What Kind of LTE Speeds Are You Getting With Your New HTC Thunderbolt?

129

It’s nearly 8:00 AM on the west coast and that means most people who were anticipating this phone already has it in their hands. We want to know what kind of speeds you’re getting with your brand new HTC Thunderbolt now that more than a few devices are pinging that shiny new LTE network Verizon’s put up.

Below shows what some of our tipsters have been getting just two days before Verizon officially launched it (March 15th). As you can see, these speeds rival and – in my case – surpass the capabilities of broadband cable and DSL home internet. That is absolutely amazing for a phone.

Not even a few weeks ago, speeds paled in comparison. Perhaps this is what was taking Verizon so long to release it: the Thunderbolt probably wasn’t taking full advantage of the LTE network and it had to be fixed. Those results compared to today’s are like a night and day difference.

If you remember a while back, Rob did some speed tests on Verizon’s LTE network using his data stick. Download speeds were comparable to what they are now, but upload speeds seem to have gotten a major upgrade since then.

It’ll be interesting to see how things are looking after a week or two when most of the early adopter crowd has the device in their hands. If you already have one, post your own screenshots and compare them to ours and others’.

  1. With Speedtest.net I’m consistantly seeing 10-14MB download (peak was 19MB) and 28-32MB upload (peak was 43MB) in Columbus, OH (currently have full signal strength). Ironically enough, the Columbus, OH consistantly gives me 5-6MB download while almost every other server is 10MB+ download.

  2. OK but what about the battery???

  3. holy smokes. This blows WIMAX right out of water. No wonder Sprint is jumping ship to LTE.

  4. It’s always great to be first on a shiny unused network. Sadly, the fun never never lasts. Though, with only one 4G phone, VZW’s network won’t get really taxed for awhile. Q4 2011 will be the real test, especially if iPhone5 is LTE capable.

  5. @Christian it’s still a bit too early to determine how good or bad battery life is. We’ll have more later.

  6. I can tell you for a fact that those upload speeds are wrong….the issue has to do with how the Speedtest app handles file upload test.

  7. @Christian it’s still charging :)

  8. iPhone users should not be given the privelige of LTE – they’re a bunch of hipsters (btw they had the iPhone when it was called the hPhone)

  9. @UBRocked you guys down in cbus have 4g I’m in youngstown/warren and no 4g yet

  10. yeah iP5 won’t be getting LTE, i’d bet money on that

in other news this phone is the first one to make me want to ditch my EVO

  11. What about latency??? It’s just as important as bandwidth!!!

  12. That’s Bonkers.

  13. Do phone calls use VZW’s LTE frequencies or is it just data? I have crappy reception on calls at my house and was hoping LTE would help.

  14. Ditto in North Canton no LTE.. Up 77 in Akron they have it. I plan on trying it out over the weekend.

  15. @Robert yes, we have 4G here. Cincinnati, Akron, Cleveland and Columbus are the only cities in OH that Verizon states has 4G coverage.

    http://network4g.verizonwireless.com/#/coverage

  16. Is it really Mb/s or is that kbps?

  17. So fat batteryis good im gona do a speed test soon

  18. Getting nice speeds here on Cleveland. Been playing Pocket Legends for about two hours now and still at 75% battery. On my Incredible that would have been 50-60.

  19. @Latency it is pretty consistent pinging at 106-113 ms (various servers). I’ve had some oddballs…but after about 20-30 tests…110 ms looks to be average.

  20. Just a heads up, those upload speeds mean nothing (as in, they are completely wrong). The speedtest app needs to be updated to get accurate upload readings for the Thunderbolt.

But those download numbers look awesome!

  21. HI ! I have had my thunderbolt for 2 hours. It has a great screen, very clear, the touch responds fast, fonts are big. Everyone seems to be worried about the battery, at Verizon they were pushing people to buy an extended battery for $50.
With all smartphones the battery needs to be frequently charged, I just hope its not too poor.
Everything on the phone is super fast so far.

  22. Use the Cincinnati server the Columbus what is crap I have found as I also live in Columbus I was using that server and wondering why my speeds were so slow but switched to a lot of different ones and all were higher than the Columbus one. Cincinnati gave me the most consistent results with a nice ping.

  23. Just picked my tbolt!! Third in line at the store and first to leave with a running phone and damn is it fast!! I haven’t run any speed tests yet but the internet browsing is insanely fast on 4g. It loads the cnn.com page in mere seconds. Quite amazing. I will check back soon with speed test results.

