Entry-level Samsung phones could be getting a massive display upgrade in 2024

When companies make entry-level phones, it is obvious that certain sacrifices and compromises need to be made in order to allow the phone to hit its price point. This includes using slower chipsets, maybe using less powerful camera sensors, using less RAM, using older and slower memory chips, and so on.

Another area that entry-level devices compromise on would be its display, where many budget handsets tend to still rely on LCD. There’s nothing wrong with LCD, but obviously in terms of colors and saturation, it’s hard to beat OLED displays, but that will change in 2024 with Samsung’s entry-level Galaxy A-series of smartphones.

This is according to a report from Korean publication The Elec who claims that in 2024, Samsung is expected to start equipping some of its entry-level Galaxy A smartphones with OLED displays. This is expected to cover both the Galaxy A1X phones and also the Galaxy A2X series of phones, so if you are thinking of picking up a new and cheap smartphone next year, then the new models in these lineups could be worth waiting for.

One of the reasons for this switch is apparently due to the prices of rigid OLED panels dropping, meaning that it is now more cost-effective to use them in lower-priced phones. In addition to offering better colors, OLED displays also have the advantage of being more energy efficient and could also sport higher refresh rates.
