iFixIt – just a day removed from stripping the Motorola Atrix 4G – have gotten their hands on the Samsung Galaxy S 4G. We’re not sure how interesting you’ll find this considering it’s just a Vibrant with 4G radios inside, but we bit anyway. A few highlights from iFixIt:
* We found a bummer from the get-go: a fairly noticeable gap between the glass front panel and the outer framework. It’d be less of a concern if a cell phone’s primary home is in the pocket of its user, but we like using our phones.
* A cool sliding door keeps the micro-USB port lint-free and somewhat redeems the gap between front panel and framework. You can distract your friends with its cool sliding action.
* Thankfully the rear panel is easily removed, revealing both SIM and microSD card slots, as well as a user-replaceable battery!
* The 3.7V Li-Ion battery inside the Galaxy S 4G lists a capacity of 6.11 Watt-hours, or 1650 mAh. We’re definitely seeing a trend of increased battery life among the last couple of teardowns. The question is whether that increased capacity will net any increased use time, or if all the extra juice will be sucked up by the phones’ extra processing power.
* The compact front and rear facing camera assembly has a NEC MC10170 Image Processor cleverly attached right to its ribbon cable.
We’re really waiting for teardowns of Samsung’s latest products, the Galaxy S II and Tab 10.1. It’ll be fun to see how the internals of tablets compare to one another as offerings from Motorola, LG, and others make their way to the table. Head on over to iFixIt for the full suite.
Come on XDA we need the Vibrant FFC fixed now!
What a piece of junk, I wouldn’t take a Samsung product if you tried to give it to me for free. The Atrix is a millon times better than that hunk of shit.
is the camera different than the i9000?
@Mimsy…so dont take it then go to moto for locked bootloader and at&t shitty service. I own a vibrant and am getting the S2.
I’m curious if the 1650mAH battery will work in the existing Vibrant… could be a nice lil boost
@PimpStrong: This was done months ago- http://phandroid.com/2010/10/01/do-it-yourselfer-install-a-front-facing-camera-on-your-samsung-galaxy-s-vibrant/ . Enjoy.
Good question, Steelie! It looks like the exact same phone.
Mimsy, you are a tool and a douchebag.
You can’t be a tool AND a douchebag… Oh wait, yeah you can.
I have the nexus s and vibrant rooted to froyo and I haven’t had any problems with them I had moto at first but didn’t like blur and got Samsung instead and now I am waiting for S2 to come out.