On a side note, I only paid 174.99 at the verizon store for my phone. I used my upgrade and still have no idea why I only paid that price. I was expecting to pay $249 while still using my upgrade. Not that I am complaining about the price but does anyone have a reason why I paid 174.99?

  24. Hopefully when t-mobile rolls out the new HSPA+ which can go to 42 mbs, The phone can take advantage of that…

  25. I am on sprint and while I agree I am a bit jealous of the super fast speeds of LTE I have no complaints with my WiMax 4g on sprint it consistently bests my home road runner connection and is more than snappy enough for me and i do a lot of downloading. Once sprint gets their 1x advanced network up and running WiMax in tandom with LTE I am willing to wait especially if they buy out T-Mo. Now that sounds like bliss.

  26. I’m getting 16 mbps down and 19 mbps up in Houston

  27. Cant wait for my Xoom to get on the LTE network.

  28. Question though my Wimax will sleep after so long on non use, and can be a bit laggy on waking up I have tweeked mine so it is better but how is the LTE does it do the same thing or is it always on and does it kill your battery?

  29. My test showed download speed 7.03mbs and upload speeds at 25.09mbs

  30. What an incredibly crappy phone the Thunderturd is. I can’t beleive people actually waited for this pos and paid $259 for it what a ripoff.

  31. I bought my Thunderbolt this morning in northern Kentucky, near Cincinnati. I’m consistently getting speeds of around 15 mbps down and “31” mbps up, as high as “51” mbps once (is there really a bug with the upload bandwidth test?).

There is no Skype and no Swype, either.

  32. Right now VZW LTE is blowing everything out of the water. Better speeds at better latency and on a much better spectrum than anything in its class. There’s a reason why VZW is more expensive than the other carriers. WiMax is such a joke at 200ms+ latencies on that 2.5Ghz spectrum. Sprint’s “4G” is mad spotty anytime you are indoors.

  33. OK, but what about real loading of pages. I mean, at those speeds you should have pretty much any site load in 1 second or less. Do you experience that for real websites (not mobile versions)? If you don’t, then you can see why LTE is pretty pointless without at least a dual core chip to render pages fast, too.

  34. All ridiculous numbers. Time Warner – I’ll see ya. Cablevision – I’ll see ya. FIOS? – No need.

    android-alert.com

  35. damn those speeds rival my wifi network’s speeds

  36. This is seriously disappointing – no LTE service in my office in midtown Manhattan. So I love the phone at least. Way better feel that then Evo 4G from Sprint. But the only thing showing up is the 1X connection – it won’t even register the possibility of 4G. Maybe I’m missing some setting to turn on/off 4G like on the Evo 4G, but I’m not able to find it. Any suggestions on possible solutions would be much appreciated. Or am I left with contacting Verizon and telling them they need to put in better towers in the nation’s biggest cell phone market?

  37. FCC has an android speed test app as well. i’m hearing that speedtest.net might not be accurate every time.

  38. Just ran SpeedTest on mine, got 12.45Mb down and 24.19Mb up, though I’ve heard the SpeedTest app has a bug where the up speeds reported are around 3x actual. Even so, it’s damn fast!

Battery life is hard to say. Mine hasn’t even charged up to 100% yet, and I’m fiddling with it a lot more than usual to get everything the way that I want it. It’ll probably take like a week or so to really get a feel for the battery life – a couple of days of starting with full charge and no more usage than normal.

  39. Does anyone know what the range on LTE is? I know NYC is covered but how far outside of the city limits can one expect to get coverage? Thanks

  40. Yes but can you talk and do a speed test @ the same time? I don’t think so

  41. Currently I am using the Thunderbolt HotSpot right now to write this post and my results are below using speedtest.net:

    Test 1: DL 19.77mb/s UL 2.53mb/s
    Test 2: DL 16.87mb/s UL 2.22mb/s
    Test 3: DL 16.99mb/s UL 2.65mb/s

That’s way faster that my cable internet.

  42. @UBRocked thanks I have the 4g broadband they let me upgrade early plus it was 10 dollars cheaper hope my area gets 4g soon but hope you like your phone and keep us updated planning on getting one but ill wait till my contract is up only have 8 months to go.

