Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5: More durable than ever

0

There’s a lot to like about foldable phones. The ability to become smaller when folded up and become a tablet when unfolded means that potentially we might have one less device to bring around. It also opens the door to all kinds of possibilities on the things we can do while on the go.

The main problem though, is durability. With the phone featuring a hinge, it means that it now has another mechanical part that might break, but that seems to be something Samsung has addressed with its latest foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

The Fold 5 is the latest in the Fold series of foldable phones from Samsung, and while on the outside it might not look too different from its predecessor, Samsung has made some improvements to its design to make it more durable. This comes in the form of a new Flex Hinge that boasts a dual rail system. Samsung claims that this design can better diffuse external impacts, making the phone more durable.

Samsung has also equipped the phone with Armor Aluminum frames and has also used Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2 that protects both the front and back of the phone, and has also introduced IPX8 support when it comes to water-resistance.

As for the display itself, the inner foldable display measures at 7.6-inches when fully open and has a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, while its external display is 6.2-inches, also boasting a 120Hz refresh rate.

To take advantage of this larger display, as expected, there is support for Samsung’s S Pen stylus along with Multi Window and App Continuity that makes the phone feel like a mini computer. Users can do things like dragging and dropping files, there’s also a taskbar, and the support for the S Pen will let users take notes and make drawings while on the go.

Powering the phone will be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with 12GB of RAM and 256GB-1TB of storage options. It also boasts a 4,400mAh battery and a triple camera setup on the back consisting of a 12MP ultra wide, a 50MP wide, and a 10MP telephoto. There will also be a camera on the front which is 10MP, and an under-display camera of the 4MP variety.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be priced starting at $1,799.99 and is available for pre-order from Samsung’s website today. The handset is expected to be released on the 11th of August.
