Good news! Galaxy AI will be coming to the Samsung Galaxy S22

When Samsung introduced Galaxy AI in its Galaxy S24 series, some were wondering what this could mean for older devices. Would these older handsets be eligible for the Galaxy AI update as well? Samsung later rolled out One UI 6.1 for the Galaxy S23 series which introduced Galaxy AI, but now it looks like the Galaxy S22 series will get it as well.

Last month, Samsung MX CEO TM Roh hinted that the company was looking at the possibility of bringing Galaxy AI to older handsets. It turns out Roh was serious about that as Samsung has officially announced it.

According to the announcement, Samsung will be bringing Galaxy AI to the Galaxy S22 series. It won’t just be Galaxy S22 devices, though. Samsung also revealed that older handsets like the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 will be eligible, along with the Galaxy Tab S8 series.

Samsung says that the rollout of One UI 6.1 for these devices will take place early May. No specific dates were mentioned, so we’ll just have to wait and see. One of the concerns Samsung had with regards to AI on older devices are hardware limitations. Roh suggested some kind of hybrid model that could use cloud-based computing for some functions.