  43. Of course everywhere AROUND Dayton has 4G! I guess I’ll hold off on this until 4G spreads up from Cinci. :P

  44. i can switch phones from my DX to the thunderbolt for $85 the $50 difference and a $35 restock is it worth the switch and loss of battery life when i only get 3g in my area

  45. Surely, surely this will silence a few naysayers that are in here. Way to go big red, well done. Verizon just sent my EVO owning friend this message: sorry we didn’t lube it, but were Verizon, you should have knew it, you download speeds suck, your service isn’t worth a buck. As of today, our 4g is here to stat, sprint, when are u coming out of the closet to try and play? Eat the big red dick, your service simply isn’t worth a shit!

  46. I mean I can load most mobile sites in about a second or two on 3G, the real advantage is for a/v streaming and file downloading, which I pretty much can’t do while driving around the main parts of my city. The connection just dips down and back up again, making it almost unbearable. LTE will likely be able to fix this with a more solid and consistent data connection than EV-DO can offer. I also heard somewhere that WiMax is having a similar issue when you move around too much? Heck, my file is probably already downloaded by the time I move into a low spot anyway. GSM has just always been a more solid experience for me. (lived in Tuscaloosa, AL and Columbia, SC /w T-Mo 3G so not very large metros)

  47. @Lucian I’m blazing through websites like never before. CNN (desktop version) loaded completely with flash content within 10 seconds of hitting “go”. So far…Thunderbolt on 4g is MUCH faster than my Fascinate was over WiFi. Turning on WiFi would probably slow this thing down considering I get about 3MB download and 1MB upload here at work.

  48. @Mallock. I’m a VZW employee. Voice strictly uses CDMA 1X which is not even 3G. The way the TBolt is set up is that while its jot recommended you can still have 3G data usage while on a phone call. Yes, I meant 3G not 4G. The reason this is significant to you poor voice quality is that it you have some data loading in the background while on a call it will take away from the voice’s bandwidth. So for example if you have a webpage loading and get a call and see your 4G drop to 3G (which it shouldn’t but of course is possible) then be sure to stop the page loading.

As for my speeds, I’m in the Chandler/Phoenix area. Ping is right at 113, download is 7-11Mbps, upload is a similarly staggering 39-49Mbps!! As you all have been told, VZW LTE is amazingly fast.

  49. In minneapolis – Using a chicago server I got 10.61 Mbps download, 32.75 Mbps Upload (sounds wrong..), and 136 ms ping. I love this phone so far!! Just need root, that is next.

  50. Has anyone seen 3g speed increase with the phone? No 4g here need an excuse to go get one!

  51. OMG IM LOVING IT

  52. @John – see my post a couple above you. NYC is far from covered.

  53. I’m really really thinking about jumping back to Verizon for this phone but I use a lot of data streaming music and sirius. Have any of you guys experienced verizons data throttleing yet? That’s what concerns me the most. I average 8-10 gigs on my AT&T BB 9700.

  54. On the brightside naysayer, calling you out richard and sigint, you do have something to brag about to ATT customers, their supposed 4g network cant even reach 4up and 2down so you do have that to be happy about, your EVO 4g is now not even on the same level as anything that verizon chooses to label as one of their 4g phones. ATTN: all other sprint customers, i mean nothing toward you, i am so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so tired of hearing richard and sigint rag on verizons network, i mean nothing toward the rest of you guys. but these douchers can eat crow!

  55. love this… We are kind of waiting for the dust to settle (will it ever settle?) b4 we pick our family HTC :-)

  56. I can’t wait fot the people that deflected on this phone because of the supposed pushed back “launch dates” (none of which were official) to go back to VZW with their tails between their legs and get the Thunderbolt after all the reviews come out. We all know this is a great device and the first of its kind on this network. I’m not surprised Verizon took their time to cross their T’s and dot their I’s before releasing it.

  57. But, can you call 911 in a blizzard when you need to?

    ;-)

  58. For all the WiMax know nothings. Speed has nothing to do with it. WiMax and LTE are very similar and capable of similar speed. The Telco can chose what speed they want to give you. Has little if nothing to do with WiMax vs LTE.

So if Verizon is giving early adopters fast speeds it’s only because they choose to….for now. Because almost nobody is on the network so why not. Makes for good PR.

    Get a clue.

