Looking to buy a Nexus S from Best Buy? They’ve updated everyone with everything you’ll need to know about the launch to make sure there are no surprises. Here’s a nice and concise list of everything you really need to know:
That third item is especially important: you’ll be paying $50 more for the phone if you’re adding a line opposed to upgrading or opening a new account. You’ll also want to discern that online sales of the Nexus S begin at 8am Eastern, but your local brick and mortar location will be open at 8am no matter what timezone you live in as it’s their standard holiday season opening time. I’m still see-sawing about the decision to buy one personally, but if I do decide to by the time December 16th hits, I’ll be well prepared. [Best Buy via AC]
[Update]: How about some more numbers? Android & Me’s sources tells them each and every Best Buy will have Nexus S units on Thursday, but take a look at this breakdown of supposed quantities per store:
- Big box Best Buy locations that sell T-Mobile contracts in store will have on average 35 units Thursday
- Big box Best Buy locations that do not, will have on average 4 units Thursday
- Best Buy Mobile locations that sell T-Mobile will have on average 72 units Thursday
- Best Buy Mobile locations that do not, will have on average 4 units Thursday
- There will be plenty of transferring product around from Best Buy to Best Buy to even out counts as needed, but these are the numbers shipping to stores
- There will be plenty of units for orders placed online and shipped to the customer

Considering this is just a Vibrant/SGS with a forward-facing camera and Gingerbread (good chance that’s coming to the SGS), is it really worth $200 when the Vibrant can be found for $0 on sale?
The all stores having a demo device is a huge plus. Won’t buy it but definitely will check it out

Not all Best Buys will have this phone in stock as it turns out. I stopped by a few here to ask. (Just for giggles since I wouldn’t buy a Samsung anymore.) All said they would have a demo unit but none were going to have stock.

I’m hoping this is the last gift that Googs gives to T-Mo. Next time a release on every carrier at the same time would be great.
While I plan on getting one I just don’t know how they think this is going to sell out. It doesn’t seem to be hugely popular amongst some Android fans. No one I talk to on the street seems to know about it. I haven’t seen any mention of it outside of tech blogs and maybe some adword ads here and there. Not to mention I haven’t seen a single TV ad for it. And they’re actually expecting it to sell out?
Honestly thought, that’s fine by me because it means I won’t have any trouble getting it. Damn now I’ve probably jinxed myself so I’ll have to show at the doors at 8am anyways.

Oh phew I was about to go mad if I had to pay 250.
Called my local Best Buy. They will have them. I asked what his feelings were on the demand and whether or not he felt they would sell out. The associate told me that personally he hasn’t heard very many people ask about them at all and that he doesn’t expect them to sell out or be any lines for it even. The people that have inquired were only interested in coming in to check it out. He said that most of the people that come in the store have been more interested in the more popular Android devices being heavily marketed. Still gonna show up bring and early – just in case.

goofed up the GPS or something else.
If I do end up getting one it will be a used one off Craigslist in a few months when they are selling for $200 or more less than new.

tmobile may have been the first with an android phone but up until verizon started pushing it more with the og droid it was still very minimal. Tmobile isnt the reason android is so big today
They really need to do one with AT&T 3G bands like they did with the N1.
It is gonna be hard to give up my Telus Hero (on AT&T) knowing I will likely loose my $10 unlimited data.
My BB said they where getting alot of people asking for this phone so I will be in line at 8. Getting one for me and the gf and transferring our numbers from Vz. Good by Vz and my crappy moto droid glad I didnt upgrade to fascinate.
@Chris: Personally I’m dumping Verizon for T-Mobile. Verizon has some pretty decent coverage but in the little over one year they’ve been offering Android devices they’ve only had ONE stock device and that was the original Droid. Ever since then they’ve been tightening the reigns more and more with each successive Android device. Locking it down, no longer offering any new stock android experience devices, shoving theirs (and manufacturer) bloatware apps that are not removable eating up the advertised memory allotment, and shoving their own Android store down their customers throats.
Sure Verizon and the Droid line really put Android on the tongues of every Joe Consumer with their awesome marketing campaigns – there’s no denying that. But Verizon is also one of the biggest offenders in Android fragmentation.
However the Nexus line and T-Mobile have really been the ones to embrace what most people feel is the true “open” nature of Android. It’s definitely what “I” want from Android as an end-user AND developer. And if switching to T-Mobile is what it takes to get that then thats where I’m going.

