HTC One sequel (HTC M8, One+, One 2?) to be officially unveiled March 25th

24

HTC is officially sending out press invites for a March 25th event — simultaneously taking place in both London and New York City — where they promise we’ll be seeing their flagship for the year ahead. We expect that phone to be the HTC M8 we’ve been hearing so much about, which is the direct sequel to the HTC One of yesteryear.

While we still don’t have a solid clue on what they’ll call this thing just yet, we do have a better idea of what to expect after a barrage of leaks. For starters, we know it’ll closely resemble the original HTC One, though users can expect a couple of key changes.

There’s an extra camera on the back, which rumors suggest will be used to facilitate some post-snap focusing features. Also noteworthy is the absence of physical navigation buttons, as HTC has seemingly settled on virtual buttons. Spec rumors have been a bit all over the place, though the latest say we should be seeing the following:

  • 5-inch 1080p HD display
  • Snapdragon 800 processor (more specifically, the MSM8974)
  • 2GB of RAM
  • UltraPixel camera on the rear
  • 2.1 megapixel camera on the front
  • WiFi ac
  • KitKat with Sense 6.0

It’s worth noting earlier rumors had the display anywhere between 5 and 5.2 inches, while we’ve also heard murmurings of 3GB of RAM instead of the typical 2GB. Whatever it turns out to be, though, we’ll be front and center come March 25th to take it all in. Be sure to circle the dates on your calendar!

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Am I the only one not excited about this phone anymore after seeing all the leaks that show the inclusion of the stupid black bar with the HTC logo?

    1. Nope you’re not alone…..that feature is a deal-breaker for me. That extra bezel is butt-ugly and seemingly useless for anything other than shoving a company logo on.
Looks cheap. Much prefer no logo at all too – save it for the back like apple does.

      1. And you’re gonna feel silly when you find out the one with all the bezels is actually the M8 mini and not the flagship.

        1. I hope that’s true! :D

    2. I have to agree I owned the one when it first came out , loved it , and I’ve been waiting for something really killer this year from HTC , I don’t know I guess I’m on the fence we’ll see when it actually is revealed , but if it is like it’s posted above think i’ll pass…………..time will tell

  2. to be honest this phone will probably be interesting, but by march 25th, i would already have an S5

    1. Your loss.

      1. Not his loss if he enjoys it.

    2. Not 100% certain that Samsung would release the S5 within the 30 days between the announcement & the announcement of the M8.

However, if Samsung wanted to be funny, they’d release it the exact day the M8 is announced.

      1. Why? Samsung’s competition is not HTC. It’s Apple. This is like their baby bro getting ready for their big game. Kinda important in a way, but not really.

        1. I’m very well aware of that. However, the S4 and S2 were released over a month after being announced while the S3 was released to European countries a few weeks after announcement and then to the US over a month later.

So, release of the S5 could theoretically occur the same time of the M8 announcement based on past trends. But, I never said they should release it on that date to target the M8, rather, to just kill some of the buzz of the M8 announcement.

    3. Yea… I’m worried about that too. The LG G Pro 2 is looking mighty nice.

  3. Seriously thought they’d do it at MWC. It’s cool though. Maybe they used strategic leaks as a soak test of sorts and are going to fix everything people reacted negetivly about.

  4. March 25th is a pretty lengthy time frame for an unveiling… I mean we’re heading into the later part of Feb. now but I was hoping to see something official by next week. Unless they unveil it and then release it within that week or next week from that date.

  5. I hope there is 3GB of RAM, but sense is very fast anyways…

    1. I hope it’s 3GB of RAM not because of Sense (which is now super light), but for all the crazy apps I install that need to be running. For instance, spy cam, social thingy, lockscreen, etc…

  6. guys, i think this is the closest thing to a final M8. found the image originally on hk android site but for some reason can’t post the url here. notice how there’s no useless bezel with that htc logo.

    1. That’s Better………

    2. I’m thinking “no”… HTC has their name stamped on the front of 99.99% of the phones they make — and you’re suggesting that with their latest and greatest flagship they would suddenly leave the “HTC” off?

      1. more of wishful thinking on my part than a suggestion

        1. Yeah, I hear you… it would be nice to gain that real estate back or making the device ‘shorter’ without making the screen smaller.

          1. One logo on the back is sufficient. I wish HTC would see this.. They’re using their signature Boomsound look on the front, that should be a big enough indication that you’re holding a htc product. If anything I would wish they would paint a logo on the bottom right corner next to the speaker grill…

          2. I don’t know that the look has caught on enough yet. I mean, phone enthusiasts can see the differences in the picture below but the ‘average joe’ on the street doesn’t look that hard… and a ‘black slab’ is a ‘black slab’.

  7. This phone is going to be destroyed by the S5, HTC are dead in the water.
