “women,” “people in their 30’s” etc. Or you can filter search results by “Free, Paid, Updated, Price Reduced,” and the all important App2SD Enabled! Oh yeah, and not only is the app awesome, but the website (www.appbrain) is great and Androlib (http://www.androlib.com/appstats.aspx) gives great data to beat down iTards with about the quality of the Android Market.

AppBrain and Androlib are still is the best App shopping tools in the mobile market today.
Still, good job Google- you’re late, (especially since the iPhone App Store has been giving ratings for the CURRENT VERSION of an app separate from the total rating since, like, forever). That way when apps like TuneWiki blow themselves up with BS debilitating or privacy stealing updates, you don’t get hoodwinked into uploading it.
They need to add this to the Chrome Web Store too, suffered from the same ‘most helpful’ update that seems to only shows bug reports that were fixed last year.
Finally.
They should be able to figure out what version of an app you have installed at the time you leave a review and then give us an option (on by default) to exclude reviews for versions except the most recent.
It is like the one guy in Google who works on the Market part time noticed Amazon exists.