thats not necessarily true. I do agree the og droid is the only vanilla android phone they have but motorola is the only one locking down the reigns the HTC and samsung phones they offer are not locked down. And for all of the crap they stick on i do agree it should be removable but it can easily be removed by rooting which in these days is so easy especially with all of the 1 click methods although i know someone will say you shouldnt have to root but personally for me i would rather have to root and know im going to have service rather then having a stock android phone
@Chris: I’ve heard mixed things about T-Mobile but mostly all good stuff. I’d say 1/10 were bad and mostly related to customer service not network availability. I’ve been on every other major carrier in the US over the last 10 years except T-Mobile. I’ll give Verizon one thing, I never had a dropped call in 3 years (can’t say the same for AT&T and that was even before the iPhone came out) for any reason other than being in a location with poor coverage or too deep into a building. If T-Mobile sucks in my area I’m not too proud to switch back. But Verizon needs to being such control freaks – they’re the Apple of carriers. I also have issues with CDMA technology.
Every Samsung vibrant owners should get this phone and forget about the vibrant. The US galaxy s phones won’t even see froyo till 2011.

It would be awesome with dual-core, microsd slot, all 3G bands to include AT&T.. if it had those things I would be all over it on day 1..
This one just doesn’t seem like a big leap ahead like the N1 was.. The thing I car about it having over the current Galaxy S phones is the newest updates from Google whenever they are released..
Went from the nexus 1 to the my touch 4g.
Owned 2 nexus ones had constant issues with both. Touch screen blow ass.
My touch 4 g blows the nexus out of the water.
Htc sense isn’t for everyone but I think it has a lot of cool features you can’t get with vanilla android.
Also we myetouch 4 g users already have the new cut copy and paste and it rocks
Not sure if I’ll ever buy a Nexus again. I’ll probably just wait for good reviews before buying one.

I really hope Best Buy gets their stuff together. I called their “dedicated” Nexus S hotline from the splash page on bestbuy.com and they told me that not all store would have them in stock. I told the guy about the press release and he said all he could tell me was to call my local Best Buy Thursday morning and see if they had any in stock. Pretty crappy customer service if you ask me
oh and as far as the Nexus S goes, yes, I was a little underwhelmed. Was hoping for something dual-core and HSPA+ (could care less about the lack of sd slot, have yet to fill up my 4gig in my N1 and don’t have any other place to access a microSD card than in my phone so never had a reason to take out) but in the end you have to look at it this way: There is always going to be the next big thing right on the horizon. Get what phone you want and be happy with it until it’s time to upgrade. I’m getting the Nexus S for my wife and then at the end of next year I’ll replace my N1.
I called the dedicated Nexus S phone line that Best Buy is offering also. The guy knew nothing. He didn’t even use the proper buzz words, much less the proper terminology when referring to phone features. He sounded like he was buzzed.
That aside, I still think that this phone is great and the only reason people are complaining was because of the over inflated rumors. I hope the phone flops then goes on a free phone sale so that I can pick it up :)
@Aja I completely agree with your comment about there always being the next big thing just on the horizon. If you see something you like, get it. Do NOT let “but next month phone x comes out” be your reason for not making a purchase, because you will ALWAYS be able to say it (at least for the foreseeable future).
The “Nexus” branding on this Galaxy S phone is not enough to buy me over. I feel that Google released the phone early to have the Nexus name out to the general public. You all remember what happened with the Nexus One..no real marketing which made it a commercial flop. More of a marketing gimmick to co-inside with the Android 2.3 release in my opinion.
The UK pricing is so fucking ridiculous. It’s £550 unlocked in the UK, and £1 = $1.6.
I’m going to have to use a freight forwarding service and buy it through the US. Will save around £150.
If the Epic 4g gets Gingerbread I am not really sure why anyone would want the Nexus S.
Nexus S is the finest phone ever created. There is absolutely not a single valid criticism of Nexus S. You need Nexus S. You do not need anything besides Nexus S.

Let’s see, 1. Ugly black cheap creaky plastic. 2. No HSPA+ radio, so forget TMobile pseudo 4G speeds. Call is fast 3G or 4G, it’s still faster than HSPA. 3. No Micro SD slot for expansion. Micro SD’s are now 32 gigs if you want one. Hell, iPhone makes a 32 Gig phone. Duh! 4. Barely adequate internal 16 gig memory…closed, not expandable..this from the the people who created the “open” android system. Is Steve Jobs consulting for Google now? 5. a Samsung! YUCK! 6. No dual-core processor. 7. No 720p video recording capability. 8. Best Buy? They suck ass. Yeah, Snupples is right, this must be the finest phone ever created…by Samsung, that is. LOL.
