Toshiba’s Honeycomb Tablet Delayed Until End of Summer

14

Toshiba’s Honeycomb tablet, which will be known as the Regza AT300 in some parts of the world, has been delayed until the “very end of summer,” according to Ken Chan of the company’s UK business and laptops division. He wouldn’t, however, explain the reason behind the delay of the Tegra 2 device.

The 10.1-inch slate was first shown off at CES earlier this year, and since then has been making the rounds to various trade shows all the while managing to remain fairly elusive. The delay is fairly easy to swallow considering the number of other Honeycomb options currently available, but we do look forward to a do that Toshiba finally gets this one to shelves.

  1. Hopefully this is to incldue v3.1 of honeycomb or perhaps are they thinking or doing something more radical like a 1.2Ghz version of Tegra2 to stand out from the crowd, or it may be down to packaging with them trying to make it slimmer and lighter maybe. The tablets all seem too similar so far….

    1. The Nvidia Tegra 2 at 1.2 Ghz was cancelled because the regular Tegra 2 arrived so late in popular products that it should’ve been the 1.2 Ghz version by now (not really Nvidia’s fault). But Nvidia said Tegra 3 will arrive in products starting August, so maybe that’s what Toshiba means by “very end of summer”.Maybe they will use Tegra 3. If they want to launch their first tablet with a splash, they’d better use that.

  2. I so want this. It looks amazing!

  3. Probably more to do with being unsure of the market and their terrible 3rd party 100 Tablet that was pulled from market. Where as Apple has one Tablet to feed the iOS market, Android will have a bunch of tablets battling for second place. The share gets smaller and smaller.

The one key of differentiation is Flash and consumers “get it”. If Apple feels threatened, all they have to do is allow Flash to work on their devices. Game over then and evil Apple will rule :(

    1. BTW, I guess they may bring out a keyboard, since the Tosh has a big a55 bezel like the Transformer…. At least Tosh put USB host and micro USB on it.

  4. but we do look forward to a do that Toshiba finally gets this one to shelves.”

    What does this mean?

  5. Could very well be the same parts sourcing issue that has caused supply problems of the Transformer. Of significant note, in the camera and automotive industry, any company that sources any parts from Japan is expecting major production delays through at least summer due to rolling blackouts that are expected until they get their power situation sorted out, hopefully by that time. (Although, this is in no way guaranteed to happen by then.)

  6. Not exactly surprising. But I really had hopes for this tablet… looked like they were going to do it right. But it was always concerning that no one had ever seen it actually run honeycomb. Now I’m really glad that I didn’t wait around for it and just bought an Acer A500… I absolutely love it.

  7. Way to go Toshiba. Bring a knock-off product to market 6 months late. Continue to be irrelevant….

  8. It would be smart of them to pull a Samsung here. Redesign, make it thinner, make it faster, make it as light as possible and release after the 10.1 has taken the world by storm. Lets face it, the 10.1 is pretty much the first Android tab that has a great chance. The xoom would have done better if it has 4 months before ipad2.

    1. I think that’s exactly the reason. They will make it thinner and lighter, use a better screen, lower the price(in case they had it over $500), and since they mention “very end of summer” that could mean it might put a Tegra 3 chip inside. It would certainly be the smart thing to do.

  9. Well this sucks. Every one waiting for this just decided to go buy something different.

    1. me..too..sick of waiting….i am going with Acer…

  10. wellp I just order a xoom tired of waiting