  59. Wow…… 21.80 down
    36.13 up
This is in the St Paul/Minneapolis area

  60. @Ksizzle9
You can munch my taint. You’re patting yourself on the back because Verizon has good speed for all those 5 people using one 4G phone. You might have something to knob yourself over after VZW’s network has been up longer than 5 minutes and actually has some customers on it. Come back in a year and see if those speeds hold up without throttling, caps, overage costs and all the other nonsense VZW is trying to do.

  61. Does the Thunderbolt come loaded with Flash? There are so many web sites that use flash.

  62. @Fred I only meant that I heard WiMax had the similar “dropping” issue that EV-DO seems to have while traveling. It’s not absent on GSM but the handoff seems smoother.

  63. no 4G where I’m at currently… but I’m happy to see simultaneous voice and data work… and work well.

  64. @George, yes, the Thunderbolt came preloaded with Flash and I could use it’s default browser to visit homestarrunning.com without problems.

  65. Oh please sprint had these kind of speeds at first as well give it a few months and their speeds won’t be this good.

  66. @signet did yours and Richards evo get those speeds on launch day with only “5” 4g phones on the network…I think not

  67. Sprint has never had these speeds. Never.

  68. Can anyone answer what’s the 4G data plan required to get this phone? How much does it add to $29.99 unlimited 3G?

  69. I put the attic 4g and the thunderbolt to a side by side test and while verizons network was better the atrix blew the.thunderbolt away in every other category I wish the atrix was on verizon, the screen difference was unreal the atrix.is beautifull

  70. Nice! I can’t wait until they get LTE up here in Mendocino County in NW Cal! Right now I’m hearing next year at the soonest, oh well, what can ya do.

  71. @Nlsme….yawn,

Verizon has never had the 4G network Sprint currently has….NEVER! Wait awhile when you can actually get signal in more than a half dozen towers across the country on the Verizon network then you can start to make comparisons.

  72. @joe, Then Verizon has Bionic for you. You just need to wait a little more for it.

  73. @Drew,

If WiMAX has a hand off issue I can GUARANTEE you LTE will have the same issue. The protocols are very similar, the frequencies are identical. So people talking about wall penetration etc. don’t know what they are talking about.

They are still comparing a running functioning network (WiMAX) to something that is still largely vapourware and moving into embryonic (LTE)

  74. Fred, sprints coverage is half that of verizons. And thousands of people have made these complaints about wimax. Just put your head back up your ass.

  75. Actually I find all this to be REAL FUNNY everyone jumping up and down and happy about INFLATED SPEEDS on a network WITH ONLY ONE 4G DEVICE RUNING… COME ON BE SERIOUS… YOUR LTE NETWORK HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE FOR 2MONTHS HERE IN NYC THE CELLPHONE CAPITOL OF THE WORLD.. I don’t feel SPRINT needs to prove ANYTHING to ANYONE we created THE GAME and EVERYONE FOLLOWED… We were the TREND SETTER.. We started this 4g REVOLUTION and BROUGHT THE FIRST 4G DEVICE TO MARKET.. We have THREE 4G DEVICES ON OUR CURRENT NETWORK and we ARE HOLDING UP WELL… In New York City I get ANYWHERE from CONSISTENT 6 TO 10 DOWN AND 2 TO 4 UP ON 4G so I am happy… No need to compare cause my current HTC EVO 4G the device EVERYONE HAS COPIED IS STILL DOING VERY WELL 10MONTHS LATER….. SHINNY NEW TOYS ARE NICE BUT LETS SEE FOR HOW LONG… STILL SPRINT WILL BE ADDING 4 MORE 4G CAPABLE DEVICES TO THERE NETWORK WITHIN THE NEXT 3MONTHS… That will bring there total to 7 4g devices… LETS SEE HOW YOUR NETWORK HOLDS UP AFTER 4 MORE DEVICE GET ON IT THAT IS 4G CAPABLE THEN CHECK BACK IN WITH ME… Me and my Evo 4g will be making a stop into a verizon store soon so i can see this device for my self.. Still it has last year’s specs minus A BUMP IN RAM AND NEW 8255 PROCESSOR… NOTHING TO WRITE HOME AND TELL NOBODY ABOUT IN MY BOOK.. THE REAL DEVICE COMING IS THE DUALCORE SNAPDRAGON PROCESSOR MSM 8660 THAT WILL RESIDE IN THE NEW HTC EVO2 GUESS THEY SAVED THE BEST FOR SPRINT…. HTC/SPRINT GO WAY BACK VERIZON WILL NEVER HAVE A BETTER PRODUCT FROM HTC THAN SPRINT…. THATS GUARANTEED

  76. http://a.yfrog.com/img610/4954/2o5mg.jpg. first speed test done at home 47.88 mbps down and 48.65 mbps up and this is constant speeds for me here in houston

  77. OK, finally took my phone to a Verizon store to discover that Best Buy had failed to appropriately activate it somehow. Now I have 4G. But it’s not great. 2Mbps download, but 25Mbps upload. Riddle me that…

And that’s in midtown Manhattan, for all you NYers out there.

