Pixel 8a Find My Device works even if your battery is dead

0

Google recently launched the Pixel 8a. This is the company’s latest entry in their Pixel A-series of phones. For the most part, it is quite similar to the Pixel 8 and in more ways than one. It turns out that the Pixel 8a has a similar Find My Device feature as the Pixel 8, according to a report from Android Authority.

For those unfamiliar, Google rolled out its Find My Device network recently. But one of the differences between the Pixel 8 and other Android handsets is that Find My Device works even when the phone is powered off. This is due to the use of specialized hardware. The Bluetooth chip still works even if the phone is off or its battery is dead.

It turns out that this feature has made its way to the Pixel 8a as well. While we can only hope that most of you won’t lose your phone or have it stolen. However, if you do it’s comforting to know that in the event it’s turned off or its battery runs dry, you can still locate it using Google’s Find My Device network.

Google did confirm that the powered off Find My Device feature isn’t exclusive to the Pixel 8. It’s just the fact that most of today’s handsets do not have the specialized hardware for it. Hopefully more handset makers can see the potential in this and will include the tech for it in future products.
