It was only yesterday Japanese carrier KDDI officially announced the LG Isai FL. Carrying a 5.5-inch QHD display, ever since we first caught glimpse of the Isai a few weeks back we figured we were merely looking at a Japanese branded LG G3.
At the time, the LG Isai FL carried many of the same rumored specs as the LG G3, leading us (and many others) to believe the phone may have offer a sneak peek at what LG has in store for the upcoming LG G3 — namely, its incredibly small upper bezel area. Despite last year’s model being practically a mirror image of the G2 (see below image), it appears that may not be the case this year.
Last year’s LG Isai compared to the LG G2
In a statement to ZDNet Korea, LG is attempting to distance the 2 phones from each other, claiming that they are completely separate products and that the LG Isai doesn’t offer much of a hint of the LG G3’s design. LG further maintained that the phone was built and designed for the Japanese market, suggesting the LG G3’s design will look more like previous models in North America/South Korea.
This could explain why, in previous leaks (like the case leak here), the LG G3 wasn’t carrying the same super slim bezels. We’re not sure how many of you were banking on a nearly bezel-less design like the LG Isai FL, but if last year’s LG G2 is any indication, we should still be expecting some of the slimmest bezels on the market.

Either way, the G3 is going to be the shiznit.
Toss up between that, the Moto X+1, or the Sony Xperia Z2.
G3’s 2K display is actually a downside to me.
Sony sucks with Android updates which could have me regretting my purchase later on.
Moto X+1 is still pretty much a mystery at this point (but I have a feeling they might skimp on some spec to keep costs low).
I’m sticking with my HTC One M8, it’s just a beast. I thought about getting the G3 because I loved my G2, however I had currently been using a Moto X and I got tired of it and just couldn’t wait.
I couldn’t be happier the my HTC One.
I actually hope it DOES look like this !
Same.
Looks good. Its unique! Always good to see and OEM trying something new.
Japan always gets the good bezels :(
Rectanglish with rounded edges, flat screen and flat back. They all look fairly the same.
The G3 is going to look much the same as the Isai.
Once you get to all screen like that, you really have no design left to put into phones. Everyone would have screen and the only different would be the interface. Then people would want to know “How does your screen look?” and they will see all the awesome Android homescreens.
LoL!!
Maybe it’s a mirror of the upcoming NEXUS 6 “Flounder” phone?
Not sold on the Oneplus One, Señor Chavez?
I think it looks great, price is right too. Just far too big (tall) for my tastes. Right now, I base all my phones on how well I can wield them with 1-hand. LG G2 is the perfect sized phone for me.
Chris, can we get an article on companies that provide insurance for these new phones? My next purchase will be my first full priced phone with no contract and idk what to do about insurance. Forgive (and link) me if you’ve already written one.
Squaretrade is probably your best bet man.
Thanks, that looks like a good option.
Yeah, too tall for me as well. I was really hoping their engineers “found a way to fit a 5.5″ screen in the body of a 5″ phone”. Looks like the G3 engineers stole their idea ;-)
The G3 side bezels are just as thin but the top bezel is bigger. I like the G3 shape better based off the gold leak.
I think the reason why the bezel is so thin at the top is that the FFC is at the bottom. Also, I prefer the power/lock on the side instead of the back.

They moved everything to the bottom cept for the speaker. I don’t hate it though, looks kinda cool.
dat Bezel though
The Isai design appeals to me more than the G3.
But it seems a bit thick and too large.
Nexus 5’s size is the best size to me for now.
or anything below it…
If they announce on May 27, wonder when it’ll be avail for order…I can’t wait to get my hands on G3.