  78. You sound a tad bit bitter there Reechard

  79. Actually, I wonder if Verizon needs to reconfigure its network – it is surely devoting too much bandwith to upload capabilities. Not that I’m a techie – does anyone know if it works that way?

  80. Richard, you know you are bragging about a rumored device? And, you even have the rumor wrong!!! LG is gonna be the next EVO manufacturer.

  81. Richard is mad lol… just accept that Verizon is top dog please… it will make you feel better… and this is coming from a T-Mobile user… anywho… the HTC pyramid hopefully can replicate these speeds…

  82. As a Verizon employee I’m still waiting for my Thunderbolt. Sprint, ATT nothing against u at all. Big Red is proud to have taken the time to invest and build the most Advanced 4G network in the world. If Sprint truly chooses the internet speed it supplies its customers than that’s truly sad.
4G is more than a word with Big Red, we post openly our 4G coverage map and our real life speeds. Speeds Verizon promises to deliver is on a fully loaded network. Download 5-12 Mbps, and upload 2-5 mbps. Integrity of our Network or our promise is stronger than ever.
ATT, look for there 4G map, where is it? I challenge u to find it. ATT and T-mobile uses Hspa+ an advanced 3g network not 4G. Sprint is in process of develop a plan to implement Lte which will be 2-3 yrs and no where near the coverage of Big Red.
For those of u who are not in a 4G market, stay strong, the technology is real, and Verizons pledge is strong. LTE will expand this yr and totally blanket our entire 3G map 2013.
In case u didn’t know, advantages of Lte are; faster speeds, lower latency, larger coverage area per tower. And better building penetration than any other wireless technology.
Any 4G questions, leave a comment ill reply…

  83. @Richard – LOUD NOISES!

  84. The first speed test I did over LTE was in Columbus, OH, with the Speed Test app from speedtest.net. I got 20052 kbps down and 19746 kbps up. :D LTE for the win!

  85. The first speed test I did over LTE was in Columbus, OH, with the Speed Test app from speedtest.net. I got 20052 kbps down and 19746 kbps up. :D LTE for the win!

  86. I like how Richard keeps saying “we” had the first 4g phone and “we” were the trend setters everyone is copying like he had something do do with any of it. Dude chill out your just some Guy who bought an evo you didn’t do shit. And how is the t bolt a copy of the evo there both made by htc did they copy themselves? So should no phone have a touchscreen any more because the evo had one or how about no more 8 MP camera on any new phone cause the evo had it only 7 or 9 can be used. Do you understand that everything evolves they don’t start from scratch everytime they make something new they use existing technology and tweek it. You are the biggest fanboy and are very delusional.

  87. I remember the day I got my MyTouch 4G, I got speeds around 10Mbps. Now I average around 2Mbps-3Mbps. Enjoy your speeds while they last. Network congestion will eventually lead to lower speeds. While LTE may still beat HSPA+ even with full network loads, it will not be this good again.

  88. Richard, please fucking fix your CAPS lock key.

And also, Sprint 4G is embarrassing, but atleast it’s not AT&T’s crap. Also, if Sprint’s 4G was so stellar, why the hell would they jump ship on wimax so fast for LTE?

stop even assuming everyone else is ill-informed, you’re the fucking naive one in here.

  89. @jinwons, the Thunderbolt works on 4G for the same $29.99/month price with unlimited data.

Everyone, I turned on the Wi-Fi hotspot and ran a speedtest on my computer. The results were still impressive: 7 mbps down, 4 mbps up.

  90. For the record, though the term 4G has lost meaning the definition definition seems to vary depending on who u ask. Truth is no carrier is offering the speeds that 4G is required to deliver, however Verizon Wireless is the only carrier that has 4G technology. It’s true speeds will slow down, but not below what we are promising to deliver and FYI the capability of LTE goes far beyond the speeds seen today. LTE has been tested higher than 70 mbps. What u are seeing today is a glimpse of what the future holds.

