A now-defunct pre-order page over at J&R is suggesting that Toshiba’s Honeycomb tablet, when it finally arrives, will be priced at $449 for a version housing 8GB of internal storage. Listed under the Thrive name we first saw in trademark filings a few weeks back, the 32GB variant is priced at $579.99.
For what you get, we aren’t arguing with the price. $450 for a 10.1-inch, Tegra 2 tablet rocking Android Honeycomb is enough to guarantee a good showing for the “coming soon” device. Yep, no word on a release date yet. Last we heard the thing was delayed until the end of summer, but hopefully this pre-orer is a sign of good things to come.

It’s unfortunate that every Honeycomb tablet thus far has to be subjected to the shortcomings of the Tegra 2 chipset. Too bad for such an amazing OS and UI.
Is there anything wrong with Tegra 2 or is it just that the ipad 2 is percieved as more powerful? Seems strange that’s all, because before the ipad 2 it was the dogs bollocks
It’s a year old and has a terrible time with HD (1080p) play back. Yet it’s (the Xoom) advertised as an HD Multi-media player. Sure if you want to jump down to 720p. It gets killed by the A5 in terms of both GPU and CPU.
Ah, I see. Fair point, but from what I’ve seen the games on it looked pretty decent, for a tablet at least, and do you really need 1080p on a tablet? I personally think a lot of comments regarding Tegra 2 seemed to be of the negative variety only after the ipad 2 was released…. From the various reviews of Honeycomb tablets it appears that the buggy nature of the UI is the problem and not the processor itself… I have a year old desire and it’s maybe not the fastest but it’s still a damn fine phone ;-)
I agree, although tegra 2 is a great chipset for phones, I don’t think it is enough for tablets. I’m sure the GPU is great but they need some more along the lines of samsungs exynos, now that is a beast. I would also really like to see some of the OMAP 4’s that is rocked by the blackberry playbook, which after Playing with I would own if it wasn’t so dang small.
…except it’s half way to open seaon for tegra 3 tabs by the time this comes out….and for 8 GB, it’s quite expensive…..not interested
