Verizon hates unlimited data plans. They’ve made that very clear in their refusal to offer them again even after all three of its major competitors offer some form of unlimited data service.
Verizon’s CFO Fran Shammo said a few weeks back that the company’s plans are already great and there’s no need to offer unlimited data to customers who “tend to be abusive” with it. In fact, Verizon has tried its hardest to get people to drop their grandfathered unlimited plans by initiating several price hikes to that tier of service.
Shammo said that his company is always evaluating the market and Verizon watches its competitors closely so the company will “respond when needed.” Consider PopData Verizon’s response to offering unlimited data without actually offering it over an extended period of time.
The new service is a pay-as-you-go add-on to your bill that you can activate for a limited amount of time, based on how much you want to pay. It’s activated in the My Verizon app and $2 will get you 30 minutes of unlimited streaming, while $3 will get you 60 minutes of unlimited.
This is obviously aimed at people who commute or will be stuck in certain locations for a period of time and need access to unlimited data. Instead of paying monthly for the privilege of unlimited data, you’ll need to decide when you want to dip into your pockets for a thirty minutes to an hour. What do you think?