  91. Sorry for the typos, Droid auto-correction while on the road. Now is the time to switch to Verizon Wireless, u have unlimited data plan with the most advanced wireless technology in the world and on Americas most reliable network. I spoke of integrity, have any of u looked up ur carriers 4G map? Can u find it on the map?
Look at the upcoming advertisements, are any carriers boasting the fastest 4G speeds or largest 4G coverage?

  92. The one known as Richard speaks the gospel of light and truth!!! He is the creator of The Sprint… HE CREATED THE GAME! Bow down heretics and verizon subscribers, your day of reckoning is near!

  93. Hey fanboys… enough.

  94. @Nlsme,

It is you that is talking out of your a$$. Sprint 4G is the ONLY 4G national network. Verizon has a few towers in a few cities. They are still years behind.

Your knowledge or lack thereof is laughable!

  95. @JoeVerizon,

WiMax is capable of the same speeds of LTE. In fact WiMAX will likely be the backhaul of many LTE networks. Those numbers you spew forth are backhaul speeds btw…..get a clue!

  96. To say something is capable of the same speed and showing it ate 2 different things. Where is ur research or data supporting your claim Fred. No offense intended at all. The fact is wimax has been around for a long time and Verizon has the lead with 3 months of Lte launch. We are in 38 markets, not including airports. There is a reason Sprint is talking about Lte adoption but not publicly..

  97. @joe verizon what about Tmobile’s 42mbit and 84mbit hspa+ speeds? If tmobile useres get average 10mbits now @ 21mbits speeds, it clearly will compete with verizon’s lte. Plus tmobile’s HSPA+ network is a year old, so the speeds we see are permanent and always improving.

  98. Fred, you put words in peoples mouths, then claim they dont know what they talk about. Then, you make false statements that clearly show you are clueless. LTE and wimax are worlds apart, not only in theory, but in practice. Now, call me when you get a clue.

  99. from what I know abercae, and technology is ever evolving, hspa+ is considered 4G because even the theoretical speeds (20mbps claimed by t-mobile as theoretical speeds that are not real numbers) are not fast enough to claim 4G. I honestly haven’t seen hspa deliver 80mbps speeds. If you use the world as an indicator for where technology is going, then fact is as a general consensus that LTE is the superior technology because the majority of the world has adopted LTE. Reason being is lower latency, faster speeds, better building penetration (spectrum /bandwidth) is important.

  100. “In case u didn’t know, advantages of Lte are; faster speeds, lower latency, larger coverage area per tower. And better building penetration than any other wireless technology.”

@JoeVerizon Is every element in your list of comparisons compared to any other wireless technology or just building penetration? I consistently get <100 ms latency with T-Mobile, most of the people that posted their latencies here are greater than 100 ms. What are these advantages in comparison to? Verizon's ev-do network?

  101. @Nlsme (post 98),
In short, you are wrong. Nothing else to say there, so let’s leave it at that.

  102. So, T-mobile, Sprint, AT&T customers, I’m curious, do your websites have a 4G coverage map, I’m not talking about look at an individual coverage, but a map so u can visually see 4G coverage across the country in one snapshot. Not a coverage map for voice but 4G? If not, ever wonder why? How about speeds. Does ur network guarantee a specific range of speeds in 4G coverage

  103. What exactly am I wrong about? Pretty sure Im not. Lets leave it at that.

  104. Just to clear up a statement made in this article. Cell phone downloads speeds are in the bits, internet that is routed into your home downloads in the Bytes, it takes 8 bits to make one Byte. Just sayings

  105. Richard…it just doesn’t get any better THAN THIS…V FOR THE WIN lol…sorry ijust hadddd to do that Richard

  106. Joe …at some point will big Red charge extra for 4g…some point soon?

  107. I don’t know of any plans to charge 4G as we have every intention of having our 4G coverage cover our 3G entirely by 2012/2013. However, there is no saying how long unlimited data plans will be around. What I can say from my experience is its nice to be grandfathered, meaning if u have unlimited 4G, that will more than likely not change. We still have loyal customers on unlimited mobile broadband plans that does not get throttled.

  108. To the continued ignorance of those who refuse to accept they have no clue. You know how to use Google don’t you?

You can figure it out for yourself and you don’t even need an Engineering degree. You just need to be able to read a spec sheet. WiMAX is used on a lot of networks backhaul including LTE networks for a reason. Some of the ignorance of which does what is laughable.

