Google bought a UK startup that can turn displays into speakers

0

A massive company like Google is constantly acquiring smaller companies and startups. Most of the time we don’t even hear about these acquisitions., but every once in a while an interesting acquisition will pop up on the radar. Google recently made such an acquisition involving a UK startup with technology that can turn displays into speakers.

The startup is named Redux. They developed technology that eliminates the need for a mobile device to have small speakers. This is a big deal because it frees up space for more components, such as bigger batteries. Their now-defunct website is pretty cryptic about how the technology actually works, but obviously, Google is impressed.

Google hasn’t shared any details about the acquisition. There’s a wide range of products that could benefit from this technology. Pixel phones are the obvious choice, but it could also benefit a future Google-branded Home device with a display. The folks at Redux will be a valuable addition to Google’s team.