JoeVerizon. You are shining example of the sort of competence that can be found at your company…….sigh!

  109. WAIT world has adopted lte?when was i born?and yes tmo is coming out with hspa+42 and more…its fine enough for me…hey big red…wait til your house gets congested..then lets talk..love my tmo

  110. @NIsme…. http://www.androidcentral.com/…..The Next HTC EVO2/3d… The best device in 2011

  111. @joeverizon… You sound like SOME BOGUS COMMERCIAL…. STOP FALSE ADVERTISING THAT’S ALL VERIZON DOES OH LETS NOT FORGET HOW THEY OVERCHARGE FOR SERVICES.. BUNCH OF COCKS… BIG RED EQUALS DEVIL-APPLE -THUNDERBOLT

  112. I can’t believe the comments I’m reading! Are you guys really arguing over networks? Wow! No life what so ever.. at the end of the day these devices are first and foremost PHONES! No matter what network as long as they MAKE CALLS.. Rather it use LTE or that weak ass wimax its all good..

  113. @ron… GET LOST YOU MAGIT… Save this space for the BIG BOYS… GO KICK ROCKS SOMEPLACE.. Just because the same manufacturer made these devices does not mean that the best are reserved based on business relationships. YOU KNOW OF NOTHING OR WHO I AM FOR THAT MATTER I KNOW MORE THAN YOU WILL EVER KNOW ABOUT SPRINT/HTC/… GO GET A REAL JOB INSTEAD OF BLOG SEARCHING

  114. I have something to say sprints rules .

  115. That is , there are no plans of charging extra for 4G

  116. Wow… bunch of ignorant hicks around here. Love it!

It’s like DailyTech all over again.

  117. @Richard You can keep your HTC/Sprint relationship. HTC had more handset exchanges and warranty claims with ALL mobile carriers in 2010. I’d rather stick with a company that makes more reliable phones than HTC.

As for Verizon overcharging you may see it that way but I am glad to pay for service that actually works. In the building I work in no other carrier except for Verizon is able to get service in the building. When I am talking to my clients making money I need reliable service. I may pay more for my phone service but I can also use it.

  118. Thanks Joe…sure hope they don’t charge…and Richard…you might as well claim your wrong (s) your getting hammered with the truth over and over and over and…

  119. Can’t wait til AT&T gets LTE. So glad I didn’t settle with an HSPA+ phone.

  120. Oh my god, this shit is hilarious, I hope half you people own stock in these companies, this is like listening to the fucking View. My network is better than yours. Blah.Blah.Blah. Do any of you know what pussy is? With that being said, I am enjoying my Tbolt and some ridiculous speeds. All you fuckers cry and go cash your checks at the currency exchange because you can’t afford verizon.

  121. @kujayhawks77… Another verizon DWEEB.. man talk about coming out of the WOODWORKS you never heard of any of these people before now they get one decent phone and EVERYONE WANTS TO BE A VERIZON LAWYER OR EMPLOYEE… GO BACK IN YOUR WHOLE WHERE YOU CAME FROM and take your SHITTY IPHONE4 AND THUNDERDUD WITH YOU

  122. @MensahWatts… Don’t WORRY THEY WILL CHARGE JUST LIKE THEY DO FOR EVERYTHING ESLE STUPID DWEEB… Your monthly bill is getting HAMMERED all you FAKE ASS millionaires ON VERIZON

  123. Its amazing all have forgotten how big of a deal it was for Verizon to win the bid on 700mhz. It uses less power to penetrate into buildings. That was a huge advantage, still is. I haven’t purchased a Thunderbolt cause frankly just want to see how this all plays out. Glad to see things are finally progressing forward. My upgrade will happen when it can run CM or other roms. Until under/over clocking can be had with a Thunderbolt kernel I’m good.

  124. Richard needs an enema….

  125. And a hug…

  126. Richard, just stfu. Your an idiot.
Fred, again stfu, your an idiot.
You both are fucking annoying. Talking about stuff you are obviously clueless on. Getting butthurt. Why? Did you JUST realize your network is shit? I mean seriously. Grow the fuck up.

  127. Ohh, and how the fuck does being a cook at a soup kitchen give you the right to tell anybody to get a “real job”?

  128. @JoeVerizon:

The sprint coverage map has had 4G on it for ages, just zoom in one level from national, and click the 4G tab.
